Exploring Chatgpt As A Simulated Client: A Feasibility Study In Undergraduate Counselor Training, Kayla E. Hayes, Rebecca L. Wilson, Joshua Wilson
Exploring Chatgpt As A Simulated Client: A Feasibility Study In Undergraduate Counselor Training, Kayla E. Hayes, Rebecca L. Wilson, Joshua Wilson
Journal of Technology in Counselor Education and Supervision
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) offers new possibilities for simulation-based counselor training by enabling scalable, text-based interactions that mimic human dialogue. This exploratory feasibility study examined whether ChatGPT can serve as a simulated counseling client and feedback provider for undergraduate students learning counseling skills. Five upperclassmen completed a 45–60-minute text-based session with ChatGPT portraying “Sarah,” a college student experiencing depression and loneliness, followed by AI feedback and a semi-structured interview. Trained raters judged ChatGPT’s client portrayal and feedback as generally accurate, particularly for tone, empathy, and identification of students’ strengths. Accuracy was lower for rapport, summarizing, and pacing characteristic of an …

Generative Artificial Intelligence In Counselor Development: Examining Systemic Influences On Training, Lauren Dollarhide, Leo Gonzalez Jr., Rachel M. Smith
Journal of Technology in Counselor Education and Supervision
The use of large language models (LLMs) and generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, AI-assisted supervision platforms, and AI-powered role-play simulations) in counselor education is changing the way counselors-in-training (CITs) are trained and has both risks and benefits for the field. This conceptual article applied Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory to evaluate the impact of these technologies at multiple levels within the counseling training environment. The microsystem is described as the interactions between CITs and the AI they use to support their training experiences (e.g., AI-based learning tools, role-playing simulations). The mesosystem refers to the movement of AI across different …
Depictions Of Girls With Adhd In Contemporary Picturebooks: A Critical Content Analysis, Madison Briann Smith
Depictions Of Girls With Adhd In Contemporary Picturebooks: A Critical Content Analysis, Madison Briann Smith
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines how girls with ADHD are depicted in contemporary picturebooks through the theoretical framework of critical disability studies (CDS). While research has increasingly explored disability representation in children's literature, depictions of girls with ADHD remain underexamined despite the ways in which ADHD manifests in female populations and the historical underdiagnosis of females with the condition. Using critical content analysis (CCA), six contemporary picturebooks featuring female protagonists with ADHD were analyzed for their visual and textual representations of neurodiversity. Findings were organized into two overarching themes: strength-based and deficit-based depictions. Strength-based portrayals emphasized creativity, identity formation through adult mentors, …

Developing And Validating A Socio-Technical Bim-Lean Integration Maturity Model For Predicting Construction Project Performance, Felix Delmonte
Developing And Validating A Socio-Technical Bim-Lean Integration Maturity Model For Predicting Construction Project Performance, Felix Delmonte
Mechanical and Civil Engineering Faculty Publications
This study proposes a socio-technical, multi-level maturity model that integrates BIM and Lean to explain variation in project performance across cost, schedule, productivity, quality, safety, and sustainability, and outlines a sequential mixed-methods design-science programmed for instrument development and validation. Combining systematic review, semi-structured expert interviews, Delphi consensus, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, multi-criteria weighting, and PLS-SEM, the approach separates adoption, subsystem capability, and integration maturity, and treats integration as an emergent property of aligned infrastructure, human capability, governance, and continuous-improvement routines. Measurement development emphasizes reflective multi-item constructs for BIM technical capability, Lean production governance, system integration quality, socio-technical alignment, and …
An Integrated Bim, Ipd And Lean Capability Maturity Model For Construction, Felix Delmonte
An Integrated Bim, Ipd And Lean Capability Maturity Model For Construction, Felix Delmonte
Mechanical and Civil Engineering Faculty Publications
This study proposes an integrated BIM–IPD–Lean maturity construct that conceptualizes digital information management, contractual governance, and production system discipline as interdependent socio-technical capabilities and develops a validated measurement architecture to relate this higher order construct to project performance. A mixed methods strategy is described that uses qualitative interviews and expert panels to generate items and maturity level descriptions, followed by pilot testing and rigorous psychometric evaluation (EFA, AVE, Composite Reliability, CFA/PLS-SEM) to establish convergent and discriminant validity for BIM, IPD, and Lean subscales. Hypotheses anticipate a positive association between integrated maturity and quality, time, cost, safety, productivity, sustainability, and stakeholder …

The Method And The Machinery: Gloria Steinem, India, And The Cold War Making Of American Second Wave Feminsim, 1956-1972, Rashida Shafiq
History Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation argues that Gloria Steinem became one of the most visible feminists of her generation because two political inheritances — postcolonial India and the Cold War liberal United States — converged in a single career. In 1957 and 1958, on a Chester Bowles Asian Fellowship, Steinem spent eighteen months in India, where she moved from elite intellectual circles in Delhi to Gandhian and Sarvodaya peace work in the villages of Ramnad. Walking with Bhoodan fieldworkers through caste-riot-stricken communities, she absorbed a repertoire of organizing practices — listening across difference, lateral and leaderless structure, decision by consensus, and the conversion …
Measuring Cosmic Expansion From Early To Late Times Using Quasars, Galaxies, & Local Supernovae, Rajeev Vaisakh
Measuring Cosmic Expansion From Early To Late Times Using Quasars, Galaxies, & Local Supernovae, Rajeev Vaisakh
Physics Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates the evolution of cosmic expansion across a wide redshift ($z$) range by combining measurements from quasars \& galaxies in the distant universe $(z > 0.8)$ with those obtained from stripped-core collapse supernovae observations from the nearby universe $(z < 0.1)$. Using the DESI spectroscopic survey, we analyze large-scale clustering from quasars over $0.8 < z < 2.1$ and emission line galaxies over $0.8 < z < 1.6$, contributing to DESI DR2 BAO and full-shape measurements of cosmic expansion and structure growth. Combined with BBN in flat $\Lambda$CDM, DESI DR2 BAO gives $H_0 = 68.51 \pm 0.58$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$, while combinations of DESI BAO with CMB and supernova data show a preference for evolving dark energy, with representative constraints such as $w_0 = -0.752 \pm 0.057$ and $w_a = -0.86^{+0.23}_{-0.20}$ for DESI+CMB+DESY5. Using the ROTSE-III Supernova Survey and the expanding photosphere method (EPM), we measure distances to a sample of six supernovae for which the thermal phase can be clearly identified. This analysis focuses on testing whether reliable EPM distances can be obtained for this population. The resulting distances will eventually be compared with independent estimates from the literature. Establishing consistency with these external measurements represents an important step toward applying this methodology to larger samples, with the eventual goal of using ROTSE supernova distances to provide an independent measurement of the local Hubble constant.

Leveraging School Leadership To Strengthen Teacher Retention In Urban High-Needs Schools, Sharri Zachary
Education Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study, supported by descriptive quantitative data, examined the leadership practices that principals in urban high-needs schools use to influence teacher retention while leading their schools and navigating external conditions and educational policies. The study was grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model of human development and reframed the traditional focus on family and social development to examine principal-teacher interactions within school environments. The study addressed the lack of clarity regarding how teacher retention is defined, measured, and interpreted, particularly in relation to principals’ efforts to recruit, develop, and support teachers under shifting conditions and accountability expectations. Descriptive quantitative data provided …

Court denied owner's motion to dismiss HP action brought by tenant in an interim multiple dwelling (IMD) subject to the Loft Law, rejecting arguments based on res judicata and collateral estoppel (prior Article 78 was dismissed on procedural, not substantive, grounds), primary jurisdiction of the Loft Board, and the inapplicability of the Housing Maintenance Code to IMDs. Court held Multiple Dwelling Law § 282-a(2) contemplates concurrent Housing Court jurisdiction over housing maintenance enforcement in IMDs.
Decreasing Icu Clabsi Through Improved Central Line Dressing Integrity, Sharmila Reyes Moreno
Decreasing Icu Clabsi Through Improved Central Line Dressing Integrity, Sharmila Reyes Moreno
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) are a significant source of preventable patient harm, increased healthcare costs, and prolonged hospital stays. In a 20-bed medical-surgical ICU, CLABSI events increased from one case in 2024 to four cases in 2025, resulting in a standardized infection ratio (SIR) of 1.21, exceeding the organizational target of ≤ 0.87.
Context: Audits of central line dressings identified frequent edge lifting and dressing disruption despite staff awareness of CLABSI prevention practices. These findings suggested a gap between evidence-based recommendations and consistent clinical practice. The project was conducted in a 20-bed adult medical-surgical ICU serving a diverse …
Algebraic And Topological Methods In Computational Neuroscience, Trong-Thuc Trang
Algebraic And Topological Methods In Computational Neuroscience, Trong-Thuc Trang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Neural data is incredibly rich in combinatorial, topological, and geometrical information, reflecting the intricate shape and connectivity of neural firing patterns. To decipher these structures, neuroscience increasingly relies on advanced mathematical tools to analyze neural activity. Here we study (1) neural codes within the poset PCode of neural codes and (2) the connectivity of neural population activity within the insular cortex when responding to interoceptive information. In (1), we establish combinatorial constructions for all upward covering relations based on what we call “isolated subsets” with supporting theorems and give a slight modification of the existing downward covering relations. We …

Drivers Of Stopover Distribution Across Two Autumn Migration Routes Of A Long-Distance Afro-Palearctic Migrant, The Common Cuckoo (Cuculus Canorus), Alex Gale, Máire Kirkland, Phil Atkinson, Robert Puschendorf, Chris Hewson
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
Across the globe, many long-distance migratory birds have undergone population declines. Understanding the environmental factors which underly migratory stopover locations can inform conservation strategies for such species. Here, we identify environmental predictors of autumn stopover sites used by UK-breeding male cuckoos (Cuculus canorus) migrating to centralAfrican wintering grounds via two alternative flyways. Between 2011 and 2021, 88 male cuckoos from UK breeding grounds were fitted with <5 g satellite tags connected to the Argos satellite-based tracking system. Filtered stopovers were used to build presence-pseudoabsence distribution models for each flyway, using Boosted Regression Tree and Random Forest algorithms with thirteen climatic, habitat, topographic and anthropogenic variables. Performance was evaluated using 10-fold cross-validation, and weighted ensembles were generated. To assess drought sensitivity, we produced predictions for high- and low-drought years based on Standardised Precipitation–Evapotranspiration Indices (SPEI). Models performed well (AUC=0.79–0.88; TSS=0.50– 0.66) and revealed route-specific environmental predictors. Along the western route, stopover probability was highest in cooler, semi-humid, high-elevation areas with low contemporaneous drought; Iberian mountain ranges emerged as key sites. Along the eastern route, stopover probability was greatest in heterogeneous habitat, with lowlands and uplands favoured over intermediate elevations; the Po watershed appears particularly important. Hunting risk (included to assess anthropogenic threat) was also high at key areas. The spatial extent of stopover regions—and the probability of them being utilised—declined during years ofhigh short-term drought along the western route, and high long-term drought along the eastern route. Whilst Iberian montane stopover regions are sensitive to increasing drought and aridity under climate change, their topographic heterogeneity may provide climatic refuge while limiting intensive land uses. Preference for heterogeneous habitat within the Po watershed highlightsthe need to retain semi-natural habitat within agricultural landscapes. We recommend route-specific conservation measures and higher resolution models using newly available GPS tags to better understand fine-scale site selection within the regions highlighted here.

Chiral organic thin films are emerging as key materials in advanced optoelectronic and chiroptical technologies, where the straightforward, solution-processed fabrication of chiroptically active neat films from small π-conjugated helical molecules is highly desirable for sustainable and scalable device integration. However, in such densely packed systems, the intrinsic chiroptical response is often compromised by macroscopic anisotropies (e.g., linear dichroism and birefringence) and aggregation-induced effects, which obscure genuine molecular signatures and induce or alter chiral exciton coupling. Here, we demonstrate that a readily accessible and conformationally flexible helically chiral boron-dipyrromethene dimer (helicoBODIPY) platform enables the reproducible fabrication of robust solution-processed neat thin …

Collective Trauma And Systemic Negligence: Exploring South Korean Disasters Through Media And Cultural Narratives, Jung H. Hyun, Eunae Han
Trauma Counseling and Resilience
Disaster trauma often occurs at multiple levels, with the systemic level highlighting its collective impact on survivors. Betrayal trauma, inflicted by trusted individuals or institutions including the government, further compounds this experience. Drawing on historical and contemporary challenges in modern Korean history and recognizing their collective impact on the Korean population, this paper examines Korean betrayal trauma stemming from disasters, introduces a new concept of political betrayal trauma, and explores how media can serve as a tool for healing. Through a fictional case study, this paper illustrates how collective cultural narratives support both survivors and the broader society in validating …

Urinary Antimony As A Biomarker For Differentiating Heroin And Brown Mixture Use, Shu-Mei Tsai, Yu-Han Hsiao, Yan-Zin Chang, Sai-Wai Ho
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
Heroin is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance with severe legal consequences for its use, whereas liquid Brown Mixture (BM) is a legally available and commonly prescribed cough remedy in Taiwan. However, numerous cases of BM ingestion have been misinterpreted as heroin use because BM contains opium tincture, leading to similar urine test results. Owing to the rapid metabolism of heroin, detection of the parent drug and its primary metabolite, 6-acetylmorphine, in urine is difficult; thus, interpretation often relies on morphine concentration and the morphine-to-codeine (M/C) ratio, which can be inconclusive. In our BM analysis, the M/C ratio was …
