BACKGROUND: Short-term adapted swimming programs may improve self-efficacy in individuals with intellectual disability (ID). PURPOSE: We investigated if self-efficacy was improved from the perspectives of swimmers, their parents, and volunteering staff. METHODS: A 5-day program (60 min∙day-1) focused on swim skill development and independence, with each participant supported by a volunteer without disability. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 5 swimmers (14–35 years, 4 females), 5 parents (40–70 years, all mothers), and 5 volunteers (17–64 years, 4 females). Research suggests parent-child communication about sexual health can promote positive sexual health outcomes (e.g., Estrada-Martinez et al., 2020; Jayne et al., 2021); however, parent-child sexual health conversations are often infrequent and heteronormative (Estes, 2017). Few studies explore sexual health communication between LGBQ youth and their parents. This study explores previous experiences with parent-child sexual health communication between seven LGBQ young adults, aged 18 to 26, and four of their heterosexual mothers, to better understand parent-child sexual health communication and differences between parental-child reflections. Findings suggest LGBQ young adults and parents recall similar experiences, however, perceived discomfort and parental competency differently. …

Two studies investigated various aspects of channel and hybrid catfish production and processing. The first study examined the effects of ammonia stress (15 mg/L vs. 1 mg/L control) on growth performance and fillet quality. While channel catfish demonstrated superior growth, ammonia stress minimally impacted the sensory profiles of both species. Gut microbiota analysis revealed species-specific differences, with Lactococcus lactis dominating hybrid catfish communities. The second study evaluated buffered vinegar treatment (1.5%) on fillet shelf life during refrigerated storage. Vinegar-treated fillets maintained better microbiological quality, with aerobic plate counts remaining below 7 log cfu/g through day 6, while untreated fillets exceeded …

Rare medical conditions are one of these cases. Datasets for retinoblastoma are severely lacking in quantity. Diffusion has been used to create synthetic data in the industrial, medical, and financial domains. By applying the latest Diffusion methods to retinoblastoma, this work seeks to improve predictive model performance on identifying retinoblastoma.

Root phenotyping provides insights into root structure, function, and response to environmental stimuli, aiding researchers in improving crop yields, developing new plant varieties, and enhancing plant health. Traditionally, measuring root traits, such as length and area, is manual, time-consuming, and resource intensive. This study introduces a deep learning-based computer vision method for soybean root segmentation and traits estimation using RGB (red, green, blue) images captured under controlled illumination. Catfish aquaculture is a critical industry in the United States and Mississippi in particular. The industry is beset by depredation, rising feed costs, competition with imports, and loss to disease. Chief among these is the myxozoan parasite and causative agent of proliferative gill disease, Henneguya ictaluri. In chapter 2, novel molecular markers for greater resolution in species identification of these parasites are provided, allowing more robust life cycle inference, species-level identifications, and inference of evolutionary relationships through molecular phylogenetic analyses. An interdisciplinary workshop was implemented between 1/2019 and 5/2024 to educate caregivers on symptom management, infection prevention, safe food handling, discharge planning, home safety, and internal and external supportive services. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the experiences of Early College High School (ECHS) adjunct instructors teaching dual enrollment college courses in a southern region school district. Through interviews with ten ECHS adjunct instructors, the study examined the factors contributing to their success, their professional development needs, and the challenges they faced in teaching dual enrollment courses. Findings of the study were that ECHS adjunct instructors succeed when they provide strong student support, maintain open communication, demonstrate flexibility, and actively engage students. Background: Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is an inherited bone marrow failure syndrome caused by ribosomal protein gene mutations leading to apoptosis of erythroid progenitors. We identified a novel heterozygous variant (c.167+769C>T) in the noncoding region of RPL30 in a patient diagnosed with DBA.

Objectives/Goal: We hypothesized that this variant stunts erythroid differentiation at the proerythroblast stage and is pathogenic for DBA.

• Testosterone-induced acne vulgaris (TiAV) and androgenic alopecia (TiAGA) are common dermatologic effects of gender- affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) in transmasculine or non- binary individuals, with prevalence estimates ranging from 31.1% to 88% for TiAV and up to 63.3% for TiAGA. • Blood product transfusion reactions are associated with a spectrum of signs/ symptoms and can be challenging to identify. Transfusion reactions occur in about 1.1% of transfusions and constitute a significant source of iatrogenic morbidity and mortality.

• At TJUH, formally reported reactions comprised 0.24% of all blood product transfusions in 2024, similar to the national reporting average of 0.22%.

Canine reproductive physiology is unique, with oocytes ovulated at an immature stage and completing meiosis within the oviduct. This study investigated protein expression in oviductal secretions from the ampulla and isthmus during oocyte maturation in dogs. Six anestrous female dogs were induced to eestrus using 4.7 mg deslorelin implants, followed by ovariohysterectomy at various time points. Samples were categorized into four groups (n=3 per group) based on oviductal region, histological confirmation, and oocyte maturation status. The project required students to read a memoir and analyze the character using human development theories with a group of students. This pilot study evaluated a previously untested cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention designed specifically to treat opioid use disorder (OUD). Adults (N = 20) taking medication for OUD were recruited from a public health organization providing harm reduction and treatment services to people who use drugs in Philadelphia. IMAT and EMAT are anatomically juxtaposed to myofibers. Some evidence supports that IMAT and EMAT impede muscle function. This is potentially due to paracrine factors that are secreted by IMAT/EMAT. [Objective ] The effects of the transcription regulation system on menaquinone- 7 (MK- 7) production in Bacillus subtilis (B.subtilis ) 168 were studied by excavating transcription regulators.[Method ] With the signal molecule PhrG pentapeptide,RapG,and the transcription regulator DegU,a PhrG-RapG-DegU regulatory system was successfully constructed in B.subtilis 168 to fine-tune the expression of key genes,so that the expression of key genes in the MK- 7 synthesis pathway can respond to the changes in cell density.[Result ] The production of MK- 7 in strain BS 06 reached 102.47 mg/L through this system.[Conclusion ] Fine tuning of quorum sensing can effectively improve the …
