Freshwater gastropods are important indicators of ecosystem health. Many native gastropod species are considered highly imperiled while other non-indigenous species are considered damaging invaders. Campeloma decisum, Pointed Campeloma, is a common freshwater gastropod from family Viviparidae found in varied habitats across the eastern United States and southeastern Canada. Our study sought to increase the knowledge on C. decisumusing geometric morphometric analyses to test which environmental factors may be driving shell shape variation. The purpose of this paper is to historicize contemporary gendered legal practices in the People’s Republic of China and to demonstrate that, despite rhetoric to the contrary, paternalistic assumptions rooted in Confucianism still inform the treatment of female prisoners today. Though China underwent massive political and economic shifts after the formation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 and the death of Mao Zedong in 1976, certain longstanding societal principles were preserved in modern China, including long-held paternalistic stereotypes about the physical and mental fragility of women. Two new monotypic buthid genera are described: Sanaag gen. n. and Sahil gen. n. from Somaliland, both belonging to the ‘Buthus’ group. Sanaag gen. n. (type species Gint maidensis Kovařík et al., 2018) differs from Gint Kovařík et al., 2013 in the structure of its hemispermatophore, which has a large, tall, subtriangular hook-like basal lobe, and in the shape of its telson which is rather bulbous. The sagebrush steppe is a unique ecosystem facing a number of threats to its native flora and fauna. Restoration efforts to counteract the effects of wildfires, invasive species, and anthropogenic disturbances are widespread, but success rates vary. A. tridentata, a keystone species of sagebrush, is the focus of numerous reseeding efforts. Unfortunately, many of the scattered seeds never germinate.

Little is known about how pathogenic fungi found in the soil might influence sagebrush seed germination rate. We want to know which fungal pathogens reduce A. tridentata seed survival, and how environmental conditions and overwintering influence seed-pathogen interactions.

Sexual dimorphism affects various aspects of physiology, metabolism and longevity. Circadian clock is a master regulator of metabolism. Anti -aging dietary interventions reprogram circadian transcriptome in the liver and other tissues, but little is known about sexual dimorphism of circadian transcriptome. We compared circadian transcriptomes in the liver of male and female mice on ad libitum (AL) and 30% caloric restriction (CR) diets. We found that AL female mice had a larger number of oscillating genes than male mice, and the portion of the transcriptome with sex -specific rhythms displayed phase difference. Recent analyses of salvage therapies for recurrence suggest that reirradiation may improve survival. A possible adverse effect is radiation-induced neurocognitive decline. Invasive grasses, such as cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum), compete with native plants and are a hazardous fuel source for wildfires that degrade sagebrush steppe ecosystems. Beginning in July 2022, in partnership with sheep producers and with the Sawtooth National Forest, we began conducting an experiment investigating if and how targeted grazing with sheep can be used for cheatgrass suppression. Targeted grazing is a regulated practice in which sheep herders guide sheep through designated plots with high cheatgrass abundance, at a higher grazing intensity, and at different seasonal timings than their traditional summer grazing practices. Multiplexed assays of variant effect (MAVEs) have emerged as a powerful approach for interrogating thousands of genetic variants in a single experiment. The flexibility and widespread adoption of these techniques across diverse disciplines have led to a heterogeneous mix of data formats and descriptions, which complicates the downstream use of the resulting datasets. To address these issues and promote reproducibility and reuse of MAVE data, we define a set of minimum information standards for MAVE data and metadata and outline a controlled vocabulary aligned with established biomedical ontologies for describing these experimental designs.

But plaintiffs have struggled to articulate privacy harms associated with data collection in a way that would give them standing to sue. This is a particularly pressing issue given the advances in generative AI and the unauthorized uses of individuals’ personal and biometric data.

As patterns of precipitation and evapotranspiration change, human water security and aquatic ecosystem health depend on understanding how catchment characteristics interact with climate to control river flow. We tested factors that mediate sensitivity of river flow to fluctuations in climate using a set of 1,148 data-rich, climate diverse catchments in various parts of the world from 2001-2020. We extrapolated these results to an additional 2,012 catchments with sparser data. Using features such as vegetation, land use, hydrology, and local climate, we found that catchments with high aridity to runoff ratios (Fuh's parameter) had 380% higher runoff sensitivity to fluctuations in …

Although recent Christian theologians have offered wisdom for including same-sex attracted believers in the church and for combating prevailing secular worldviews, evangelistic strategies to reach gay unbelievers remain underdeveloped. Columbian Sharp-tailed Grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus columbianus; hereafter CSTG) were once widespread in shrub-steppe ecosystems in western North America, but have been in decline due to habitat loss from anthropogenic impact (i.e. climate change, invasive species, human development). CSTG are estimated to occupy only 5-10% of their former range, and are the rarest of the Sharp-tailed Grouse subspecies. While management efforts are in place to conserve this subspecies (i.e. translocations), knowledge gaps may be impeding success. Supporting healthy pregnancy outcomes requires a comprehensive understanding of the molecular and cellular programs of peri-implantation development, when most pregnancy failure occurs. Here, we present single-cell transcriptomes of bovine peri-implantation embryo development at day 12, 14, 16, and 18 post-fertilization. We defined the cellular composition and gene expression of embryonic disc, hypoblast, and trophoblast lineages in bovine peri-implantation embryos, and identified markers and pathway signaling that represent distinct stages of bovine peri-implantation lineages; the expression of selected markers was validated in peri-implantation embryos. The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of insecurity and adverse sexual experiences in romantic relationships from the perspective of those with autism diagnoses, those who suspect they have autism, and those with autistic traits, as well as determine potential mediating and moderating factors.
