Synthesis And Structure Characterization Of Novel Lanthanide (Iii) – Cyclen Complexes Bearing Phenolate Arms, Lily G. Ortte

1,4,7,10-Tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) and its derivatives play a critical role in biomedical applications, particularly in medical imaging and the synthesis of stable metal complexes. This study focuses on the synthesis and structural characterization of novel cyclen-based tetraphenolate derivatives and their corresponding lanthanide(III) complexes. Cyclen was synthesized via a single-pot process involving the reaction of triethylenetetramine with glyoxal, followed by alkylation with a 1,2-difunctionalized alkylating agent. The resulting compounds were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, including IR, 1 H-NMR, and ESI-MS, as well as single X-ray crystallography. Understanding the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities in vulnerable school districts prompted this scholarly policy review of the federal underfunding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Through discussion of the historical approach to educating students with disabilities that necessitated the passage of IDEA, to IDEA becoming a reality in theory but not in practice across the span of five decades is at the core of this policy impact report. Data informed research is discussed that points to the intersectionality of poverty and overidentification for special education services, while funding continues to lag from the federal government. …

In 2020, alongside the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic, 209,338 births occurred in New York State (Osterman et al., 2022). While much of the public adjusted to working or learning in a virtual world, many hospitals in New York remained open to treat those in need of care. Women nearing the end of their pregnancy, many of whom felt that they had no other choice, found themselves headed to the hospital—to the labor and delivery unit. Many transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals have contraceptive needs. Contraceptive counseling in this population is often nuanced due to the diverse experiences and healthcare goals of TGD individuals. Testosterone therapy is an important component of gender affirming care for some transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals. A common misconception among patients and providers is the role of testosterone in pregnancy prevention. Testosterone is not an effective form of contraception due to its inconsistent suppression of ovulation. AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) is a critical energy sensor and regulates tissue energy and substrate metabolism. Our lab has previously shown that atrial cardiomyocyte-specific cardiac AMPK deletion induces electrophysiologic changes, left atria structural remodeling and spontaneous AF. Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) and its homolog D-dopachrome Tautomerase (DDT) are pro-inflammatory cytokines implicated in tumor progression across multiple cancers. Both MIF and DDT act through canonical CD74 and non-canonical CXCR2/4/7 signaling pathways, which contribute to immune suppression and tumor progression. Elevated MIF levels are associated with metastasis and poor prognosis in HNC and contribute to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) resistance in melanoma. DDT’s role in cancer is not well understood. Background: Atopic dermatitis has been associated with psychiatric comorbidities.Objectives: To characterize the association between atopic dermatitis and bipolar disorder with a case-control study of the NIH All of Us Research Program. Methods: Utilizing Systemized Nomenclature of Medicine diagnostic codes, we identified cases of atopic dermatitis. Four age, sex, and race/ethnicity matched controls were found for each case using propensity score matching. After controlling for age, sex, race/ethnicity, income, smoking status, and depression, the relationship between atopic dermatitis and bipolar disorder was evaluated using logistic regression. Objectives: Endoscopic–assisted surgery combined with the operating microscope has been described for several surgical techniques and pathologies of the cerebellopontine angle (CPA). The use of an endoscope allows for a panoramic view of the CPA cistern and a high degree of maneuverability in narrow cisternal spaces that enable the surgeon to deal with most CPA lesions safely. Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease, utilizes a Type IV secretion system (T4SS) to transport effector proteins into host cells. This bacterium is said to have over 300 effector proteins. Among these, the Ceg10 effector protein had remained uncharacterized, despite evidence suggesting the importance of bacterial effector proteins in the host-pathogen interaction. This study aimed to perform a structural and functional characterization of Ceg10 through transcriptomic, bioinformatics, and molecular analyses. Transcriptomic profiling of HEK 293T cells expressing Ceg10 revealed significant differential gene expression, with approximately 20 upregulated genes, including leucine-rich repeat, as well as other downregulated genes. …

This study used an improvement science framework to influence special education teachers’ behaviors and their implementation of transition service development through person centered planning and ongoing teacher support. Grounded in adaptive leadership principles and a theory of action emphasizing the need for new professional learning and sustained support, this research investigated how targeted interventions impact teacher practice.

Workplace incivility is ubiquitous, regularly impacting working adults. Through the framework of Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, I examined the relationship between workplace incivility and resource depletion using daily diary methodology. Workplace incivility negatively impacts employee outcomes at the organizational and individual level. As such, it was hypothesized that workplace incivility would have a positive correlation with increased resource depletion, measured as psychological fatigue. Under selective incivility theory, disenfranchised groups face increased instances of incivility. Following this theory, non-whites were hypothesized to experience a greater association between workplace incivility and resource depletion. This investigation contributes to the ongoing exploration of spider beetle diversity in South America by adding records for the recently described Cordielytrum and the yet to be described Furcillifer, as well as constructing phylogenies with new genetic material. Charles "Chuck" Benson, CEO of TechBio Industries, recollected an early Monday morning in March 2019 when he boarded a flight from San Francisco to Philadelphia to meet with the CEO of MedX Supply Chain. During the meeting, MedX requested TechBio to cut prices by 15%, threatening to source their products from a Chinese manufacturer. MedX reasoned that 60% of the market did not care about the quality of disposable lab products. Consequently, TechBio lost most of MedX's contracts, causing their sales to drop from $40 million to $30 million in about a year.

This quasi-experimental trial examined the relationship between Schistosoma haematobium infection and nutritional status, and the impact of single dose praziquantel (PZQ) therapy on undernutrition. A total of 353 children were examined, 112 of which were infected with S. haematobium and treated with PZQ. Children's heights, weights, and mid-upper arm circumferences (MUAC) were measured at baseline and one month post-treatment. Infected children had significantly smaller mean BMI-for-age z-scores (BAZ) (-1.16 vs. 0.11, p < 0.01) and weight-for-age z-scores (WAZ) (-0.61 vs. -0.31, p = 0.03) than the uninfected ones at baseline. Introduction: Common scabies is a parasitic dermatologic condition that often presents as an extremely pruritic rash. A rare and highly contagious variant of common scabies is crusted scabies, formerly known as Norwegian scabies. While infection with common scabies typically involves 10 to 20 mites, individuals with crusted scabies are burdened with thousands to millions of mites. Crusted scabies is characterized clinically by hyperkeratotic papules and plaques, most commonly on the palms and soles. Virginia has an incarceration rate of 679 per 100,000 residents, the highest among independent democratic nations. This scoping review examines perspectives on post-secondary STEM education to promote STEM education within Virginia's correctional facilities, assesses programs to improve rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, and address systemic inequalities by developing the scientific potential of incarcerated individuals. The review finds that while STEM education in correctional facilities faces limitations, its potential benefits are being realized nationwide. Virginia has made strides through initiatives like House Bill 2158, which aims to expand higher education access for incarcerated individuals. Examples such as the programs at J. Sargeant Reynolds …
