A Dysphemistic Approach To The Study Of Textual Cyberbullying In Social Media, Duaa Ali Hassan
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Abstract
The current study is a dysphemistic approach to the study of textual cyberbullying in social media. Cyberbullying became, to an extent, widespread in social media interaction. The study aims at analyzing a sample of 6oo facebook comments taken from different news agencies and websites. The study believes that cyberbullying is used in order to reach certain end. The sample of the study consists of comments for six different topics. And 100 comments were taken for each of the six topics. The model of the study is Allan and Burridge's (1991) which classifies dysphemism into eight types. The process of …
Legal Education And The Threat Response, Jane Mitchell
Legal Education And The Threat Response, Jane Mitchell
The Journal of Law Teaching and Learning
Law students struggle with disproportionately high rates of depression, anxiety, addiction, and disconnection. This paper offers a novel explanation for these negative outcomes that thus far has been absent from conversations on the subject: Law schools fuel students’ sense of threat. According to psychology’s well-established cognitive appraisal model, students “appraise” stressful situations as either challenging or threatening. Educational environments appraised as threatening consistently lead to negative outcomes—lower student performance, decreased student engagement, and increased anxiety. Situations appraised as challenging lead to positive outcomes—improved academic performance, increased participation, and better overall health.
Law schools facilitate students’ threat response rather than a …

An Empirical Study Of The Relationship Between Metacognitive Skills, Performance In A Bar Prep Course And Bar Passage, Jennifer A. Gundlach, Jessica R. Santangelo
The Journal of Law Teaching and Learning
This article builds on our prior research about metacognition and its importance for law students’ learning. We hypothesized that given our past findings about the relationship between metacognition and academic performance during the first year of law school, it was possible that metacognition might also play an important role in success with a third-year bar preparation course and/or on the bar exam.
Our current study documents law students’ metacognitive skills during a final-semester bar prep course and examines the relationship between those students’ metacognitive skills and performance in the course and bar passage. We found that students are capable of …
The Title Ix Athletic Regulations And The Ideal Of A Gender-Free Society, Rosalind S. Simson
The Title Ix Athletic Regulations And The Ideal Of A Gender-Free Society, Rosalind S. Simson
Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal
Some philosophers and political theorists have argued that to achieve a just society we must eliminate gender roles. Few would dispute that many of the reductions in the influence of gender over the last fifty or so years have increased justice in the U.S. Whether justice requires that our society become entirely gender-free, however, is more controversial. A common argument for retaining at least some gender roles is that some are natural consequences of biologically determined average physical differences between the sexes. Athletics is one context in which people often make this argument. This article focuses on school athletics and …

Effect Of Selective Head-Neck Cooling Therapy On Specific Brain Biomarkers After Concussive Injury, Mateusz Conrado
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Selective head-neck cooling therapy as novel treatment for concussion has been researched in pilot studies for several years using symptom severity as the primary outcome. As of 2018, brain biomarkers glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L1 (UCH-L1) have been FDA approved as indicators of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This study aims to investigate the effects of selective head-neck cooling therapy on the serum levels of the biomarkers, alongside patient symptom severity, in adults aged 18 years and older with mild Traumatic Brain Injury diagnosed in the last 72 hours. A randomized controlled trial will compare two intervention …
Differentiating Dynamic System Outcomes In Cam Photosynthesis Through Sonification, Duncan Turley
Differentiating Dynamic System Outcomes In Cam Photosynthesis Through Sonification, Duncan Turley
Civil and Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Sonification is a powerful tool that is harnessed by modern engineers to represent information through audio, and is beginning to be used to interpret more complex data sets. Sonification can be used to facilitate the listeners' ability to grasp microscopic or complex changes in the state of a system. This study uses the assigning of sound patterns to model outputs that indicate chaotic or non-chaotic systems in Crassulacean acid metabolism photosynthesis. Using sound allows the interpretation of chaotic data without the more time intensive processes typically used, such as of Fast Fourier Transformations. Based on past research, it is known …

Crystallographic Analysis Of The Dorsal Spine Of Squalus Suckleyi, John V. Karavitis
Crystallographic Analysis Of The Dorsal Spine Of Squalus Suckleyi, John V. Karavitis
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
The dorsal spine of the spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias, has been used for age determination of individual specimens since the 1930s. Scientific literature regarding the dorsal spine has to date always referred to it as having an enamel exterior, with a dentin interior surrounding a central pulp cavity. This is similar to the structure observed in a human tooth.
The dorsal spine is composed of cartilage-based tissue that contains bioapatite. Bioapatite is a mixture of hydroxyapatite, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 (a calcium salt of phosphoric acid), and other biological material, e.g. calcium carbonate, CaCO3 …

Assessment Of Georgia’S Royal Catchfly (Silene Regia) Along A Forest-Edge Gradient In A Remnant Prairie Community, Megan Brooks
Master's Theses
Royal catchfly (Silene regia) is a perennial prairie forb known to grow in rocky, alkaline soils within tallgrass prairies of the eastern United States. S. regia is recorded from twelve states, including Georgia, and is now confined to fragmented habitats due to the loss of 95% of its natural environment. The species is now listed as critically imperiled in the state of Georgia. Attempts at reintroduction via outplanting have only shown limited success, necessitating more research on the environmental conditions in which this plant survives in its southern-most distribution. This study investigated the local ecological factors influencing the …

Optimization Using Central Composite Design For Continuous Absorption Of Co2 Gas With Green Sodium Silicate In A Packed Bed Column, Dalia A. Ali Eng, Mohamed Essam Ibrahim Eng.
Chemical Engineering
If absolutely nothing is taken to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide will rise to 550 parts per million by 2050, which will have disastrous effects on the world's climate and food production. An apparatus has been designed and setup to convert CO2 into a useful and vital product which was silica. The effect of different experimental factors on the compositions by weight percent of SiO2 and Na2CO3 were studied including the CO2 gas flow rate (1.037, 1.648 and 2.26 L/min), initial concentration of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) solution (5, 7.5 and 10 %wt) and the packing …

Retinoblastoma, which is an ocular malignancy, usually results in poor prognoses in pediatric patients worldwide. Retinoblastoma in some events, can develop metastatic phenotypes which can lead to secondary tumor formation, furthering deleterious patient outcomes. It is of paramount importance to identify and research potent novel compounds that can be used to increase the likelihood of remission. Plumbagin (PLB) is a plant-derived, neuroprotective agent, which exhibits significant anticancer activities during in vitro study. PLB has been shown to have a high therapeutic efficacy against chemoresistant sublines as well as their normal counterparts. We attempted to show that the chemoresistant ABCC1 could …
"It Hurts Me To Say": Preservice Teachers' Use And Disapproval Of Deficit Discourse In Urban Schools, Sherridon Sweeney, Brian Flores
"It Hurts Me To Say": Preservice Teachers' Use And Disapproval Of Deficit Discourse In Urban Schools, Sherridon Sweeney, Brian Flores
Journal of Research Initiatives
Extensive research examines the development and impact of deficit discourse in schools. However, more research needs to be needed to explore how preservice teachers use this language during their preparation. Therefore, our qualitative study explored how deficit discourse became part of five preservice teachers' vernacular when speaking about children and teaching. Findings suggest participants (a) Relied on reductive labels to describe children, (b) attributed their use of these labels to their exposure to them during their practicum, and (c) demonstrated both cognitive dissonance and silent resistance toward deficit language. Implications are for teacher educators and school leaders.

Global Best Practices In Education: A Conceptual Definition And Criticisms, Vincent Chidindu Asogwa
Global Best Practices In Education: A Conceptual Definition And Criticisms, Vincent Chidindu Asogwa
Journal of Research Initiatives
The "Global Best Practices" concept is subjective and varies from many perspectives based on the indicators used. As such, there needs to be a standardized and universally accepted definition of global best practices in education, which hinders the effective identification, adoption, and benchmarking of these practices across countries and educational institutions. This ambiguity challenges teachers, students, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners seeking to understand and apply global educational best practices. Hence, this explorative study investigated the conceptual definition and criticisms surrounding the concept of global best practices in education. A narrative literature review methodology was employed to systematically search, select, and …

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications
Clinical translation of nanoparticle-based therapeutics has been limited, and a lack of preclinical delivery characterization is partly to blame, limiting our understanding of the mechanisms of failure. The improvement of the preclinical delivery assessment requires nanoparticles with higher detectability. This work focused on the exploration of several aromatic carboxylic ligands (terephthalic acid, quinaldic acid, and kynurenic acid) for the sensitization of europium oxide nanoparticles with a long emission lifetime to overcome cellular autofluorescence, a key confounder of detection in luminescence-based bioimaging. A facile one-pot synthesis and ligand exchange process generated and sensitized ultrasmall Eu2O3 cores. As reflected …

Social Support As A Moderator Of Life Stress And Alcohol Consumption, Paige Patano
Social Support As A Moderator Of Life Stress And Alcohol Consumption, Paige Patano
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
Heavy alcohol use in emerging adults has several consequences, including increased risk-taking behaviors, cognitive deficits, and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Thus, it is important to understand risk factors and protective factors to heavy drinking. Experiencing life stressors may be associated with higher alcohol use in emerging adults, especially for historically marginalized populations. General social support, which may mitigate the impact of life stressors, tends to be a protective factor against drinking, although the literature is mixed on which types of relationships are considered protective. Between the support of family, friends, and significant others, it is unclear which relationships are associated …
