Amid state-sanctioned homophobia and cultural taboos, this study examines the motivations behind the continuous use of social media among LGBTQ+ individuals in West Africa. Grounded in Queer Theory and Social Identity Theory (SIT), it employs a qualitative research design to explore how digital platforms function as tools for identity development, self-expression, and community formation. Incalculable Harm: Analyzing The Impact Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Immigration Detention In Canada, Efrat Arbel, Molly Joeck

This paper reflects on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on immigration detention in Canada. Drawing on research spanning 2020 to 2022, we analyze how the pandemic impacted rates of detention, conditions of detention, and other related issues. Data released by the Canada Border Services Agency shows that despite an initial decrease in absolute numbers, Canada detained people at a higher rate after the onset of the pandemic than it did prior. Canada also held people for longer periods of time and relied more heavily on jails than dedicated Immigration Holding Centres. Conditions of confinement deteriorated significantly across all detention …

For more than a decade, migrant childhood arrivals have been identified as “dreamers” due to immigration policy initiatives such as the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). While navigating various identities, including U.S. immigrant, their native nationality, and being socialized simultaneously within their native and American cultures, they must also reckon with what their future identities will be thanks to politics around “undocumentedness.” This is especially true for undocumented Latines in the United States. Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Neutrosophic set theory plays an important role in dealing with the impreciseness and inconsistency in data encountered in solving real life problems. This paper presents a novel approach to solving a new class of continuous static games within a neutrosophic framework. In the proposed methodology, the neutrosophic continuous static games are redefined into two separate crisp problems: the lower problem and the upper problem. The study further establishes the necessary conditions for determining equilibrium strategies in neutrosophic continuous static games. To demonstrate its effectiveness and practical applicability, the proposed method is validated through a numerical example.

Journalists and commentators have dismissed acronym-titled laws like the SAFE Act (Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement Act) and slogan-based political action committee (“PAC”) names like Americans for America as window dressing concocted by uncreative political operatives. Beyond the fact that law titles and PAC names have become punching bags in the press, they share another quality: they both appear with frequency in political ads about ballot initiatives and sometimes appear on ballots themselves. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate how graphic medicine could be a useful tool for communicating medical discharge instructions to populations with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). When higher education institutions rely on a single office to provide primarily in-class accommodations for students with diagnosed disabilities, practitioners beyond this office receive little guidance on supporting the broader disabled community in daily practices. Solitary confinement is widespread and recognized as harmful in society. However, it is not as researched as other controversial issues, including immigration, gun control, abortion, etc. Due to this, it is hard to gauge how supportive the public is or isn't of related practices. In a general sense, public support has been established by legislators crafting policy, and by extension United States Supreme Court decision making. This study aimed to address the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner’s unfamiliarity and inadequate confidence in utilizing the CAGE-AID screening tool in detecting opioid use in adolescents undergoing treatment at a psychiatric mental health clinic. The goal was to find out how structured training affected providers' understanding of and confidence in using the screening tool. Eight psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, participated in a quasi-experimental pre- and post-intervention design. Descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and Cronbach's alpha reliability analysis were used to look at the data. Industrial wastewater from sectors such as textiles, printing, and pharmaceuticals contains harmful pollutants, including nonbiodegradable dyes, which pose significant challenges for environmental safety. Neutral red, a cationic dye commonly found in wastewater, obstructs photosynthesis in aquatic ecosystems and carries potential toxicity. Traditional methods of dye removal often prove ineffective due to the chemical stability of these compounds. In this study, oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride (O-doped g-C3N4) was synthesized as an innovative photocatalyst for the degradation of neutral red dye under visible light. The Clean Water Act (“CWA”) has been one of the most powerful tools for protecting the nation’s waterways since it was first passed in 1972. However, there has long been ambiguity over the scope of the authority it grants for the regulation of wetlands. In May 2023, the Supreme Court resolved this question in Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency. The effect of Sackett will be to remove significant amounts of previously regulated wetlands from federal jurisdiction. The American public has become deeply distrustful of elections. This distrust is partly due to Supreme Court decisions curtailing campaign finance restrictions, on First Amendment grounds, to spending that creates an appearance of quid pro quo corruption. The Court’s reasoning assumes that, although the government has an interest in protecting the public’s trust in elections, campaign spending does not pose a threat to the public’s trust absent the appearance of quid pro quo corruption. Independent Living and Community Participation

The Just Home project in Missoula County, Montana, is a collaborative initiative supported by the MacArthur Foundation to address the intersection of housing instability and justice system involvement. Led by Homeword, Inc. and the Missoula County Community Justice Department, the project seeks to develop sustainable, community-driven solutions that reduce incarceration and improve housing outcomes for vulnerable populations. To inform this work, the University of Montana’s Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities conducted a comprehensive community needs assessment using mixed methods, including administrative data analysis, qualitative interviews with service providers, and community engagement with unhoused and justice-involved individuals.
