This Note will examine the conflict the Eleventh Circuit has created with other federal courts with regard to the degree of deference U.S. courts are to give to foreign countries’ interpretations of their own laws. Part II reviews the Lacey Act as well as the facts and decision in McNab v. United States. Part III reviews the act of state doctrine as well as the doctrine of international comity as the contexts for judicial deference. The purpose of this Article is not to argue in favor of protectionism or to shield domestic manufacturers and workers from foreign competition. Rather, it is to illustrate that the promotion of fundamental labor rights allows for fair competition for American workers and supports the right of international workers to enjoy the most basic threshold of workplace standards. U.S. workers and companies should not be pitted against foreign competitors who take advantage of their nation’s lack of or failure to enforce labor and employment laws—exploiting workers’ lack of bargaining power is not legitimate competition. This essay examines the US-USSR exchange debates of the 1970s, organized by the Committee on International Discussion and Debate (CIDD), as a cultural technology integral to Cold War liberalism. Moving beyond traditional narratives of détente-era cultural diplomacy, it argues that these exchanges served not merely as tools of soft power but as ethical performances that modeled free speech as a central democratic conviction. Drawing on the frameworks of Greene & Hicks (2005), Hicks & Greene (2010, 2022), and a Foucauldian conception of diplomacy, the essay analyzes how debate functioned as a practice of liberal democratic subject formation, shaping both participants …

Simulation is an important instructional method in occupational therapy (OT) programs. However, it remains unclear if the various types of simulation hold the same educational value. The objective of this study was to determine the perceived educational value of three different types of simulations (role-play between students, live scenarios with simulated patients [SPs] and tele-simulation with SPs) and the factors that contributed to a higher educational value. This cross-sectional study used a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design. Occupational therapists are uniquely skilled to address the needs of a new mother and the infant during transition to motherhood, as acquisition of this new role may cause a role strain with other previously held roles. New mothers to infants requiring a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization experience additional stressors and considerations during this role transition. The Maternal Role Transition (MRT) Frame of Reference is a novel, community-based approach to facilitate attainment and integration of mothering occupations and address role strain during the perinatal period. Journal of Health Research

Background: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a primary care unit and general practitioner clinic in a tertiary teaching hospital in Hat Yai, Songkhla, Thailand, to evaluate the effect of hand grip strength on maintaining oral hygiene in older adults.

Method: Participants completed a questionnaire, performed a brushing task on a force-sensor–equipped dental model, and had plaque stained before brushing while being video recorded. The primary outcome was plaque removal performance. Multivariable logistic regression identified factors associated with inadequate plaque removal, and sex-specific grip strength cut-off points were determined using receiver operating characteristic analysis.

This study evaluates the impact of the Indonesia–Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (IPPTA) on bilateral trade using the gravity model of international trade. Annual time series data from 1990 to 2023 are analysed through unit root testing, bounds testing, and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) estimation to examine both short- and long-run effects. The model includes four variables: bilateral trade, GDP of Indonesia and Pakistan, geographical distance, and a dummy variable for IPPTA to compare trade performance before and after the agreement’s implementation. The production of polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers by force-spinning from polymer solutions was confirmed by electron microscopy. The structural and phase characteristics of the resulting nanofiber mats were examined using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Attenuated Total Reflectance mode, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray Diffraction. Results from all these techniques consistently indicated that both the powder and the mats of polyvinylidene fluoride predominantly contain the α phase, with a small admixture of the β phase. [Objective ] This study aims to screen the strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB ) suitable for Suancai fermentation.[Method ] Traditional fermented Suancai from the Dai ethnic region of Yunnan was used as the research samples for the isolation and purification of LAB.The purified isolates were evaluated for fermentation characteristics,including nitrite degradation,acid production,acid resistance,and salt tolerance.Additionally,the antimicrobial activity,antibiotic susceptibility,hemolytic activity,and amino acid decarboxylase activity were assessed to identify dominant strains.[Result ] A total of 208 LAB strains were isolated from 40 Suancai samples.Preliminary screening based on nitrite degradation identified 20 strains with high efficiency,and 16S rDNA sequencing identified 15 strains …
