Use Of Prophylaxis For Deep Venous Thrombosis And Pulmonary Embolism In Isolated Foot And Ankle Trauma, Regina Hansen, Alexander P. Rader, Naohiro Shibuya, Daniel C. Jupiter

Background: Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) are relatively rare after foot and ankle surgery, especially after trauma. Diagnosing DVT is difficult, and even when it is discovered it does not necessarily clinically manifest on, for example, duplex ultrasound. Thus, it is often recommended that prophylaxis use be assessed on a case-by-case basis based on risk profile rather than being uniformly given or not prescribed.

The single-valued neutrosophic N-soft set model is a superior tool for capturing ambiguity and incompleteness in real-life circumstances. In this paper, we extend the ELECTRE I method to the single-valued neutrosophic N-soft ELECTRE I method in multi-criteria group decision- making environment. To explain the outranking relationship among alternatives with respect to different parameters, this new technique is developed by introducing the ideas of strong, midrange, and weak single-valued neutrosophic N-soft concordance and discordance sets. The original version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (P.L. 119-21) included section 899, which would have imposed retaliatory taxes on individuals and corporations from countries that apply “discriminatory or extraterritorial” taxes to U.S. corporations, defined specifically to include digital services taxes and the undertaxed profits rule of pillar 2.

Against the backdrop of chronically low fertility rates in China and South Korea, this study investigates the relationship between female fertility intentions and family welfare policies in these two East Asian societies. It aims to identify the multidimensional challenges women face, analyze the disjuncture between existing fertility support policies and women's fundamental needs, and propose pathways for policy optimization. Employing a mixed-methods approach including online observation, critical discourse analysis of policy texts, and small-scale semi-structured interviews, the research reveals that women's fertility intentions are constrained by physiological risks, economic pressures, the cultural expectations of "motherhood," and conflicts with personal development. …

Highlights: What are the main findings? Knockout of Plin2 in microglia reduces lipid droplet burden, while enhancing phagocytic clearance capacity. Transcriptomic, bioenergetic, and lipidomic analyses reveal that loss of Plin2 reprograms microglial metabolism toward reduced TAG storage and improved mitochondrial resilience. What are the implications of the main findings? Plin2 serves as a key regulator of microglial lipid droplet stability, metabolic flexibility, and immune function under Alzheimer’s-relevant stressors. Targeting Plin2 may represent a therapeutic strategy to alleviate lipid droplet-driven dysfunction and restore microglial performance in aging and neurodegeneration. Despite extensive efforts in safety alignment, large language models (LLMs) remain vulnerable to jailbreak attacks. Activation steering offers a training-free defense method but relies on fixed steering coefficients, resulting in suboptimal protection and increased false rejections of benign inputs. To address this, we propose AdaSteer, an adaptive activation steering method that dynamically adjusts model behavior based on input characteristics. We identify two key properties: Rejection Law (R-Law), which shows that stronger steering is needed for jailbreak inputs opposing the rejection direction, and Harmfulness Law (H-Law), which differentiates adversarial and benign inputs. For much of modern history, the ocean was treated as a boundless resource rather than as a living system central to planetary climate stability. Scientific advances over the past two decades have revealed the ocean’s indispensable role in regulating climate by absorbing more than 90 percent of excess heat and nearly a third of anthropogenic carbon dioxide. Yet this buffering capacity is eroding as unchecked greenhouse gas emissions drive warming, acidification, and sea level rise. Protecting ocean health has therefore become inseparable from stabilizing the climate, making ocean stewardship and climate action an indivisible imperative.

This qualitative comparative case study examines how culturally grounded philosophies of education shape the teaching and learning of reading in two cross-cultural contexts—an Aboriginal Australian classroom and urban Chinese elementary schools. Drawing on interpretive and reflexive methodologies, it investigates how Aboriginal and Confucian epistemologies influence literacy practices and how these practices align with or resist dominant, decontextualized models of reading instruction. Data sources include classroom observations, reading assessments, teacher interviews, and researcher reflections. Conceptually framed by Gadamer’s hermeneutics, Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital, Habermas’s typology of knowledge, and the Caribbean concept of overstanding, this research finds that Aboriginal literacy is …

The recent 2025 New Jersey Gubernatorial and NYC mayoral races captured national attention as this race could potentially project the mood for the upcoming 2026 midterm election to flip the conservative leaning during the 2024 Presidential election. Particularly, Democrats lost a significant number of votes from the younger demographic groups such as Gen Z, a 10-point decline compared to the 2020 Presidential election (Hartig et al., 2025).
