Evaluation of conversational artificial intelligence systems can depend on diverse datasets, but using raw user data may introduce privacy risks, and some anonymization techniques, such as redaction, can degrade data utility. A system for generating synthetic data can operate by transforming original text prompts. For example, a process can involve tokenizing a prompt, generating vector embeddings for the tokens, and performing a semantic search against a vector database. This database may contain embeddings for terms from a controlled, privacy-safe lexicon. Original tokens can be replaced with semantically similar counterparts from this lexicon to assemble a new, synthetic prompt. This technique …

On-screen user interfaces for interactive narratives may disrupt immersion and can lack mechanisms for persistent user engagement after a story concludes. A multi-device architecture may be used where a primary display presents cinematic content while a synchronized secondary device, such as a smartphone, smart watch, or other wearable device, manages diegetic user interactions via voice, motion, or touch. A remote server can orchestrate the experience and log user choices. This thesis examines the Curious George series through Donna Haraway’s companion species framework in order to analyze how narratives of care, curiosity, and goodness structure human–animal relationships within the stories. Focusing on the first seven books written and illustrated by H. A. Writing-from-sources assignments (also known as research papers) are an integral part of a college education and primarily how librarians support information literacy skill development. While students have always found ways to circumvent learning through plagiarism, generative AI systems’ ability to complete entire assignments means that past recommendations to discourage plagiarism are insufficient. This article reviews previous plagiarism-deterrent recommendations, what has changed in the age of generative AI, and provides suggestions for how teaching faculty and librarians can respond.

I analyzed a multitude of primary sources related to Sherwood Fiske Brown, including his undergraduate thesis, master’s thesis, and doctoral dissertation. I visited Colby College over the summer of 2025 and uncovered many biographical documents and papers related to his time at Colby, as well as his sabbatical at MIT in 1957. Of particular interest is a biographical information packet completed by Brown upon his date of hire, which provides his occupational and familial history. I also obtained information from St. Lawrence University, MIT, UMass Lowell, and the Framingham Historical Society. These sources …

Hundreds of mitochondrial proteins rely on N-terminal presequences for organellar targeting and import. While generally described as positively charged amphiphilic helices, presequences lack a consensus motif and thus likely promote protein import into mitochondria with variable efficiencies. Indeed, the concept of presequence strength underlies biological models such as stress sensing, yet a quantitative analysis of what dictates strong versus weak presequences is lacking. Furthermore, the extent to which presequence strength affects mitochondrial function and cellular fitness remains unclear.
