Peptide receptor radionucleotide therapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-dotatate is widely used for the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). We analyzed data from 104 patients with NETs treated with 177Lu -dotatate at a US academic center between December 2017 and October 2020 to better understand patterns of long-term efficacy, safety, and toxicity in the real-world setting. 177Lu-dotatate (200 mCi) was administered every eight weeks for four doses. The most common sites of primary disease were small intestine NETs (n = 49, 47%), pancreatic NETs (n = 32, 31%), and lung NETs (n = 7, 7%). Twenty-seven percent had Ki-6720%. The …

Investigations Into The Ant Deterrent Properties Of Asafoetida Ferula Asafoetida And Star Anise Illicium Verum, Chinmayaram K

This study assesses asafoetida and star anise as eco-friendly alternatives to chemical ant deterrents. It involved placing replicates of two bait types, a control (granulated sugar) and a treatment (granulated sugar and spice), on yellow paper substrates at five different ant-infested sites. The efficacy of the spice was evaluated by comparing the ant count on each bait every 10, 40, 60, 120, and 180 minutes. Percentage repellency (PR) was calculated for both the spices, and the data was analysed with the sign test. Codifying Prior Informed Consent To Govern Unregistered Pesticide Export, William Snape Iii

Despite binding international law and congressional authority to the contrary, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to allow U.S. chemical manufacturers to export dangerous and unregistered pesticides to poorer countries through a regulatory loophole that must close. EPA should immediately initiate rule making to require “prior informed consent” (PIC) for the export of pesticides unregistered in the United States under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). PIC is a widely accepted legal concept defined by U.S. domestic statutes and multilateral treaties and agreements.

Emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis, is an invasive pest that significantly impacts olive trees (Olea europaea). This study aimed to assess the role of abiotic stress factors such as drought and salinity in influencing plant defenses and resistance to EAB, while also examining cultivar variation in resistance. The study specifically aimed to address: (1) What effects do varying degrees of abiotic stress (drought, salinity) have on olive trees' antioxidant and peroxidase activity in olive tree? Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have increasingly gained popularity as tools for analyzing graph data in areas like biology, knowledge-graphs, social networks, biology, and recommendation systems. However, their vulnerability to adversarial attacks - small, targeted manipulations of graph structures or node features - raises serious concerns about their reliability in real-world applications. Existing defense strategies, such as adversarial training, edge filtering, low-rank approximations, and randomization-based methods, often suffer from high computational costs, scalability issues, or reduced clean-data performance. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are of great interest recently because some members of this class exhibit human health risks at extremely low levels, making them the current subject of proposed regulation and policy. Treatment of PFAS contaminated wastewater often is performed through adsorptive processes, e.g., with activated carbon. Due to complexities with PFAS laboratory analysis, assessing treatment efficacy through direct measurement of PFAS is expensive and time consuming, potentially delaying the design and implementation of site-specific treatment systems. Eukaryotic SSB, also known as replication protein A (RPA), is a single-stranded DNA binding protein that is highly conserved in eukaryotes. It is essential in multiple cellular functions such as DNA replication, repair, recombination, and cell cycle checkpoint signaling. Studying SSB’s or RPA’s checkpoint functions in cells is challenging due to its crucial role in cell survival. Exploring this possibility, we performed an extensive genetic screening of ssb1, which encodes the largest subunit of RPA, looking for nonlethal mutants that lack the checkpoint function. This screen has identified 25 primary mutants that are sensitive to genotoxins namely HU and MMS. …

The changes in splicing of MDM4 in human melanomagenesis are critical to p53 activity and represent potential therapeutic targets. Genomic characteristics of melanoma and precursor lesions, such as copy number variation and gene expression, have been investigated in detail. However, there has never been a detailed survey of splicing changes that occur during melanomagenesis. Splicing changes can be a very early event in melanoma tumor progression, with characteristic changes in the p53 pathway already in place in early nevi. BACKGROUND: Transgenic (Tg) mice are widely used in biomedical research, and they are typically generated by injecting transgenic DNA cassettes into pronuclei of one-cell stage zygotes. Such animals often show unreliable expression of the transgenic DNA, one of the major reasons for which is random insertion of the transgenes. We previously developed a method called "pronuclear injection-based targeted transgenesis" (PITT), in which DNA constructs are directed to insert at pre-designated genomic loci.
