Ptolemaïs of Cyrene is the earliest known female music theorist from antiquity. Her lost work, Pythagorean Elements of Music, is a substantive addition to the debate on the differences in approaches to reason and perception in harmonic science from Pythagorean and Aristoxenian doctrines. It only survives in three quotations in Porphyry of Tyre’s Commentary on Ptolemy’s Harmonics, a work known and used by humanists and music theorists alike in the Italian Renaissance. Considering that numerous individuals in Renaissance Italy—in particular, Franchino Gaffurio, Gioseffo Zarlino, and Vincenzo Galilei—had access to Porphyry’s Commentary, it is a mystery as to why she does …

Classroom conflict between students and instructors, as well as among students, is a phenomenon that significantly impacts student academic engagement, performance, and emotional well-being; yet, it is often overlooked. Conflicts may result from poor attendance, lack of participation, unclear grading policies, miscommunication, and technology-related disruptions, and are frequently addressed through top-down course policies that exclude student perspectives. Benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed secondary drugs of abuse that cause Central Nervous System depression through the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid. While not commonly fatal on their own, benzodiazepines have a minor risk for physical dependence and abuse. They also can have cumulative effects with other medications that can lead to overdose situations; thus, they are considered secondary drugs of abuse. This grounded qualitative study explored the common themes of ecotherapy in practice. The research problem was the limited understanding of how counselors implement ecotherapy in clinical practice, hindering the field’s ability to fully integrate nature-based approaches into mental health treatment. The purpose of this grounded theory study was to explore counselor perspectives on ecotherapy using the biophilia hypothesis and Swarbrick’s wellness model. The research questions focused on how licensed mental health counselors understood, implemented, and evaluated the impact of ecotherapy. The school-to-prison pipeline, where minority men experience decreased academic performance, higher truancy rates, and increased vulnerability to arrest, persists in the United States. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how systemic racism is experienced by formerly incarcerated, college-educated Black men who were criminalized for behavioral issues that contributed to their incarceration. The research problem was a lack of knowledge of the experiences of educational environments and disciplinary systems that perpetuate racialized behavioral labeling and contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline. Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (H-IRI) is a critical complication in liver surgery and liver transplantation, contributing to graft dysfunction and poor clinical outcomes. When hepatocyte protective mechanisms are insufficient to counteract energy depletion and oxidative stress during ischemia, cell death occurs. Tissue damage during H-IRI leads to the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which recruit and activate immune cells such as neutrophils and monocytes, orchestrating the initiation, progression, and eventual resolution of sterile inflammation. Extended criteria donor (ECD) livers, particularly steatotic ones, are more vulnerable to H-IRI, leading to poorer outcomes and limiting expansion of the donor pool. However, the …

Lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) are rare substrate-accumulating diseases primarily characterized by mutations in genes encoding proteins involved in lysosomal function, most of which have enzymatic activity. Resulting lysosomal dysfunction leads to the overaccumulation of non- or partially degraded substrates. While it is true that enzyme deficiency is the primary cause of LSDs, the epigenetic alterations in DNA methylation, miRNA expression, and histone modifications appear to be critical mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of LSDs. Introduction: Athletic trainers (ATs) have a foundational knowledge in many facets of health, including optimization of wellness. Though ATs may be actively trying to improve their own health, societal pressure can have a large impact on behavior. This paper examines Mary Wollstonecraft’s strategic use of sentimental animal tropes alongside rationalist critique in Maria, or The Wrongs of Woman (1798) and A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), arguing that she mobilizes sensibility not as an end in itself, but as a pedagogical instrument within a broader project of aesthetic education—one intended to move readers from affective sympathy toward political and philosophical judgment. Generative artificial intelligence (gAI) is generating vast vol- umes of content, including visual art with minimal human effort that competes directly with visual artists and threatens to dilute human culture in the process. In response, courts and copyright offices are quietly reintroducing two doctrines long considered incompatible with modern copyright: sweat of the brow, which rewards labor over originality, and aesthetic discrimination, which risks conditioning protection on perceived merit.

igher-order phonon scatterings beyond fourth order remain largely unexplored despite their potential importance in strongly anharmonic materials at elevated temperatures. We develop a theoretical formalism for first-principles calculation of five- and six-phonon scatterings using Green’s function techniques based on a diagrammatic formalism, and systematically investigate multi-phonon interactions in Si, MgO, and BaO from room temperature to near melting points. Our calculations reveal dramatically different material-dependent behaviors: while five- and six-phonon processes remain negligible in Si even at high temperatures, they become increasingly important in MgO near its melting point (3100 K) and in BaO at intermediate temperatures (1200 K). Over the past two decades, the Federal Trade Commission has brought dozens of enforcement actions against companies for failing to adequately secure customers’ personal information. The actions typically result in a consent decree, in which the company agrees to improve its data security practices and provide the FTC with oversight of those improvements. When the FTC first brought data security cases, its orders generally required the companies to adopt “reasonable” data security programs. But a 2018 Eleventh Circuit opinion, LabMD v. This work presents a facile mechano-thermal route for the synthesis of carbon-decorated, hollow, mesoporous alpha-Fe2O3 microspheres. Comprehensive characterization (XRD, XPS, FT-IR, SEM/EDX, TGA, zeta-potential) confirmed the formation of phase-pure hematite with nanoscale crystallites (similar to 19 nm), substantial residual surface carbon (similar to 40 wt%) consistent with Fe-O-C linkages, and a positive surface charge (+15.9 mV). The hierarchical hollow/mesoporous architecture enables fast ion transport and provides extensive interior binding sites, resulting in rapid Pb(II) uptake that reaches 92% removal in approximate to 15 min at pH 5.0. Encrypted traffic is becoming a pillar of security and privacy in enterprise networks. According to Google Transparency Report, over 95 percent of internet traffic is encrypted with the use of Hypertext Transfer Protocol secure (HTTPS), Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 and Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC). Although encryption safeguards confidentiality and integrity, it has also introduced new blind spots to the conventional security solutions. Encrypted channels are used to hide command-and-control (C2) traffic, issue malware and extract sensitive data without their notice.

This study investigates the design of five popular Spanish language textbooks used in university-level Spanish language courses in the U.S.; Portales 2.0, ¡Arriba!, Contraseña, Dicho y Hecho, and Trayectorias. It replicates Fernández (2011), DeMil & Aubrey (2013), and White & Farinelli (2015) by applying similar assessment criteria to leading beginning Spanish language textbooks, but with revised criteria for contemporary pedagogical and technological advancements. This study focused on print textbooks or eBook versions of textbooks provided by online learning platforms. Online activities were not analyzed.

With the existential threat of climate change, there is increased attention about the corporation's duty to maintain a healthy environment, particularly in light of the conventional shareholder primacy model of corporate purpose. This article proposes the idea of judicial climate governance. In the absence of robust legislative reforms that would obligate corporations to mitigate and even eliminate their inordinate climate impacts, in climate change litigation courts can and should render liability and compensation decisions that direct corporations towards a more stakeholder-friendly model of corporate purpose. In this nonpayment proceeding, the tenant moved to consolidate several similar proceedings against the same landlord, citing common issues regarding VAWA compliance and the landlord's alleged failure to serve required HUD-5382 forms as a condition precedent. The landlord cross-moved for sanctions, alleging frivolous conduct. The court partially granted the tenant's motion to consolidate, combining cases in similar procedural postures involving the same building and petitioner. The court denied the landlord's cross-motion, finding the tenant's motion was not frivolous. The tenant's motion to dismiss the petitions was deferred and restored for a future status conference.
