A Systematic Review Of Mathematical Interpretations Of The Weton Marriage Tradition Within Islamic Cultural Contexts, Ratna Damayanti, Surya Sari Faradiba
Jurnal Pendidikan Sains
This study is grounded in the limited integration of mathematics, culture, and religion within academic discussions of local traditions, particularly the weton marriage calculation practice. It aims to explore the mathematical concepts embedded in weton calculations and to analyse these practices from an Islamic law perspective within an interdisciplinary framework. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method following the six-stage PRISMA 2020 protocol, including the formulation of research questions, development of a search strategy, application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, study selection, quality assessment, and thematic synthesis. Data were collected from Google Scholar and Garuda using the keywords …

Rethinking Poverty Indices: Unveiling The Unseen Realities Of India, Soumyabrata Mondal, Anand Prasad Mishra
Rethinking Poverty Indices: Unveiling The Unseen Realities Of India, Soumyabrata Mondal, Anand Prasad Mishra
The Geographical Bulletin
This article critically assesses India’s recent claims of rapid poverty reduction by examining the methodological, political, and data-related foundations of the Niti Aayog Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). It scrutinises key methodological choices such as indicator selection, weighting structures, and the dependence on NFHS (National Family Health Survey) data which only partially reflect the socioeconomic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on debates surrounding the Alkire–Foster framework, the essay highlights how modifications to the MPI such as the inclusion of widely achieved indicators and the exclusion of consumption expenditure may underestimate deprivation and produce overly optimistic trends. It argues that …
The Dangers Of Social Media In Political Theory, Eden M. Shimanek
The Dangers Of Social Media In Political Theory, Eden M. Shimanek
Global Tides
Increasing political polarization is a prominent feature of the twenty-first-century political landscape, with social media playing a significant role. This essay evaluates social media as a political platform through Hannah Arendt’s notion of the Vita Activa, which describes the political realm and the ideas of totalitarianism. Using this framework, I argue that the surging political use of social media creates digital “echo chambers” that result from the loss of human plurality, which ultimately marks the diverse nature of the political realm. I would continue to argue that these chambers evolve into the notion that Arendt notes as world alienation or …

A Case Against Pragmatic Encroachment, Mahali Kuzyk
Global Tides
In their paper, Evidence, Pragmatics, and Justification Fantl and McGrath offer a seemingly intuitive and attractive route to a revision of what counts as epistemic justification and knowledge. They argue that knowledge is not just a matter of evidence, but depends in part on one’s practical situation. Higher stakes and different utilities can change whether a belief is knowledge-constituting. This essay will argue that Fantl and McGrath’s attempt to use their Knowledge-Action principle (KA) to back pragmatic encroachment ultimately fails.

Representations Of Law And Race Revisited: An Updated Survey Of Recent American Film, Cynthia D. Bond
Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal
This article revisits the author’s Laws of Race/Laws of Representation: The Construction of Race and Law in Contemporary American Film, 11 Univ. Tex. Rev. of Sports and Ent. L. 219 (2010), surveying recent developments in mainstream films’ depiction of the interrelated narratives of law and race. This article applies to current film the 2010 article’s paradigm, which articulated three key narrative aspects of depictions of race and law in popular film: 1.) the raced construction of the lawyer-hero; 2.) the denial or displacement of the law’s role in constructing race and race-based discrimination; and 3.) the suppression or revision of …
