Journal of Gender, Ethnic, and Cross-Cultural Studies

This report presents our yearly progress in the third year of the Gendered Disabilities Project that aims to collect data and create a digital database on the experiences of Muslim women as people with disability or caretakers, including their access to healthcare services. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has influenced the structure of our research and has strong implications for our research topic, we have integrated the issue into our themes. Meanwhile, we adapted our methodology to the measures and thus conducted the interviews virtually. The remainder of this report first focuses on the integration of COVID19 …

Exploring Metacognition And Mindset In Communication Sciences And Disorders Graduate Students, Kelly Rutherford

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

Purpose: Embedding metacognition into higher education curricula can be particularly challenging in accredited communication sciences and disorders (CSD) graduate programs. Many faculty aim to promote both metacognitive development and a growth mindset among students. This pilot study explored the use of periodic "mindset check-in" surveys within a neurology course for speech-language pathology (SLP) students to examine changes in student attitudes and learning behaviors over time.

Method: This study examined metacognition and mindset in graduate CSD students through six surveys tracking attitudes, study habits, and mindset. Using varied question formats, data analysis summarized patterns and cohort growth over time.

Results: Students …

Journal of Religion & Film

This article provides educators in fields such as Middle Eastern studies, refugee studies, cultural and Islamic studies with a framework from documentaries to challenge stereotypes about Muslim refugees and migrants. Using the framework of lived Islam, the article explores how Syrian Muslim migrants, as seen in documentaries, draw on their faith to build resilience that enables them to continue striving for better lives. This article conceptualizes resilience not only as a personal trait but also as a collective tool for survival and …

The Secular Eschatology Of Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood, Timothy Winterstein Oct 2025

The Secular Eschatology Of Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood, Timothy Winterstein

Journal of Religion & Film

This article considers the ending of Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood in light of Christian eschatology. I argue that Tarantino gives us an image of a temporal, partial eschatological moment, which relates to and interacts with a scriptural, Christian perspective on hope and the universal human longing for things to be other than what they are.

Hermeneutical Priming And Linguistic Hijacking In The God’S Not Dead Series, Brant Entrekin Oct 2025

Hermeneutical Priming And Linguistic Hijacking In The God’S Not Dead Series, Brant Entrekin

Journal of Religion & Film

In this paper, I analyze the evangelical Christian film series God's Not Dead. I argue that the film series functions as Christian Nationalist propaganda through its rhetoric and aesthetic choices. I then develop two forms of epistemic manipulation that the film uses to fulfill its propagandistic function: hermeneutical priming and linguistic hijacking. I suggest that the film series' use of these rhetorical strategies highlights some of the ways that evangelical Christian cinema is engaging with rising right-wing political movements and developing unique evangelical imaginations.

100 Years Of Sergei Eisenstein: Iconographic Language And Revolution, Milja Radovic

Journal of Religion & Film

As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sergei Eisenstein’s masterpiece Броненосец Потёмкин / Battleship Potemkin (1925), it is essential to re-examine the film that has had enduring influence on film theory, history, and scholarship. Voted one of the greatest films of all time, Eisenstein’s cinematic genius has been crucial to understanding the power of film language. This paper focuses on the underexplored relationship between Eisenstein’s film language and iconography, examining the ways in which Orthodox Christian iconography shaped the story of revolution. The paper delves into the ways in which Eisenstein conveyed complex ideas, demonstrating the technical developments of film …

Folinic Acid For Impaired Folate Metabolism To Improve Communication Deficits In Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cheri L. Collins Oct 2025

Folinic Acid For Impaired Folate Metabolism To Improve Communication Deficits In Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cheri L. Collins

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

The purpose of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of folinic acid supplementation in addressing communication deficits in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is characterized by persistent deficiency in social communication and interaction, accompanied by restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. Communication impairments are a core challenge in ASD and remain difficult to treat. Although there is no confirmed etiology, emerging evidence suggests that a subset of children with ASD may have underlying abnormalities in folate metabolism. Folate receptor alpha autoantibodies (FRAAs) are immunoglobulins that interfere with folate metabolism. When present, they can disrupt the transfer of …

When Logics Collide: How Private Firms In Ghana Can Manage The Relationship Between Commercial And Employee Logics To Help Drive Organizational Excellence, Gillian R. Hammah Oct 2025

When Logics Collide: How Private Firms In Ghana Can Manage The Relationship Between Commercial And Employee Logics To Help Drive Organizational Excellence, Gillian R. Hammah

Engaged Management ReView

This study investigates the dynamic relationship between commercial and employee logics in the context of Ghanaian private sector organizations striving for excellence. The research acknowledges the unique geographical context’s influence on institutional logics and aims to contribute an additional dimension to the institutional logics perspective. Ghanaian organizations, like many across Africa, struggle to effectively manage the divergent and potentially conflicting demands between the firm’s commercial goals (commercial logic) and employee interests (employee logic) in pursuit of organizational excellence. However, when they are addressed together (as complementary logics), these logics serve as key drivers of organizational excellence. This study employs a …

Exploring The Experience Of Nursing Students During Their Community Health Nursing Clinical Placement At Schools, Lina Ghosn Nouwayhed

Dissertations

Community health nursing is an exciting, challenging, and evolving field that creatively integrates various areas of nursing practice with public health knowledge (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2016). Learning in practical settings is invaluable for student nurses; that is why clinical placements account for 50% of nursing curriculum requirements (Henderson, 2011). At Makassed University of Beirut, the community nursing practicum takes place in schools, with school nurses serving as mentors during these placements.

This research study aims to:

  • Explore the experiences of student nurses during community clinical practice.
  • Develop guidelines to enhance learning during community clinical practice.

The study sample consisted of …

For the quantitative portion, 267 adolescents (89 non-heterosexual and 178 heterosexual) completed a validated questionnaire. We conducted univariate and bivariate analyses examining gender distribution as well as the association between social construction factors and the formation of sexual orientation.

Results: Logistic regression identified key …
