Conservation governance is frequently characterized as a rule-based system in which bureaucratic actors enforce standardized regulations to protect biodiversity. In practice, however, conservation policies are implemented within socially contested landscapes. Strict regulatory enforcement may generate conflict and undermine governance objectives. Although public administration research underscores the importance of bureaucratic discretion in policy implementation, limited attention has been paid to its influence on environmental governance in developing countries. This article investigates discretionary practices in Indonesian conservation area management using an ethnographic approach that incorporates interviews, field observations, and case studies across multiple sites. This study was conducted to determine the effect of rangeland quality on the rumen development of Angora goat kids and bucks. Twenty male singleton Angora goat kids with similar birth dates and birth weights were selected from each farm in an area with three different rangeland quality levels (good, medium, or poor) in Ankara Province. The kids were weaned at 60 days of age and then grazed completely on rangeland until slaughter. Rumen volumetric and papillary development of animals slaughtered at 4 and 7 months of age were determined. Empty rumen length, width, and weight were affected by rangeland quality …

This study aimed to examine the morphological and histological features of the hard palate in the Anatolian water buffalo through light and scanning electron microscopy, complemented by gross and morphometric evaluations. Eight hard palates were used in the study. A total of eight Anatolian water buffalo heads from healthy adult female water buffaloes were collected immediately after slaughter from various slaughterhouses in Balıkesir, Türkiye. After analyzing and identifying the obtained hard palate samples, measurements were taken and documented through photography. In any constitutional system, it is difficult to reconcile the need for legal certainty and constitutional adaptation when there is judicial departure from constitutional precedent. In this paper, We develop a functional comparative approach that explains how constitutional systems maintain legal certainty in the face of constitutional adaptation enabled by judicial departure from constitutional precedents. Using comparative analysis of United States Supreme Court jurisprudence (1954–2023) and French Constitutional Council rulings (1971–2023), We examine how such systems preserve their constitutional stability in spite of judicial change. Odorant identity is encoded by patterns of activity across olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) and their corresponding glomeruli in the antennal lobe (AL). An odorant's valence can be modified by experience, allowing animals to associate previously neutral odors with appetitive or aversive outcomes. However, some odors appear resistant to such reassignment, and the factors determining whether an odor can acquire learned valence and whether that association generalizes to chemically related odors remain poorly understood. This thesis uses Drosophila melanogaster to address this question using a fully automated proboscis extension reflex (PER) conditioning assay. This thesis demonstrates how machine learning techniques can solve computationally challenging problems across diverse areas of physics, from high-energy astrophysics to condensed matter systems, accelerating traditional computation. My first contribution addresses the computational expense of Monte Carlo calculations for radiative processes in relativistic plasmas. I develop a neural network sampling method that enables fast sampling from an arbitrary probability density, and demonstrate the method on inverse Compton scattering, achieving a speedup of up to an order of magnitude beyond standard methods. My second contribution addresses the structure and radiation of neutron star magnetospheres. I use physics-informed neural networks to model …

Fredric Jameson In Asia: Interpreting Korean Gothic Through Haunted Modernity, Eugene Kim

Asian Gothic, particularly in its Korean manifestation, both embodies and unsettles postmodernism as theorized by Fredric Jameson. While sharing postmodern characteristics such as fragmented temporality and commodification, Korean Gothic resists being dismissed as pastiche by demonstrating historical trauma, the grotesque, and forms of the sublime that revise Western-centered accounts of postmodernity. This article engages with Park Chan-kyong’s concept of “Asian Gothic” and uses Goedam as a popular cultural example. It argues that Korean Gothic functions as an aesthetic response to compressed modernity, generating a horizontal sublime through the interplay of terror, spiritual affect, and non-linear temporalities.

Thus, Indonesia declares its identity as an archipelagic nation and actively promotes the geographical facts mentioned above as maritime nationalism. This article reframes Sinophone Malaysian (Mahua) literature through the perspective of island studies, foregrounding Malaysia’s cross-island configuration. We propose negative islandness as an operational category: a structurally produced negative affect of suspension, deferral, and dread generated by the island–sea regime’s simultaneous openness and boundedness. We argue that, in Ng Kim Chew’s “Fish Bones” and “Allah’s Will,” the island operates as a mechanism that interstitializes perspectives and tidalizes narrative time, thereby converting arrival into an unfinished passage and relocating trauma into embodied, material rhythms. Since Suharto’s resignation in 1998, Indonesian writers and intellectuals have been preoccupied with recovering and rearticulating suppressed voices to contest the New Order’s dual ideology of capitalist developmentalism and anticommunism. This critical endeavor often draws on postmodernism’s valorization of non-totalizable multiplicity against any form of metanarrative. Arise! Songs of the Philippine National Democratic Struggle under Paredon Records. The joint project took years before completion after being shelved temporarily due to the imposition of martial law by Ferdinand Marcos in 1972. Composed of nineteen tracks, the album exposes Spanish colonial oppression, American imperialist exploitation, and state repression of the US-backed Marcos dictatorship. Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales, renowned for their aesthetic refinement and ethical resonance, encountered a distinctive and historically contingent reception in early twentieth-century China. This study examines the translation and introduction of these fairy tales across three key periods (1909–1919; 1919–1937; 1937–1949), arguing that translation and introduction practices were shaped not by a unified logic but by shifting literary, ideological, and sociopolitical conditions. The study employs Homi K. Airports are required to maintain obstruction-free airspace surfaces under 14 CFR Part 77; however, vegetation and perimeter obstruction management is often conducted through periodic ground inspections and contractor-led surveys that provide only snapshot conditions. These approaches may delay detection of encroachments into approach, transitional, horizontal, or primary surfaces, increasing the risk of operational impacts and reactive mitigation. This study proposes an FAA-aligned framework integrating small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) into obstruction monitoring workflows through recurring, repeatable perimeter inspections. High-resolution optical and LiDAR sensors, combined with RTK/PPK-enabled GNSS correction, generate centimeter-level geospatial datasets that are processed into canopy height models. These …
