Massachusetts is experiencing a critical shortage of affordable housing, driven by decades of underbuilding, which is exacerbated by local opposition to multifamily housing development. Although the Commonwealth has adopted policies to increase housing supply, such as Chapter 40B and the MBTA Communities Act, the impact of these efforts is mitigated by resistance from residents at the local level. This research analyzes whether common concerns voiced by opponents of multifamily, affordable housing, such as adverse impacts on school enrollment, property values, municipal services, and infrastructure, are substantiated by data. Studies of students with dyslexia have focused on reading and cognitive skills development and their relationship to academic outcomes. Yet, non-cognitive skills, such as resilience or grit, have been shown to positively contribute to life satisfaction, mental health, and academic success (e.g., Aro et al., 2023; Casali et al., 2023; Hossain et al., 2021; Kortteinen et al., 2020). However, this literature is small and inconclusive, with inconsistent definitions and measures of grit and resilience. We present the first multimodal, multitask benchmark for NCAA basketball, synthesizing structured statistical features with large language model (LLM)-generated game summaries across 19,739 games spanning four NCAA Division I seasons (2021--2025). We evaluate three model families---XGBoost, deep neural networks, and Transformers---under tabular-only and early-fusion settings to measure the impact of LLM-derived textual embeddings. To assess practical utility, we simulate fixed-stake and Kelly criterion-based betting strategies using historical bookmaker odds, analyzing both profitability and downside risk via Monte Carlo simulation. Background: The mechanisms linking early-life adversity with psychopathology over the life-course are complex. In this prospective study, we collectively examined cognitive, affective, and developmental mediators previously found to individually link childhood threat and deprivation experiences to adolescent psychopathology to identify the most potent mechanisms. Methods: Data came from a community sample of 227 children (mean child age 11.5 ± 0.5 years, 48.5% female) from the Seattle metro area with recruitment designed to reflect diversity in family income. In this thesis I examined how the 2010 children’s television show Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated both utilizes and critiques conspiracy, embedded within its mystery-solving structure. Through a close analysis of the members of the gang—Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo—I broke down their individual behaviors, interactions, and contributions to conspiratorial belief. I then transitioned into a case study of the episode “Where Stalks the Scarebear,” showcasing its connection to larger real-world conspiracy narratives, particularly those related to corporate and environmental cover-ups. This qualitative study at the Monterey County Public Defender’s Office explored client experiences within the mental health diversion program. The research was prompted by a noticeable discrepancy of high case dismissal rates that appeared to be linked to declining client engagement rather than successful program completion. Twelve clients were interviewed and categorized into two groups: active participants and program graduates. Additionally, two lead attorneys overseeing diversion cases were interviewed to provide further insight into the program’s impact and potential strategies to strengthen client engagement. This project addresses the impact of toxic masculinity, and a lack of education on young men’s ability to form healthy romantic partnerships. Grounded in Erikson’s psychosocial theory, particularly the stage of Intimacy vs. Isolation, a one-day interactive workshop was developed and delivered to members of a multicultural fraternity, Nu Alpha Kappa, at California State University, Monterey Bay. This project analyzes the procedural history of Fourth Amendment doctrine in the Supreme Court. This timeline begins with the 1928 case of Olmstead v. United States and proceeds with recent cases that resolve more modern concerns such as location tracking via cell-cite information, as seen in Carpenter v. United States (2018). Prevalent cases are analyzed through both majority and dissenting opinions to demonstrate the entire Courts’ attitude towards the interpretation. Introduction: Opioid drugs (e.g., morphine) are used medicinally for pain relief but can also lead to opioid use disorder (OUD). These medications are prescribed at a higher rate among individuals with obesity (who might consume high fat diets) than the general population. Further, previous work from our lab and others has demonstrated that eating a high fat diet enhances sensitivity of rats to other addictive substances, including stimulants. However, it is not known if dietary manipulations impact individual sensitivity to the effects of opioids. Novolac phenolic resin (NPR) is a widely used polymeric ablative material (PAM) for thermal protection systems (TPS) due to its high thermal decomposition temperature (TD, 500â?¯Â°C) and char yield (YC, 55â?¯wt%). However, its drawbacks (including high thermal conductivity, low mechanical properties and water uptake) prompt the need for improved PAMs. This study explores the pyrolysis behavior and char-forming capabilities of NPR and a potential alternative PAM, poly(1,6-dimethyl phenol) (PPO), through both theoretical and experimental approaches. This qualitative study shares the lived experiences of a Latina superintendent leading a large school district along the U.S.-Mexico border, with the aim of highlighting the systemic barriers and enabling factors that shape Latina leadership trajectories in historically underrepresented contexts. Grounded in Latino/a Critical Race Theory (LatCrit) and employing a narrative inquiry through Testimonio methodology, a semi-structured, in-depth interview was conducted and transcribed verbatim. Data were analyzed using Saldana's (2015) two-cycle coding approach - narrative coding followed by pattern coding - to distill rich, counter-storytelling insights into the superintendent's journey. Connecticut has a long history of climate action. In this study, I looked into the effect that non-governmental organizations have on the passage of climate change legislation in Connecticut. Eighteen different climate policy stakeholders, including legislatures, non-governmental organization (NGO) staff members, youth activists and state employees were interviewed to gain their perspective on how non-profits forward climate initiatives. I found that non-profit organizations do have a significant impact on the passage of climate change legislation in Connecticut by working as providers of information to legislators and mobilizers of constituents. This impact can be limited by various political factors.

This paper investigates whether children in Indian households receiving more remittances have better educational outcomes. India is the world’s largest recipient of remittances and is characterized by a unique socioeco- nomic and demographic context that makes any educational improvements or disparities particularly impactful on global education metrics. Using panel data from the India Human Development Survey, I employ OLS and logit regressions with household fixed effects, a difference-in-differences strategy, and a Heckman selection model. In literature their relationship illustrates and complicates what it means to be ‘woman’ and provides access to educational theories, political understanding, and familial ideologies. Further, examining how these relationships shift and alter through eras of narratives offers tangible patterns for study. It is not uncommon to encounter rare features in settings where data is quantified through one-hot encoding, such as text mining data or genomic data.
