The Adaptive Capacity To Implement Climate Migration Policy In Response To Sea-Level Rise In The Maldives, Kelsey Garrett
The Adaptive Capacity To Implement Climate Migration Policy In Response To Sea-Level Rise In The Maldives, Kelsey Garrett
Capstone Collection
This exploratory study is centered on the increasing harmful impacts of climate change and its connection to human life. The effects are exacerbating the current drivers of migration like livelihoods, security, and politics. People are losing their homes and livelihoods because of drought, rising seas, or increasing natural disasters. Millions of people are. Displaced by climate events every year, the number is expected to increase. Due to this, there is value in studying climate change and migration. Amongst the most vulnerable are those living in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This exploratory study examined the Maldives to understand their adaptive …

The Belt & Road Initiative, The Impact On Kenya By Way Of The Maritime Route., J Lawrence Englert
Capstone Collection
As China gains power and projects itself across the globe, the struggle to control perception of this new power grows. The majority of current literature regarding Diplomacy and International relations pertaining to the Belt and Road Initiative, specifically the maritime route in Kenya is written from either a Western or a Chinese perspective. The existing literature primarily focuses on the effects of MSR infrastructural projects in Kenya and China’s role not only in Kenya but also in the rest of Africa. This research attempts to better understand the effects of China’s role in Kenya, and if China provides a better …
The Federalists Of The Internet? What Online Platforms Can Learn From Reddit’S Decentralized Content Moderation Scheme, Vincent Marrazzo
The Federalists Of The Internet? What Online Platforms Can Learn From Reddit’S Decentralized Content Moderation Scheme, Vincent Marrazzo
Nebraska Law Bulletin (Selected Issues)
As online platforms become the primary carriers of news and information in society, their content moderation policies will have increasing power over users’ daily lives. Centralized moderation is inappropriate and inefficient because it forces all online communities to adhere to the same (and often arbitrary) standards. Decentralized moderation, however, allows most moderation decisions to be made by users who are intimately aware of the contours of individual online communities. Such decisions are less likely to restrict content that is not violative of an online communities’ standards.
This concept of subsidiarity mirrors the arguments made in favor of federalism in which …

Background
The Trichoptera are an important component of freshwater ecosystems. In the Iberian Peninsula, 380 taxa of caddisflies are known, with nearly 1/3 of the total species being endemic in the region. A reference collection of morphologically identified Trichoptera specimens, representing 142 Iberian taxa, was constructed. The InBIO Barcoding Initiative (IBI) Trichoptera 01 dataset contains records of 438 sequenced specimens. The species of this dataset correspond to about 37% of Iberian Trichoptera species diversity. Specimens were collected between 1975 and 2018 and are deposited in the IBI collection at the CIBIO (Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources, Portugal) or …
Analyses Of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Interviews, Alexander J Adams, Matthew Sherman, James J. Purtill
Analyses Of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Interviews, Alexander J Adams, Matthew Sherman, James J. Purtill
Rothman Institute Papers
Interviews are a critical component of orthopaedic surgery residency selection for both the applicant and the program. Some institutions no longer report Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) designation or class rank, and US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 recently switched to pass/fail scoring. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education programs conducted virtual interviews and subinternship rotations were restricted. These changes offer significant challenges to the residency match process. The purpose of this study was to examine the residency applicant interview and ranking process at a large urban academic university setting. We hypothesized …

Marketing & Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
We suggest a new category of “rogue entrepreneurship,” that describes entrepreneurial activity where the core business idea violates established or expert consensus, to be contrasted with “conforming entrepreneurship,” where it does not. There are large entrepreneurial rents hidden behind a bulwark of expert consensus that predicts doom for a venture based upon a rogue and unlikely claim. The “rogue” cases, where the predominant assessment context is different from the entrepreneur’s, result in broad skepticism against the entrepreneurial claim. We explain what rogue entrepreneurship is and how it works.

The Murder Of George Floyd: A Case Study Examining How The Policing Of Black Men And Grassroots Activism Influence The Will Of Black Women To Lead, Ella Gates-Mahmoud
Doctorate in Education
This study's objective investigates the viewpoints held by Black women in two urban areas of Minnesota about the social upheaval that followed the murder of George Floyd in 2020 for using a counterfeit $20 bill. In the last decade, police killings of innocent Black people in the United States have received more attention, and Floyd's death is only one example of this phenomenon. In the U.S., the likelihood of a police officer taking the life of a Black man is higher than that of a White man. Between 2013-2019 there have been 1,641 fatal shootings of defenseless Black men by …

Ccsynergy: An Integrative Deep-Learning Framework Enabling Context-Aware Prediction Of Anti-Cancer Drug Synergy, Sayed-Rzgar Hosseini, Xiaobo Zhou
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Combination therapy is a promising strategy for confronting the complexity of cancer. However, experimental exploration of the vast space of potential drug combinations is costly and unfeasible. Therefore, computational methods for predicting drug synergy are much needed for narrowing down this space, especially when examining new cellular contexts. Here, we thus introduce CCSynergy, a flexible, context aware and integrative deep-learning framework that we have established to unleash the potential of the Chemical Checker extended drug bioactivity profiles for the purpose of drug synergy prediction. We have shown that CCSynergy enables predictions of superior accuracy, remarkable robustness and improved context generalizability …
