This cross-sectional survey research was focused on high school counselors and administrators, who are responsible for recommending high school students for alternative placement. Alternative schools have historically been places where students go who have been excluded from the mainstream school population. Past research has shown that excluding children for behavioral purposes is counterproductive and has a higher-than-average probability of leading to negative outcomes for those children. The purpose of this study is to revise guidelines that can be put in place at traditional high schools to allow for greater flexibility in determining if a student is eligible for alternative placement. …

A Study Of Zomi Pentecostalism In Its Social, Cultural, And Political Context: A Pentecostal Quest For The Lost Paradise, Thang San Mung

This dissertation examines the paradisal quest of the Zomi people, an ethnic Christian minority in Myanmar, through the lens of Pentecostal spirituality. Historically, the Zomi have experienced political displacement, loss of their ancestral homeland (Zogam), and ongoing marginalization. While existing scholarship has primarily interpreted Zomi struggles in terms of ethnic identity, nationalism, and socio-political resistance, this study offers a theological reorientation by interpreting Zomi paradisal longing through the Spirit-Restored Paradise framework, a Pentecostal theological model developed here. Employing a qualitative ethnographic methodology grounded in contextual theology, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with twenty-four Zomi Pentecostal participants from Myanmar and …

Abstract: To address the challenges of high data acquisition costs of test data on dynamic characteristics between tires and soft terrain and low speed of numerical calculation for unmanned vehicles in complex terrestrial environments, a modeling method of unmanned vehicle dynamics based on a neural network was proposed. Will the executive branch comply with court orders? That question has garnered a considerable amount of attention over the first few months of the second Trump administration. But what does it mean to comply? And what if a form of noncompliance is already occurring?

This Article documents an emerging practice that has dominated the second Trump administration's approach to unfavorable court rulings, a practice this Article calls legalistic noncompliance. This Essay details a solution for legislatively restoring Chevron deference: amend the APA to direct lower federal courts to give deference to reasonable agency decisions but retain nondeferential judicial review by the U.S. Supreme Court. This solution restores most of the practical benefits of Chevron by giving agencies flexibility to implement congressional policy directives with the expertise they have acquired, by maintaining stability in administrative regulation, and by relieving lower federal courts of the burdens of nondeferential review. This Essay examines the fundamental tension between originalism and cost-benefit analysis—the two dominant methodologies shaping modern, public law decision-making. Originalism, currently triumphant, prioritizes historical meaning and textual fidelity. It operates in stark contrast to cost-benefit analysis, the byword of the administrative state since 1982, which focuses on the future and efficiency. Descriptively, the two methodologies are irreconcilable. Nor is it possible to pair them by claiming they serve different purposes; originalism and cost-benefit analysis conflict when assessing agency design, constitutional rights, and judicial review of administrative action. Chaotic systems with simple structures and controllable dynamics are highly desirable for practical applications, including secure communications, signal processing, and nonlinear control. However, most existing systems are too complex or lack flexibility in controlling signal amplitude and polarity. In this study, a simple chaotic snap system is considered that has a line of equilibria and is composed of six algebraic terms, with a single quadratic nonlinearity. What does “even” do in conversation? This study shows that when used mid-turn, “even” functions as a systematic device for intensifying stance. Analyzing naturally occurring interactions, I demonstrate how speakers use “even” to upgrade assessments, noticings, and complaints, making them more extreme or noteworthy. We investigated the role of copy number variations (CNVs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) using genotyping data from 10,815 patients (2731 early-onset PD, EOPD) and 8901 controls from the COURAGE-PD consortium. CNVs were analyzed using a sliding window genome-wide association and burden approach. No genome-wide significant CNVs were detected in the overall cohort, but a robust deletion spanning exons 2-6 of PRKN was identified in EOPD cases, validated by MLPA, and replicated in the GP2 dataset (23,089 cases, 18,824 controls). CNV burden was significantly enriched in PD-related genes, primarily driven by PRKN, with the strongest effect observed in EOPD. PRKN CNV …

The thesis examines whether economic sanctions erode the target countries’ state capacity and whether these effects differ by the identity of the sanctioning actors. Drawing on “the naïve theory of sanctions”, the thesis hypothesizes that economic sanctions reduce fiscal and administrative capacity but incentivize military capacity. By incorporating data from the Global Sanctions Database, the World Bank, and the V-Dem datasets, the thesis employs country-fixed-effects models to test hypotheses. The overall findings contradict the naïve assumptions and indicate that sanctions have limited efficacy in undermining the state capacity of target countries. The Impact Of Traffic On Packet Schedulers Within A Simulated Environment, Landon Mohr

Packet scheduling is a well-studied topic in networking. It determines the order in which packets leave a congested output link and therefore affects delay, jitter, throughput, and packet loss. Prior research has shown that different schedulers offer different tradeoffs, but fewer studies have examined how scheduler performance changes under defined mixed-traffic workloads. The experiment uses NS-3 to simulate a congested network with multiple traffic types, including VoIP, gaming, HTTP, streaming, and bulk transfer, and compares FIFO, Strict Priority Queuing, and FQCoDel under varying traffic profiles and queue sizes. It was not until 1972 that the modern oboe achieved a formally established professional presence in Costa Rica. This does not suggest that the instrument was absent from the country prior to this date; rather, its professional consolidation occurred with the arrival of two foreign oboists (Claudio Bondy and David Busch) and whose activities marked the beginning of systematic performance, pedagogy, and institutional continuity. As a result, the professional history of the oboe in Costa Rica has been established for only a few decades.
