The adoption of emerging and disruptive technologies, which includes Artificial Intelligence (AI), has driven profound transformations across various sectors and in human behavior in recent years, permeating nearly all fields of knowledge. In this context, the use of AI as a tool to support academic-scientific production cannot be considered an exception. Professional military education for young officers within the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has since 1950 been vested within the South African Military Academy (SAMA), Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University. As an all services academy, the SAMA houses student from all four arms of service that constitute the SANDF, namely the South African Army, Navy, Air Force and Medical Health Services. The Fuegian Steamer Duck Tachyeres pteneres is endemic to the southern cone of South America. Though classified as Least Concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, it is categorized as Near Threatened by the Chilean Ministry of Environment. However, few studies have been conducted on this species, and large portions of its distribution remain unsurveyed. This lack of information hinders a full appreciation of the species' conservation status under the IUCN criteria. We therefore conducted extensive surveys along the southern coast of Chile. Status Of Seabirds In Indonesian Waters, Muhammad Iqbal, Gusti Ayu Widayanti, Ina Aprillia, Diah Komala Sari, Nur Arifah

We report the current status of seabirds in Indonesian waters, where a total of 74 species have been recorded. This includes nine species classified as threatened and 56 species protected under Indonesian law. The majority of seabird species in Indonesia are non-breeding visitors; only 16 have been recorded breeding in the region. Since the 2000s, several new species have been documented, including Red Phalarope Phalaropus fulicarius, Lesser-backed Gull Larus fuscus, Red-billed Tropicbird Phaethon aethereus, Beck's Petrel Pseudobulweria becki, Heinroth's Shearwater Puffinus heinrothi, Slaty-backed Gull Larus schistiagus, and Slender-billed Gull Chroicocephalus genei. First Confirmed Record Of Common Murre Uria Aalge For The Mid-Atlantic Azores, Luís M. D. Barcelos, Rúben Coelho, João P. Barreiros

On 06 December 2024, a Common Murre Uria aalge was photographed in Praia da Vitória fishing harbour, Terceira, Azores. This constitutes the first record for the archipelago, far from the species' usual nearshore range. The bird remained for several days; plumage features confirmed subspecies U. a. aalge. Alcidae are vagrants in the Azores, with the Little Auk Alle alle and Atlantic Puffin Fratercula arctica most often reported. This observation refines knowledge of seabird distribution and vagrancy in this mid-Atlantic oceanic archipelago.

The Brown-headed Gull (BHGU) Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus is a common non-breeding migrant to Sri Lanka's coasts. However, its migration across the Central Asian Flyway—traversing numerous geographic barriers such as the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau to reach the southern Indian peninsula and Sri Lanka—has not been studied. We GPS-tracked two BHGUs between Sri Lanka and their breeding grounds on the Tibetan Plateau from 2021 to 2023, documenting four migrations in total—three northward and one southward. During northward migration (25 April-20 May), the gulls covered 2,786.7 ± 168.0 km in 6.8 ± 1.05 d without any stopovers, although they made several rest …

The Lesser Frigatebird Fregata ariel is widespread in the western and central tropical Pacific, where it breeds from Raine Island, Australia, in the west to the Tuamotu Archipelago in the east (Marchant & Higgins, 1990). The non-breeding range is larger, extending northwest to Japan and rarely Russia (Sibley & Clapp, 1967) and northeast, rarely, to the northwest Hawaiian Islands, USA (Pratt et al., 1987), and exceptionally as a vagrant to the continental United States (Howell et al., 2014).

Breeding phenology is a life history trait that influences reproductive success and population dynamics, yet it remains poorly studied in tropical seabird species. The Caribbean constitutes a breeding hotspot for seabirds, although information about their phenology and reproductive success is limited. We characterized the breeding phenology and reproductive success of seven larid species during the 2021 breeding season on three cays in Cuba. To document breeding phenological phases, we conducted weekly surveys and used camera traps. We also recorded the number of nests, eggs and fledglings. Thick-billed Murres Uria lomvia and Common Murres U. aalge, seabirds with low reproductive rates, delayed reproduction, and high adult survivorship, are hunted in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) by non-Indigenous residents. The traditional hunt has a complex regulatory history as a result of NL joining Canada in 1949 and the protection of non-game species under the Migratory Bird Convention Act. Thirty hunters from the northeastern region of the island of Newfoundland were interviewed about their knowledge of murres, their hunting practices, and their opinions on current hunting regulations. Evolutionary game theory is a sub-field of game theory concerned with the behavior of large populations of strategically interacting players who recurrently revise their strategies based on the availability of better payoff opportunities. In such games, rather than directly focusing on the equilibrium analysis (as in the case of static/one-shot games), the strategic behavior of the population is modeled via an evolutionary game dynamic (a differential equation on a suitable state space of the population). Many economic, academic, and social factors influence college completion, and scholars have documented that a significant cause of students leaving school before graduation is that many do not have their basic needs for food, housing, and health care met. These barriers undermine their academic success by forcing students to reduce the time spent on their studies, work more hours, or stop out of school to support themselves or their families. In this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, I developed a clinical practice guideline to address the absence of a standardized process for identifying adult outpatients at risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a community-based mental health clinic. Without such a process, delays in trauma-focused care and inconsistent referrals may occur. The evidence base supports the use of brief, validated screening tools, such as the Primary Care PTSD Screen for DSM-5, for accurate risk identification in routine practice. In this non-payment proceeding, the landlord's motion to restore the case and for a money judgment and warrant of eviction was denied. The court found that the landlord failed to provide a reasonable excuse for the significant delay of over 31 months in seeking restoration after the parties had previously settled the matter by stipulation. This period was well beyond the one-year statutory limit set by 22 NYCRR § 208.14(c). The court also considered the potential prejudice to the 71-year-old long-term rent-regulated tenant, noting that restoring the matter for judgment on years of unchallenged rent could be unfair.

Nanodiamonds (NDs), tetrahedral carbon structures with a size ranging from 1 to 100 nm, have gained growing attention in recent years due to their distinct optical, thermal, and mechanical properties compared to other carbon nanomaterials (e.g., graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon dots). Combined with a high surface-to-volume ratio and tunable and chemically versatile surfaces, these support broad applications across catalysis, electronics, and life sciences. Moreover, the biocompatible characteristics of NDs enable their controllable interfacial interactions with biological systems, positioning them as excellent candidates for advancing cutting-edge biomedical sciences, particularly through the engineering of efficient material biointerfaces that facilitate optimal interactions with …
