Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) in normal tissue and feline mammary carcinomas. Thirty feline mammary carcinomas (FMCs) and eight normal mammary tissues were used in this study. In the same FMC cats, tissues were collected from 2 regions which are the neoplastic tissue and the adjacent non-neoplastic tissues. The study was composed of three parts: (1) clinical data collection and histopathological diagnosis; (2) Immunohistochemistry (IHC) evaluation of PPARα, Ki-67, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA); and (3) Western blot analysis of PPARα isoforms. The results revealed no significant differences in PPARα …
Diagnostic Approaches And Therapeutic Evaluation In Canine Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: An Integrated Analysis Of Prostatic Volume, Serum Canine Prostatic Specific Esterase (Cpse) Levels, And Proteomic Profiles, Panthipa Borikappakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a highly prevalent condition in intact male dogs. However, its diagnosis and clinical management remain limited by the lack of clear thresholds for clinically significant prostatic enlargement, insufficient biomarkers to monitor treatment response, and an incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving disease progression. To address these gaps, this thesis integrated ultrasonographic, biochemical, and proteomic approaches across three complementary studies. First, the actual to expected normal prostatic volume ratio was evaluated to establish a clinically meaningful cutoff distinguishing subclinical from clinical BPH, providing an imaging-based indicator for early recognition of clinically relevant enlargement. Building on …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Solid waste disposal sites (SWS) at forest edges represent critical zoonotic transmission hotspots where wildlife, domestic animals, and humans converge. This study characterized host community structure, pathogen circulation, and network topology at SWS adjacent to the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, Thailand. Three study phases (2021-2023) comprised: (1) camera trapping at five SWS (3,907 trap-nights); (2) small mammal trapping across four habitats (1,420 individuals, 12 species), ectoparasite collection (20,560 chiggers, 14 species), and molecular pathogen detection; and (3) network analysis of connectivity among habitat, host, chigger, and pathogen. Domestic dogs dominated communities (88.3%), creating simplified assemblages. Potential transmission operated through …

Optimization Of Artificial Insemination In Swine Through Gnrh Agonist Application In Boar Semen With Special Emphasis On Epithelial Penetration And Pharmacokinetics, Preechaphon Taechamaeteekul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Induction of ovulation in pigs is a widely applied technique in commercial swine farms, using hormonal treatments to improve reproductive efficiency and productivity. The GnRH agonist buserelin acetate is widely used to induce ovulation and can be administered via intramuscular or intravaginal routes. However, the success of ovulation induction via the intravaginal route still depends on several factors, and information regarding the pharmacokinetics and tissue permeation of buserelin remains limited. This thesis aimed to investigate the pharmacokinetic profile, endometrial permeability, and reproductive effects of buserelin to develop an effective and practical ovulation control strategy for commercial swine production. This thesis …

Genomic Characterization Of Streptococcus Agalactiae And Streptococcus Suis Isolated From Diseased Snakeskin Gourami (Trichopodus Pectoralis), Surawit Chueahiran
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates severe, recurrent mortality outbreaks in farmed snakeskin gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis) in central Thailand between 2021 and 2023. Characterized by exophthalmos and systemic hemorrhage, these incidents prompted an investigation to identify causative agents, assess antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and explore genomic adaptation. Bacterial isolates from moribund fish in Samut Sakhon province were identified via MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rRNA sequencing, followed by whole-genome sequencing (Illumina HiSeq) and comparative pan-genomic analysis. Two primary pathogens, Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus suis, were confirmed as causative agents of acute bacterial septicemia, occurring in both single and co-infections. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that S. suis …

Expression Patterns Of Alpha-Fetoprotein And Phosphodiesterase 4d In Canine Mammary Tumors, Thi Kieu Trinh Mai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Canine mammary tumors (CMTs) represent one of the most common neoplasms in female dogs, with a substantial proportion exhibiting malignant behavior and aggressive progression. Despite their clinical importance and relevance to comparative oncology, the molecular mechanisms underlying CMT development remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to evaluate the expression patterns of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and phosphodiesterase 4D (PDE4D) in canine mammary tissues, and to investigate their correlations with Ki-67, a standard marker of cell proliferation. A total of 50 dogs were included in this study (40 diagnosed with CMTs and 10 without CMTs), yielding 90 FFPE tissue samples for protein analysis …
The Representation Of The Lgbtq2+ Community In The Context Of Pride Month In Thai Online Media From 2022 To 2025, Julia Borawska
The Representation Of The Lgbtq2+ Community In The Context Of Pride Month In Thai Online Media From 2022 To 2025, Julia Borawska
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis examines the representation of Thai Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community in Thai online media between 2022 and 2025. It provides a comprehensive analysis of content featured on both individual- and organization-based media, distinguishing between social media and mainstream news outlets. Within the social media sphere, the study further differentiates between influential Thai celebrities—particularly actors and actresses involved in queer-portraying productions—and organizational entities involved in LGBTQ+ advocacy as well as BL/GL production companies. The first two groups rarely feature queer-related content or express explicit support for Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community, choosing to engage only when personally …

Investigation Of Lipid Binding Regions In Phospholipase (Ves A 1) From Vespa Venom By Computational Study, Nawanwat Chainuwong Pattaranggoon
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigated the structural behavior, membrane adhesion mechanism, and inhibition mechanism of Ves a 1, the primary phospholipase A1 enzyme from the venom of the Thai banded tiger wasp (\textit{Vespa affinis}). The main objective was to discover an inhibitor for Ves a 1 from this species. From a database of 2,056 FDA-approved drugs, voxilaprevir was found to bind well to the main catalytic site of Ves a 1, exhibiting a binding free energy (Delta GBindSIE) of approximately -11 to -10 kcal/mol, whereas DMPC, used as a positive control, had a binding energy of approximately -9 to -7 kcal/mol. Analysis …
Synthesis Of Fes2 And Fes2-Mns2 Composite Nanostructured Photocatalysts For Dye Degradation, Septian Budiman
Synthesis Of Fes2 And Fes2-Mns2 Composite Nanostructured Photocatalysts For Dye Degradation, Septian Budiman
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research addresses the environmental challenge of synthetic dye pollution by developing and evaluating novel photocatalysts. Iron pyrite (FeS2), an abundant and low-cost semiconductor, is a promising candidate for photocatalysis, but its practical application is severely limited by its high instability and susceptibility to photocorrosion under light irradiation. To overcome this limitation, this study investigates the synthesis of bare FeS2 nanoparticles and their modification with MnS2. FeS2 nanoparticles were first synthesized via a hydrothermal method at 180°C, using FeSO4·7H2O and Na2S2O3·5H2O precursors. Subsequently, a FeS2-MnS2 material was synthesized using a facile reflux method, with optimal conditions identified as 3 hours …

Evaluation Of Leptospirosis Vaccine Efficacy After Modifications Of N-Linked Glycosylation In Liga Mrna Vaccines., Rampapat Phaetthayanan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Leptospirosis, caused by pathogenic Leptospira species, is a widespread zoonotic disease, particularly prevalent in developing countries in tropical areas. Commercially available bacterins have several limitations. A previous study developed a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine encoding the carboxy-terminal domain 7-13 of LigA (LigAc) that was expressed with glycosylation in mammalian cells and elicited high humoral immune response in a hamster model but failed to provide protection against lethal challenge. To improve the protective efficacy, this study aimed to develop LigAc-mRNA vaccines with minimal glycosylation. Three mRNA constructs were developed based on two strategies: modifying the potential N-glycosylation sites (from asparagine to …

Rational Decision-Making Model: Ap Micro, Ar Macro, A-Level Economics, And Ib Economics, Nasiwat Thanathitiphuwaphat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Should students take high school economics? They face choices among Advanced Placement (AP), Advanced Level (AL), and International Baccalaureate (IB) Economics programs, which are equivalent to college-level economics coursework. While students value their initial exposure to economics, whether high school economics provides optimal utility remains uncertain. We employ a rational decision-making model to guide students in choosing an appropriate economics education. We emphasize the importance of achieving high grade, as AP, AL, or IB Economics can enhance college admission prospects, improve the economics learning experience, and allow for credit transfer. Students must first identify exam availability and financial constraints before …

Efficient Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Via Novel Syntheses Of Srtio₃/G-C₃N₄ Heterojunction Photocatalysts, Chiramet Thatsanakunlaphan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Strontium titanate/graphitic carbon nitride (SrTiO3/g-C3N4) heterojunctions are widely used as photocatalysts. However, traditional multistep synthesis methods for these photocatalysts often involve complexity, long processing times, and high energy consumption. To address these issues, a systematic comparison of various simplified synthesis approaches was conducted, emphasizing the influence of synthesis parameters on the structural properties and hydrogen evolution performance. Six comparative studies were conducted to illustrate the roles of solvent choice, thermal post-treatment, and synthesis route. Results showed that ethylene glycol consistently produced more active photocatalysts than ethanol in both one-pot and two-step solvothermal methods. Non-calcined samples exhibited superior hydrogen evolution activity …

Suppressing Bromine Volatilization In Anthraquinone–Bromine Flow Batteries Using A Low-Cost Quaternary-Ammonium Complexing Agent, Prapassorn Areebumrungsuk
Suppressing Bromine Volatilization In Anthraquinone–Bromine Flow Batteries Using A Low-Cost Quaternary-Ammonium Complexing Agent, Prapassorn Areebumrungsuk
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The deployment of anthraquinone-bromine redox flow batteries (AQBFBs) is hindered by the volatilization and corrosiveness of bromine (Br2), which elevates safety risks, causes active species loss, and reduces Coulombic Efficiency (CE). This study investigates the use of the low-cost additive 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (CHA) as a bromine-complexing agent to mitigate these issues. The CHA additive utilizes a quaternary ammonium group to electrostatically associate with bromine and polybromide species, forming stable CHA-Brn complexes. Simultaneously, its hydroxyl functionality enhances solubility in the aqueous electrolyte, which promoted the self-recovery of this oil phase to the aqueous phase and, in turn, suppresses bromine vapor pressure …
