Pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs), particularly diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs), are among the most lethal brain tumors due to poor survival and resistance to therapies. DMGs possess a distinct genetic profile, primarily driven by hallmark mutations such as H3K27M, ACVR1, and PDGFRA mutations/amplifications and TP53 inactivation, all of which contribute to tumor biology and therapeutic resistance. Developing physiologically relevant preclinical models that replicate both tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment (TME) is critical for advancing effective treatments. ACTA2 pathogenic variants altering arginine 179 cause childhood-onset strokes due to moyamoya disease (MMD)-like occlusions of the distal internal carotid arteries, but the mechanisms of pathogenesis are unknown and no preventive treatments exist. Here we show that Acta2R179C/+ smooth muscle cells (SMCs) fail to fully differentiate and maintain stem cell-like features, including increased migration and glycolytic flux compared to wildtype (WT) SMCs. Increasing mitochondrial respiration with nicotinamide riboside (NR) drives differentiation and decreases migration of Acta2R179C/+ SMCs. The reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals into society has garnered increasing attention largely due to structural and social barriers that impede their successful transition. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of ex-offenders who successfully obtained gainful employment following their reintegration into society while navigating the enduring consequences of their past convictions. Self-determination, self-efficacy, and implicit theories grounded this study. While mentoring traditionally supports professional and personal development, especially for early-career faculty, the Jesuit tradition offers a deeper, holistic perspective inspired by spiritual accompaniment practices such as those found in the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus and the Spiritual Exercises. BACKGROUND:

Neonatal thrombocytopenia (platelet count <1.5 lakhs/μL) is one of the most common hematological findings in the neonates, admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The clinical features and laboratory parameters are heterogeneous, with different underlying causes and risk factors. There are still few studies about some possible risk factors and their influence on the newborn’s clinical outcome.

AIM:

This study was conducted to assess the contribution of maternal and fetal factors, clinical profile, and outcome of neonatal thrombocytopenia in NICU.

METHODS:

A prospective observational study was conducted at our tertiary care hospital on 186 neonates with thrombocytopenia admitted to NICU. Maternal and neonatal risk factors were recorded. The risk factors were compared with the severity of thrombocytopenia.

RESULTS:

One hundred and eighty-six neonates with thrombocytopenia, based on platelet counts, were divided into three groups. Mild grade of thrombocytopenia was commonly seen (52.20%), followed by moderate (36.60%). Hypertension (HTN) was the most common …

In 1972, Montana, a prominent petrostate, amended its constitution to enshrine the inalienable right to a clean and healthful environment. After decades of fossil fuel production and consumption, which led to high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, this green amendment became the foundation of Held v. Montana--the first youth-led constitutional climate case to prevail against a petrostate.
