Fundamental Fairness Guides The Supreme Court's Criminal Justice Decisions In The 2024-2025 Term, Sharon R. Fairley

During the 2024-2025 term, the Supreme Court decided fifteen cases related to the criminal justice system. These cases were brought by criminal defendants seeking post-conviction relief and civil litigants seeking redress for governmental harms arising out of criminal processes. Remarkably, two-thirds of the cases resulted in decisions favoring defendants or civil litigants opposing the government. This Article argues that the pro-defendant outcomes from this term are consistent with a recent trend in the Court’s decisions favoring defendants in these types of cases. Systematic Classification Of Recent Benthic Foraminifera In Socotra Island And Hadhramout Coastline And Their Environmental Significance, Wafa’A M. Al-Qadassi, Mohammed A. Al-Wosabi, Enas A. Ahmed
Sultan Qaboos University Journal For Science
This study explores the ecological significance of benthic foraminifera in the subtropical marine ecosystems of Socotra Island and the Hadhramout coastline, located in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. A total of 216 species from 91 genera were identified in 32 surface sand samples collected during 2017 and 2018. The study examines how environmental factors including salinity, temperature, and substrate type affect the distribution of foraminifera. The results reveal that the assemblages and species diversity are distinct in each studied region, indicating a notable adaptability of foraminifera to specific environments. Groundwater Exploration Using Electrical Resistivity Method: A Case Study Of Ga-Gata, Ilorin, Nigeria, A. K. Olawuyi, V. O Oluwole

Twenty-five Schlumberger Vertical Electrical Soundings and six Horizontal Resistivity Profiling for groundwater exploration at Ga-Gata along Ajase-ipo road, Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria were carried out. The aim was to identify the different subsurface geoelectric layers and the aquifer units. Using the usual method of curve matching with the Orellana-Mooney Master curves and 1-D forward modeling with WinResist 1.0TM software, between three to five lithologic units were identified. These include: the topsoil, the lateritic layer, the weathered layer, the fractured layer and the fresh bedrock. The weathered and fractured basement constitutes the main aquifer unit. This paper examines how digital marketing is being reshaped by five interrelated tensions: balancing data privacy and personalization; navigating global–local dynamics (including cultural sensitivities and country-of-origin effects); integrating artificial intelligence without losing human connection; ensuring authentic communication to mitigate reputational risks linked to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and ethical storytelling; and responding to shifting consumer preferences, particularly among younger generations. We combine a targeted literature review with semistructured interviews of marketing professionals across industries and seniority levels. Findings portray marketers as “tightrope walkers” who negotiate paradoxes that redefine the function. We propose an integrated framework that synthesizes previously fragmented …

Gas Chromatographic Analysis Of Fractions Separated By Atmospheric Distillation Of Pyrolysis Distillate, Gulnora K. Komolova, Lola A. Yusupova
CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
The primary objective of this study is to optimize the process of isolating the C9 hydrocarbon fraction from pyrolysis distillate and to evaluate the impact of various temperature regimes on the product composition. To achieve this goal, the dry distillation process was conducted at three different temperatures: 152 °C, 159 °C, and 170 °C. Condensate samples obtained from each test were analyzed using gas chromatography (GC). The analysis results revealed that the fraction obtained at 152 °C yielded the most favorable outcome: the C9 fraction yield was 11.11%, which is higher than the values obtained at 159 °C (4.59%) and …

Conventional industrial agriculture has detrimental effects on the environment including pollution and overconsumption of water, soil degradation, and biodiversity reduction. An environmentally sustainable future of food production requires alternative methods that limit negative environmental consequences. Syntropic Agriculture (SA) is a promising farming alternative especially for arid systems at risk of desertification. New Mexico, USA, is a semi-arid continental climate in a prolonged period of drought and predicted to experience worsening agricultural conditions including desertification, wildfire intensification, and exacerbated water scarcity. Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The last 4 years of headlines describing the various book bans and curricular gag orders happening in the United States serve as an important context for P–12 teachers’ daily work. This article describes the findings from a qualitative survey that sought to understand what influences P–12 teachers’ text selection for teaching and for inclusion in their classroom library in the aforementioned context. Teachers reported stakeholders who held decision-making power as well as which stakeholders were influential in their text selection. Three overarching themes emerged from teachers’ most influential factors in their text selection: social and communal influences, literary content and …

This research seeks to bridge the gap between K–12 inclusion practices and the realities of higher education by exploring how universal design, institutional support, and educators’ belief systems can create more inclusive environments and support students to have higher grades and more intrinsic mastery of the subject matter. It is not enough to mandate inclusion; we must actively build systems that support all learners, regardless of whether their disability is visible, diagnosed, or self-identified. Resolving The Energy Efficiency Paradox: Leveraging Benefits For Saudi Arabia’S Building Sector, Fateh Belaïd, Mahelet G. Fikru
Economics Faculty Research & Creative Works
This article examines the economics of energy efficiency in Saudi Arabia's building sector, centering on the "energy efficiency paradox," the observed under adoption of cost-effective technologies despite their clear benefits—such as reducing energy use and associated emissions. We show that a mix of market barriers and behavioral biases—including split incentives, informational gaps, and the value-action gap—constrains adoption of energy-efficient solutions. Recent modeling suggests that improved air-conditioning labels could save up to 80 TWh of electricity annually, though rebound effects may erode some of these gains. Our analysis shows that tackling market failures is necessary but not enough. Strong building codes …

Informed consent is a fundamental component of anesthesia practice and is recognized as professional Standard IV by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA). Despite its importance, anesthesia providers often face challenges in effectively obtaining consent from patients. Within The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Nurse Anesthesia Program (NAP), a need was identified to strengthen student competency in conducting anesthesia informed-consent discussions. This project developed and implemented an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as a standardized, evidence-based approach to teach and assess informed-consent skills in alignment with the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA, 2019) standards.
