The long-term effects that individuals suffer because of childhood sexual abuse may impact their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social health. Treatment providers and helping professionals working with childhood sexual abuse survivors offer a unique insight into the impact of the trauma based on the gender of the survivor. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore integrative treatment providers’ perceptions of treating male versus female adult survivors of sexual abuse. Nonfatal overdose (NFOD) is a critical yet often overlooked aspect of the opioid crisis, significantly contributing to the public health burden of opioid use disorder (OUD). The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between depression severity, anxiety severity, and health insurance type with repeated nonfatal opioid overdoses among individuals with Opioid use Disorder (OUD) in Florida. This study was guided by the biopsychosocial model, which highlights the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors in health outcomes. Objective: Osteoarthritis is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of disability in dogs globally, yet there is currently no treatment that can substantially alleviate the condition. Our study aims to assess the impact of a physiotherapy protocol on dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.

Materials and Methods: Twenty dogs were allocated randomly into either the physiotherapy (PTG) or the control group (CG). First day all dogs received a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injection. However, under various stress conditions, parasites can cause pathological disorders in the gastrointestinal system. The metagenomic bacterial profile of dromedary camel from Algerian Sahara was carried out by exploring 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of the 16S V3-V4 region of bacterial communities of a pregastric (rumen) and post-gastric (caecum) segments in three young camels aged between 2–3 years fed on straw and native vegetation. The generated valid reads were 188,237 and 201,385 for the rumen and caecum respectively, with an average number of OTUs reaching 140 and 170 for the rumen and cecum respectively. The good average ranged from 96.29% to 97.73%. The sequencing analysis revealed 313 bacterial genera distributed in 19 phyla. Taxonomic …

Introduction: The pancreas is surrounded by several critical organs, making it challenging to treat with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). Previous studies have shown that applying biological constraints, such as the generalized equivalent uniform dose (gEUD), to organs at risk (OARs) can effectively reduce the radiation dose to these structures. This study evaluated whether adding a target gEUD constraint to the planning target volume (PTV) would improve target coverage in patients with pancreatic cancer.

GABAA receptors (GABAARs) are the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system. A rich diversity of receptor subtypes are produced by the combination of various GABA receptor subunits into a heteropentameric chloride channel. Inhibitory signaling through GABAARs occurs on timescales ranging from fast synaptic events lasting milliseconds to tonically active receptors providing standing inhibitory tone. GABAARs are modulated by many clinically important drugs including anesthetic, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and antidepressant agents. Of note, GABAARs are modulated by neurosteroids, which have recently been developed as novel therapeutic agents for psychiatric disease. Bipolar disorder is a chronic disorder characterized by mood swings of mania and depression. Bipolar I is characterized by intense mania, while bipolar II is characterized by hypomania and depression. Currently, there is no cure for bipolar disorder; however, one mainstay of treatment is lithium, which is hypothesized to alleviate symptoms by reducing myo-inositol.

In this study, the effect of lithium on intracellular myo-inositol was determined in lymphoblasts derived from bipolar disorder patients and compared to that of lymphoblasts from a neurotypical individual. Bacterial populations exposed to antibiotics often exhibit phenotypic heterogeneity, with individual cells displaying distinct responses with fates ranging from survival to arrest or death. The emergence of this heterogeneity is largely driven by feedback mechanisms mediated by the interactions between antibiotic action, gene regulation, and cellular metabolism. These responses unfold in dynamic environments where conditions such as nutrient availability and drug concentration fluctuate over time and space. Yet, these complex interactions and their role in shaping population-level outcomes during drug responses remain poorly understood. Understanding plant drought responses is crucial for effective afforestation in drylands. This study aimed to investigate the effects of irrigation (31.25 mm seedling–1 every 45 days) on the early survival and growth of 3-month-old Haloxylon ammodendron seedlings at an afforestation site established in Tajikistan in 2021. In July 2022 and June 2023, surveys were conducted to compare seedling survival rates, height, root collar diameter (RCD), stem volume per unit area, and height-to-RCD ratio between irrigation (IR) and nonirrigation (NIR) treatments. The IR treatment increased survival rates in 2022 but not in 2023. By 2023, the IR treatment had increased the …

These fisheries are occasionally subject to events like extreme weather that cause sudden and unexpected losses (NOAA Fisheries, 2024a). Between 2019 and 2023, a series of extreme weather events impacted southcentral Louisiana near Bayou Teche. Background: The Severe Outcome Questionnaire (S-OQ) is a self-report tool whose most recent manual was published in 2008. It measures the treatment progress of the seriously mentally ill (SMI). Standard development theory holds that recovery requires institutions first: courts, fiscal systems, the rule of law. Rwanda in 1994 had none—and rebuilt a state. The state must extract to build capacity, deliver to build legitimacy; when both collapse simultaneously, no entry point remains. Somalia's three-decade failure confirms the trap. Rwanda broke it.

This thesis argues that Rwanda's trajectory is not an exception to the good governance consensus but a refutation of it. Through analytical synthesis of the existing scholarship on four post-genocide institutional mechanisms— gacaca community courts, umuganda collective labor, imihigo performance contracts, and ingando political education camps—the thesis develops …

Our project analyzes honey bee hive development over time. We are specifically looking at drone comb production over a four-week period with varying hive conditions and treatments. It has become more difficult to manage bee hives due to parasitic mites, such as Varroa Destructor. A common method beekeepers use to protect honey bees against these threats is adding drone comb to attract then remove mites. This study investigates the morphological, thermal, mechanical, and bioactive properties of centrifugally spun fibrous composites made from poly(D,L-lactide)/poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PLA/PHB) blends with zinc oxide (ZnO) and hydroxyapatite (Hap) nanoparticles. A 75/25 PLA/PHB weight ratio was chosen to balance mechanical and thermal properties. The precursor solution viscosities ranged from 0.25 to 0.50 Pa s, increasing with nanoparticle incorporation probably due to polymer-nanoparticle interactions. SEM revealed a uniform fibrous morphology, with diameters of 1.21 for PLA/PHB, 2.65 for PLA/ZnO/Hap, and 1.80 μm for PLA/PHB/ZnO/Hap. TGA showed two-step degradation for PLA/PHB fibers, while PLA/PHB/ZnO/Hap degraded in a single step at 249°C, leaving a residue …

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate degenerative and therapeutic changes in intervertebral discs (IVDs) using cyclic microindentation and matrix composition analysis, focusing on the role of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) in altering mechanical and biochemical properties.

Patients and methods: Between March 2023 and October 2023 a total of 11 lumbar spines (T12/L1–L5/S1) from donor sample (5 males, 6 females; mean age of 82.5±10.2 years; range, 63 to 99 years) were included in the study. It will highlight the various methods and techniques employed, discussing their advantages and disadvantages. The paper will also examine the applications of EEG technology in assisting individuals with disabilities, specifically focusing on Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) and assistive device control. By understanding the current state of EEG signal technology, we can identify the opportunities and challenges involved in utilizing this technology to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Protein-protein interactions vary among cell types and the localization of these interactions help to define protein function. The function of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is well established in the context of epithelial tissue due to the debilitating effects of its mutations that cause the disease cystic fibrosis.
