Navigating The Labyrinth: An Analysis Of Gender Bias In Leadership Development Using Natural Language Processing, Michael Schwendeman

This study employs a multi-trait, multi-method approach to investigate gender bias in leadership development evaluations in an organizational setting by combining traditional quantitative analyses with natural language processing (NLP) methodologies. Specifically, analysis of 360-degree ratings of leader competency revealed a null effect of leader gender on ratings of Agency and Communion when controlling for leader level, leader work region, rater gender, and rater source. These secondary variables, with the exception of rater gender, demonstrated small yet significant effects on competency ratings. Moreover, dictionary-based NLP and structural topic modeling analyses on narrative developmental feedback comments revealed minimal gender differences in feedback …

Assessing The Role Of Kmt2b Knockdown In Rhabdoid Tumorigenesis Utilizing Crispri, Karah Edmonds, Andrea Florian Phd

An aggressive blood cancer commonly observed in pediatric patients, Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL), has a regulatory MLL complex that promotes histone methyltransferation. Modifying histones utilizing histone methyltransferases like KMT2B (MLL2), is essential for gene expression by regulating transcription. Loss of function and inhibition of KMT2B leads to dysregulation of transcription and therefore promotes MLL tumorigenesis. To improve cancer-targeted therapies, we will use CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) to knock down the expression of KMT2B and measure levels of Rhabdoid tumor cell proliferation and apoptosis. Habitat loss due to deforestation is a primary threat to global biodiversity. Clearing tropical rainforests for agriculture leads to forest fragmentation. Forest fragments contain fewer large trees and provide lower food availability for primates compared to continuous forests. Mantled howler monkeys inhabit the increasingly fragmented rainforests of Central and South America and may need to alter their activity and spatial cohesion to mitigate competition and preserve energy in fragments where there is lower quality food. There has been a longstanding tradition to use real human skeletons as educational aids in classrooms (2). The interactive nature of hands-on learning often results in the degradation of these skeletal specimens, and repairs are needed to bring them back to being fully functional. Drawing techniques from one of the few guides to restoring educational classroom skeletons {1) and museum approaches (2, 3, 5), we are able to find a method that works for three human skeletons at Dakota State University.

Coral reefs provide a variety of ecosystem services to humans, but are also degrading due to human activities such as boat anchoring. Understanding why some boaters anchor on coral reef, even when environmentally-responsible alternatives are available, will lead to effective management with substantial environmental benefits. Anchoring on reef could occur intentionally, because boaters prioritize other considerations that outweigh any desire to not anchor on reef, or unintentionally, because they lack true awareness of the bottom type. The current study identified the association between substances and the perpetration and victimization of physical and psychological IPV. Due to limited data collected, the research questions were modified to specifically examine alcohol and cannabis use rather than various substances. Thus, the following questions were examined: (1) How are cannabis and alcohol use related to perpetration and victimization of physical IPV among adolescent females? and (2) How are cannabis and alcohol use related to perpetration and victimization of psychological IPV among adolescent females? Coastal ecosystems are degrading rapidly, and molecular analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA) has become an increasingly popular method to quantify changes in biodiversity, and as a powerful and affordable complement to monitor aquatic environments. Yet, side by side comparisons of biodiversity estimates from eDNA and other traditional methods are needed to understand the level of accuracy of the eDNA method. We used eDNA metabarcoding of the 12S mitochondrial gene to generate a multi-species fish biodiversity assessment of Narragansett Bay (NB). The present study tested whether total lifetime exposure to violence and exposure as a witness and victim were associated with externalizing behavior concurrently and one-year later in a sample of pubertal-aged youth. Participants included 125 youth (n = 68 girls) who were recruited from small cities and rural communities (Susman et al. 2007). Girls were ages 8, 10, or 12 years old (M = 10.09 years, SD = 1.64) and boys were ages 9, 11, or 13 years old (M = 10.94 years, SD = 1.61). Youth were predominantly Caucasian or White and non-Hispanic (89.5%), but the sample also included …

Introduction: The primary objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of a 6-week internet-delivered Mantram Repetition Program (MRP) for women recently treated for breast cancer. A secondary objective explored changes in perceived stress, psycho-spiritual measures, and cytokines in the treatment group compared to a waitlist. Methods: A feasibility study (ORBIT model Phase IIa) with a randomized controlled trial pilot was conducted. Eligible women recently treated for breast cancer were randomized to the treatment group (n = 14) or a waitlist group (n = 12) and participated for 12 weeks. Current understandings of epigenetics offer some insights into the developmental origins of character virtues. Research on epigenetics has demonstrated that phenotypes depend on both genomic and non-genomic information for their development, and such is true for the development of character virtues as well. This conclusion offers significant support for the Developmental Systems perspective. Although researchers have not yet studied the role of molecular epigenetic factors in the development of character, the field of behavioral epigenetics has revealed how such factors contribute to psychological and other behavioral phenotypes in general. Klebsiella pneumoniae (KLP) is a Gram-negative pathogen that can be highly antibiotic-resistant. Our group has worked with gallium-based compounds as a means of treating bacterial infections. Here the possible mechanism is investigated for dual therapy comprised of gallium nitrate (Ga(NO₃)₃) and gallium protoporphyrin (GaPP) on KLP. It is found that in vitro the combination of Ga(NO₃)₃ and GaPP is synergistic against KLP. The in vivo efficacy is of the dual therapy is additionally tested by treating pulmonary KLP infections in mice. Much greater effectiveness are observed in bacterial clearance and survival of mice …
