The role of the cohesin complex depends on the cohesin loader proteins NIPBL and MAU2. While NIPBL variants are a major cause of Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), the role of MAU2 in disease is unclear. We describe 18 individuals carrying 15 heterozygous MAU2 variants and demonstrate pathogenicity through functional analyses. In-frame MAU2 variants predominantly impair NIPBL-MAU2 interaction, whereas truncating variants cause MAU2 haploinsufficiency and lead to NIPBL reduction. Most individuals exhibit a DNA methylation profile compatible with the CdLS episignature. We also describe two MAU2-specific episignatures that reflect variant-dependent molecular consequences. Brooklyn Law Review

The Supreme Court’s 2024 decision in NRA v. Vullo found a plausible First Amendment violation by a state regulator for allegedly coercing private entities to cease business with the NRA. While the Court portrayed its decision as merely applying longstanding precedent, the facts of the case were quite different from the cases on which the Court relied, especially related to Vullo’s responsibilities as a regulator of the financial sector. This Article argues that the Court’s decision was misguided. Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly crept into nearly all aspects of life, including in government, the criminal justice system, and policing. While Supreme Court Due Process jurisprudence has outlined certain boundaries for police interrogations, much police conduct is left for the states to regulate. Such regulation is sporadic and less restrictive than the public might assume, especially in the realm of police deception. Across jurisdictions, courts allow police to deceptively inform suspects that a witness identified the suspect of the perpetrator of a crime. There is little question that the First Amendment protects a wide range of expressive activity, including symbolic conduct and, in some cases, anonymous speech. At the same time, anti-mask legislation, which sometimes prevents individuals from concealing their identity during public demonstrations, has a long history in the United States. Much of this history is rooted in efforts to curtail Ku Klux Klan violence and intimidation. Yet, many of those anti-mask laws were repealed in the wake of COVID-19, and mask-wearing for identity concealment purposes has become a more common feature of modern political protests. The existence of local religion adherents amidst a majority population is marked by structural and cultural rejection. This condition highlights fundamental issues surrounding freedom of religion and belief in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the experiences of local religion adherents in confronting structural and cultural resistance from an emic perspective, situating local religions within the broader academic discourse on the interaction between local wisdom and global religions. The participants consist of 11 adherents of local religions affiliated with Majelis Luhur Kepercayaan Indonesia (MLKI), an organization that supports followers of local religions and indigenous beliefs throughout Indonesia. The transcription factor Cone-Rod Homeobox (CRX) is a master regulator of photoreceptor cell fate. Sequence variants in CRX can cause Retinitis Pigmentosa, Cone-Rod Dystrophy, and Leber Congenital Amaurosis, all inherited causes of vision loss and blindness. CRX is the only gene implicated in the pathogenesis of all three of these diseases, which present with both rod- and cone-centric phenotypes of varying age of onset and severity. Several CRX variants have been reported to cause severe dominant disease through antimorphic genetic interactions with wild-type CRX, and yet these mutations are adjacent to variants which are benign or only cause mild, recessive …

Acute care hospitals continue to experience financial strain as the healthcare system transitions from fee for service to value-based reimbursement (VBR) models. The purpose of this integrative review was to identify evidence-based financial, clinical, and operational strategies that support hospital adaptation to value-based models while maintaining financial stability and high-quality care. The guiding question focused on determining which strategies reduce financial pressures and improve value-based performance in acute care hospitals. Guided by resource-based theory, this integrative review included 25 empirical and nonempirical studies published between 2019 and 2025 that examined U.S. acute care hospitals. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is widely recognized as a potential game-changer for music-making. However, the direction of these changes and the extent of their impact on the music field will depend on how musicians use AI, which partly hinges on their perceptions of AI and their willingness to engage with it. Debates are ongoing about AI’s impact on creative fields, and we anticipate that musicians’ views on these matters will significantly influence their readiness to incorporate AI into their work. The ongoing national shortage of paramedics presents a critical challenge for emergency medical services (EMS), placing immense pressure on agencies to maintain adequate staffing levels while meeting the growing demand for emergency response. Workforce attrition, increasing call volume, limited access to paramedic education, and high burnout rates have compounded this crisis, threatening the sustainability of EMS operations. This capstone examines strategies to improve paramedic student recruitment, training, and retention, with a focus on utilizing fire stations as satellite training campuses to expand access to education and workforce development.

The State of Hawaiʻi is facing a housing crisis exacerbated by natural disasters and public health emergencies. Hawaiʻi’s legislature seeks to ameliorate Hawaiʻi’s housing crisis with Senate Bill 2919, which gives all counties in Hawaiʻi the broad power to regulate short-term rentals. While this law was adopted with laudable intentions, it has significant shortcomings and will likely not solve Hawaiʻi’s longstanding housing crisis. This Comment argues for an alternative, tax-based solution to address the housing crisis.

Aim: To explore the views of healthcare practitioners in Britain regarding the role of midwives and nurses in the delivery of medical and surgical abortion. Design: An observational study of the Shaping Abortion for Change study healthcare practitioner survey (2021–2022). Methods: Relationships between healthcare practitioner type, participant characteristics, knowledge of and attitudes towards abortion, and views about nurses' and midwives' role in abortion care were examined using Pearson's Chi-squared tests of association and multivariable logistic regression. The question of why humans suffer, if God exists, has persisted across philosophical and theological traditions without resolution. This paper does not approach the problem as one of justification. Instead, it specifies the structural conditions under which suffering arises. The analysis adopts a three-layer model of cognition consisting of a Prior layer, a Core processing layer, and a Modulation layer. The Prior layer supplies constraints that initiate processing but remain inaccessible to it. Under these constraints, cognition begins in a non-neutral state in which one layer is initially foregrounded. When Modulation-layer processing is foregrounded, the condition of translation demands continuation. …

High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is the most common subtype of ovarian cancer, most commonly originating from the epithelium of the fallopian tube. In metastasis of HGSOC cells, there is a particular predilection for the omentum. Metastatic involvement of extraperitoneal lymph nodes, particularly the inguinal region, is rare and may pose a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of an 87-year-old female patient presenting with a right inguinal mass, in whom the pathology of the surgically removed mass confirmed the diagnosis of metastatic HGSOC, requiring oncological follow-up and management. The growing demand for sustainable construction materials has led to increased interest in utilizing agricultural wastes as eco-friendly alternatives. This study examines the potential of Avocado Seeds (AS), Mango Seeds (MS), and Mango Peels (MP) as additives in eco-floor tile production, incorporating them into cement mixtures through a quasi-experimental design. Various proportions of these agricultural by-products, collectively termed as Seeds and Peels Mixtures (SPM) were evaluated for compressive strength, flexural strength, and water absorption. The global demand for renewable energy sources necessitates exploring sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Coffee husks, a significant agricultural waste product, represent a potential feedstock for biofuel production. This study investigated the comparative efficacy of steam distillation and Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction (UAE), using ethanol as a solvent to extract crude extract from Coffea canephora husks. A comparative experiment was conducted using 200g of Coffea canephora husks for each extraction method replicated three times and the yields were measured in mL.
