This review presents an overview of their structure, development methods, advantages, possible challenges, and applications with special emphasis on infectious diseases-related ones. A showcase of how nanobodies can be harnessed for applications including neutralization of viruses and combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria …

The Exploration Of Latino Bip Participants' Experiences Of Oppression And Expressions Of Critical Consciousness, Adrian Luis Manriquez May 2024

The Exploration Of Latino Bip Participants' Experiences Of Oppression And Expressions Of Critical Consciousness, Adrian Luis Manriquez

Dissertations and Theses

According to Freire (1970), individuals and groups who are systemically oppressed in society often develop and struggle with a sense of internalized oppression, and those who fail to address their own oppression will likely engage in the oppression of others. Conceivably, this is the state of affairs for Latino males who perpetrate intimate partner violence (IPV). However, Latinos who use IPV behaviors are often viewed solely as "villains" or oppressors (Corvo & Johnson, 2003), omitting the various contexts in which this subgroup of males might be subjected to oppressive conditions outside of their intimate relationships. This contributes to an absence …

A Rechargeable Metal-Co2 Battery Using Lower-Cost Materials, Chris Fetrow

Nanoscience and Microsystems ETDs

High energy density, low-cost chemical conversion batteries are widely studied for their potential application to applications in which current battery technologies are unsuitable replacements for fossil fuel-powered systems. The demonstration of rechargeable chemical conversion batteries, and particularly batteries without the fatal flaw of high overpotential due to the difficulties inherent to chemical conversion reactions, is of great interest to further both this aim. In this work, a secondary Al-CO2 battery was demonstrated using a homogeneous aluminum iodide redox mediator to enable the battery’s discharge and charge at a high energy density and a low overpotential of 0.05 Volts. The operation …

Age-Specific Induction Of Mutant P53 Drives Clonal Hematopoiesis And Acute Myeloid Leukemia In Adult Mice, Rasoul Pourebrahim, Rafael Heinz Montoya, Hiroki Akiyama, Lauren Ostermann, Shayuan Khazaei, Muharrem Muftuoglu, Natalia Baran, Ran Zhao, Tom Lesluyes, Bin Liu, Joseph D Khoury, Mihai Gagea, Peter Van Loo, Michael Andreeff

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

The investigation of the mechanisms behind p53 mutations in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has been limited by the lack of suitable mouse models, which historically have resulted in lymphoma rather than leukemia. This study introduces two new AML mouse models. One model induces mutant p53 and Mdm2 haploinsufficiency in early development, showing the role of Mdm2 in myeloid-biased hematopoiesis and AML predisposition, independent of p53. The second model mimics clonal hematopoiesis by inducing mutant p53 in adult hematopoietic stem cells, demonstrating that the timing of p53 mutation determines AML vs. lymphoma development. In this context, age-related changes in hematopoietic stem …
