Directed by the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Right (TRIPS) of 1995 is the most comprehensive international policy on the creation, protection, definition, and transfer of International Property Rights (IPR). This policy was particularly damaging for underdeveloped countries when it came to the trade and importation of name-brand drugs, as TRIPS inherently expedited the unethical process of evergreening drug patents. This study examines how specific language, mainly terms such as "serial killer," impacts sentencing severity. By analyzing cases involving serial killers and the terminology used, there is a proven correlation between terminology and sentencing. For example, Ted Bundy (30 confirmed murders) and Jeffrey Dahmer (17 confirmed murders) were both investigated by Robert Ressler—who pioneered FBI profiling and coined the term "serial killer." This thesis addresses a key bottleneck in hallucination research: the scarcity and limitations of hallucination benchmark datasets. Existing datasets typically focus on a single type of hallucination and are expensive to produce due to the need for manual prompt creation and annotation. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel mixture-of-experts (MoE) adversarial framework that actively induces hallucinations. Our framework employs three large language model (LLM) agents that iteratively and adversarially revise prompts to provoke hallucinated responses from a target question-answering model. It automates the generation of both intrinsic hallucinations (logical inconsistencies) and extrinsic hallucinations (inclusion of unverifiable external information). …

This paper defends comparisons between pragmatist and phenomenological philosophies of science by comparing Dewey and Merleau-Ponty’s philosophies of science or scientific method. Merleau-Ponty might be said to “answer the phenomenological tradition’s criticism of naturalism” from within the Husserlian phenomenological tradition itself, revindicating the consensus between pragmatism and phenomenology set forth by Rosenthal and Bourgeois. In the absence of an argument that “methodological inconsistency” amounts to methodological illegitimacy, phenomenology ought not reject pragmatist philosophies of science because the Husserlian phenomenological tradition espouses a relative naturalism not unlike pragmatist naturalism. More importantly, this consensus with pragmatism sustains phenomenology’s own critique of scientism.

KRAS is a pivotal oncoprotein that regulates cell proliferation and survival through interactions with downstream effectors such as RAF1. Despite significant advances in understanding KRAS biology, the structural and dynamic mechanisms of KRAS allostery remain poorly understood. In this study, we employ microsecond molecular dynamics simulations, mutational scanning, and binding free energy calculations together with dynamic network modeling to dissect how engineered DARPin proteins K27, K55, K13, and K19 engage KRAS through diverse molecular mechanisms ranging from effector mimicry to conformational restriction and allosteric modulation. The first chapter proposes a conceptualization of love as a subject-to-subject relation, through sustained engagement with the work of Alain Badiou. Specifically, the nature of the love relation as an intersubjective construction is articulated through a critique and reworking of Badiou’s conceptualization of love as an evental phenomenon. A Pre–Post Study Evaluating An Online Cbt-Based Intervention To Improve Academic Performance In Students With Low Mood, Suheir Awadalla, E. Bethan Davies, Cris Glazebrook

Online cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)-based interventions have shown the potential to improve the mental health of university students. However, their impact on West Asian cultures and educational achievement has yet to be fully investigated. This study explores the feasibility, acceptability, and potential effectiveness of a self-directed, internet-delivered, cognitive–behavioural skills training programme (MoodGYM) in reducing depression and improving academic performance among university students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This exploratory pre- and postintervention study with a historical control group recruited 50 students, having a GPA <2 and self-reporting at least one of two key depressive symptoms, from one UAE university. The results demonstrated that the total Hospital Depression and Anxiety Scale (HADS) depression score (HADS-D) decreased after the intervention (P = 0.004), and the proportion of participants scoring above the cutoff for depression (HADS-D ≥8) decreased from 77.2 to 27.3% (p < 0.001). There was also a significant reduction in HADS-anxiety scores (p < 0.001), and the proportion of participants above the cut-off for anxiety (HADS-A ≥8) decreased from 50% to 11.4% (p = 0.001). GPA improved significantly over time (p < 0.001, d = 1.3), and attendance warnings decreased (p = 0.008, d = 0.6). Most students (79.6%) evaluated MoodGYM as useful, and all students completed at least two MoodGYM modules. This study shows that MoodGYM, a web-based mental health promotion intervention, improves academic achievement in university students with depressive symptoms. Further research is needed to explore how MoodGYM can be best implemented within university settings.

This qualitative review used a convergent-parallel design to explore the perspectives of prison administrators and nonprofit reentry program providers regarding inmate rehabilitation iii and reentry services. In 2021, 76,000 inmates were pardoned due to changes in California legislation (Fritz, 2024, p. 1 ). This study aims to identify couple typologies regarding gender ideologies and marital power, and investigate how couple typologies relate to sociodemographic characteristics as well as rates of physical intimate partner violence (IPV). Several theoretical approaches connect marital power and gender ideologies to IPV but emphasize different couple typologies. This thesis investigates how religious women in mathematics construct and navigate their identities within the intersecting figured worlds of gender, religion, and mathematics. Drawing on Holland et al.’s (1998) theory of figured worlds and informed by identity theory, this study examines how these women experience, negotiate, and position their identities within these figured worlds. Through interviews with women who are simultaneously committed to religious life and mathematical scholarship, the research reveals that rather than perceiving conflict between these domains, participants often find points of integration and mutual reinforcement. Background: The Dictyostelium greenbeard pathway is mediated by two polymorphic transmembrane proteins, the TgrC1 ligand and the TgrB1 receptor. These proteins mediate allorecognition, altruism, and the developmental transition to multicellularity. A genetic suppressor screen revealed activating mutations in tgrB1 and inactivating mutations in rapgapB, a regulator of the GTPase protein RapA. Inactivation of either tgrB1, tgrC1, or rapgapB leads to developmental defects, but the respective double-mutant strains rapgapB-tgrB1- and rapgapB-tgrC1- develop well and produce spores. This mutual suppression could result from inducing an alternative pathway or from restoring wild-type development, but morphological analyses alone could not resolve this question.

Metastasis is the main cause of cancer-related deaths, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, using clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), a tumor type with frequent lung metastases, we conduct an in vivo genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screen and identify HLF as a potent suppressor of lung metastasis. HLF depletion enhances ccRCC cell migration and lung metastasis, whereas HLF overexpression abrogates these effects. In ccRCC patients, HLF expression is reduced at metastatic sites and associates with epigenetic silencing mediated by the SWI/SNF ATPase subunit BRG1. HLF levels negatively correlate with migration potential in collagen. Mechanistically, HLF regulates LPXN expression, modulating the …

Research has increasingly recognized that empathy difficulties between autistic and neurotypical individuals are mutual. As empathy depends on shared understanding, identifying common ground between autistic and neurotypical children is important to foster greater empathy. This study examined reactivity patterns in autistic and neurotypical children to explore how similarities in reactivity might promote empathy across neurodiverse groups. Using a quantitative, survey-based design, parents of 56 children (19 autistic, 37 neurotypical; ages 5-11) completed a novel measure developed for this study, the Reactivity to Scenarios of Differing Intensity (RSDI), which measures children's reactivity to various social and environmental scenarios of differing intensity. …

Millions of people worldwide flee violent persecution each year, with more than 6.8 million estimated to have sought asylum in 2023 alone (United Nations High Commission on Refugees, 2025). Up to 40% of refugees and asylum-seekers are reported to be survivors of torture, with sexual torture one of the most commonly-reported means of torture, particularly among women and LGBTQ+ populations (Abu Suhaiban, 2019; Hopkinson et al., 2017; United Nations High Commission on Refugees, 2017).
