In this licensee holdover proceeding, the Appellate Term affirmed the Civil Court's orders which granted the landlord summary judgment of possession of a condominium apartment and denied the tenant's motion to renew. The landlord sought to evict an adult daughter. The tenant's argument that a familial relationship exempts her from eviction as a licensee was rejected as improperly raised and lacking merit, as the RPAPL contains no such exemption. The court also found renewal properly denied because the purportedly new material was available at the time of the original motion and would not alter the prior decision.

Created and titled as the ARTIC Project (Activating Restoration through Trauma-Informed Courts), this research addresses the gap between industrial/structural realities and relationship/nurturing realities within Substance Use Disorder (SUD) recovery and restorative justice paradigms. Grounded in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), the project emphasized that sustainable behavioral change requires balancing connection with correction (KPICD, 2022). Through a biblical lens, the researcher posits complete healing only comes from our Heavenly Father and occurs on an individual level. Since 2012, several states and municipalities have decriminalized the non-violent use and possession of small amounts of recreational marijuana by adults. These criminal law reforms raise the issue of whether individuals who were convicted in the past should be exonerated retroactively by way of pardons or clemency. Consequently, many past marijuana offenders remain in state prisons for committing acts that are no longer deemed illegal in many states. Furthermore, these prisoners, as well as persons who were formerly accused or imprisoned, suffer from the stigma and negative collateral consequences of their alleged criminality. This study investigates the issue of a country's cybersecurity evolving into a justification for amending the scope of or terminating an international commercial contract. Therefore, the hypothesis is grounded in the neglect of cybersecurity-related issues during the negotiation of certain types of international commercial contracts, as well as in the drafting of their clauses. This underscores the need for an analytical approach to trace the emergence of such risks. This study investigated the development of a meat-type sheep strain by using the differences in body structure in Kangal Akkaraman an indigenous sheep breed of Türkiye. The control group consisted of 15 male lambs born to ewes with dairy-type (DT) body structure and the experimental group consisted of 15 male lambs born to ewes with meat-type (MT) body structure. In this paper, I extend Christopher McCaw’s research on the direct and dynamic relationship between contemplative practices and who teachers are and are becoming. A feminist political economic (FPE) perspective has a more profound concern than cheating: it argues that AI is not a neutral tool. AI constitutes social relations that prevent certain populations from fully participating in political, economic, and civic lives while obscuring unbalanced power relations produced and reproduced in a capitalistic society. This commentary first points out how AI may reinforce gender- and race-biased job stratification in the high-tech industry; and how AI disempowers women of color by locking them in a passive position. It offers some advice of what feminist educators could do to empower students.

In his book Education for Liberal Democracy: Using Classroom Discussion to Build Knowledge and Voice, Walter Parker (2023) takes a centrist approach to redesigning civic education. Throughout the book, Parker provides valuable strategies teachers can implement into the K–12 social studies classroom to teach for democracy. While we believe Parker's instructional strategies lay the groundwork for reshaping civic education, we contend that the book does not adequately address issues of inequality and inequity. We would also challenge Parker to think about how teachers can educate for democracy outside of the social studies curriculum in the United States and globally. …

In an era of rising polarization and populism, how can we transform the literature classroom into a site of democratic education? Drawing on agonistic scholarship, Tysklind et al. (2024) offer the agonistic literary discussion, a novel pedagogical approach aiming to prepare students for the complexities of democracy by forming collective identities and navigating conflictual consensus. To build on the authors’ work, this response article proposes two additions—political literacy and political emotions—and cautions against the risk of antagonism. This is a response to Koponen and Kasa’s argument that feminist theorizing and care ethics have been overlooked as theoretical approaches in the current democratic education debate. Their article draws on these insights to theorize democratic education in ways that combine care and democracy. In my response, I aim to offer clarifying comments and questions while suggesting ideas to expand Koponen and Kasa’s analysis. In a fast-globalizing reform ensemble, we reframe science education for a concept of civic engagement connected to a new social contract for democracy and sustainability. The American philosopher of education John Dewey, writing in the early 1900s, asserted that democracy requires a facelift with each generation in order to respond to the urgent needs of the moment. Dewey asserted that education acts as a midwife in the delivery of democracy. In this transnational comparative study, we conduct a generative critique of science education reforms in two democratic nation states, Ireland and New Zealand. In this essay, the authors posit that democratic backsliding, rather than partisanship, is the prevailing political situation in which civics and social studies teachers are working. The authors then present evidence from focus groups composed of practicing social studies teachers from across the United States to illustrate how the reliance on evidence and argumentation is the primary mode of navigating contemporary political issues. However, while these strategies are built on decades of research in civic education, the authors illustrate a conceptual dilemma: Inquiry strategies may not be able to accommodate the realities of democratic backsliding and its attendant misinformation. Large Language Models (LLMs) may produce syntactically invalid JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) outputs, which can lead to parsing failures in downstream applications. Such errors may include, for example, unbalanced braces, improper quoting, or unescaped characters, and can stem from the probabilistic nature of text generation. A relaxed parsing method is described to address these types of issues. Rather than performing strict, token-by-token validation, the described parser can identify a key-value pair, consume characters between a separating colon and a recognized end-of-value delimiter (such as a comma or closing brace) to define a value, and then attempt to repair certain errors …

The Integrative Neural Networks (INN) frame of reference is an integrated approach to support occupational engagement in parents and primary caregivers of children and youth with complex health care needs (CYSHCN) guided by principles of family-centered care. Given the potential influence of prolonged, cumulative, and or repeated stress on physiological, affective/cognitive, and social/spiritual health, it is imperative that occupational therapists partner with parents and primary caregivers to positively impact occupational engagement across contexts. Analyzing examples from the Decameron (1349-51), De mulieribus claris (1361), and the Corbaccio (1365), I argue that Boccaccio (1313-75) demonstrates an awareness of theological, legal and medical opinions on abortion and contraception at the time. However, he is more attuned to the practical concerns of pregnancy than are many of his contemporaries. Acknowledging the variety of situations facing pregnant people and some parts of their lived experience that were ignored by many religious and legal authorities, Boccaccio highlights a disconnection between theory and practice, and thereby raises questions about the limits of abstract knowledge in the face of practical concerns.

Ignoring the possible hierarchical clustering of the data that frequently characterises the structure of labour markets implies that studies of the effects of income tax changes on labour supply use less than necessary information on the variability of the labour response. Estimation efficiency is reduced and relevant relationships affecting the agents’ reaction to net wage changes remain undetected. The electrical impedance tomography (EIT) problem of estimating the unknown conductivity distribution inside a domain from boundary current or voltage measurements requires the solution of a nonlinear inverse problem. Sparsity promoting hierarchical Bayesian models have been shown to be very effective in the recovery of almost piecewise constant solutions in linear inverse problems. We demonstrate that by exploiting linear algebraic considerations it is possible to organize the calculation for the Bayesian solution of the nonlinear EIT inverse problem via finite element methods with sparsity promoting priors in a computationally efficient manner.
