Effects Of Hydrogen Peroxide, Temperature And Treatment Time On Degradation Propertiesof Polyethersulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane, Yasi̇n Özay, Erdal Yabalak, Nadi̇r Di̇zge
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Oxidative cleaning agents such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) used in water and wastewater treatment play an important role in the degradation and rapid aging of the polymeric membranes. In addition, when the temperature is above the maximum operating range of the membrane, it negatively affects the membrane performance. H2O2, which is also known as a green and environmentally friendly strong oxidant because of releasing only water as a by-product, can provide good cleaning efficiency under temperature, but its influence on membrane aging is not fully understood. In this study, the aging of polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration (UF) …

Bovine Serum Albumin Detection By Using Molecularly Imprinted Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensors, Ali̇ Araz
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Molecular imprinted polymers (MIP) have key-lock pattern binding properties specific to the size and shape of target molecules. In this study, we have prepared detection platforms based on a molecularly imprinted surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor that can detect bovine serum albumin (BSA) sensitively, selectively, quickly, and in real time. The polymeric film prepared on the SPR sensor surface by molecular imprinting method was obtained by selecting the N-methacryloyl-(L)-glutamic acid molecule as a suitable functional monomer using ultraviolet polymerization. Three different imprinting methods, such as epitope, bulk, and surface imprinting methods, were used to examine the imprinting efficiency. Real-time measurements …

Effects Of Azadirachta Indica Extract On Inhibition Of Glutamate-Induced Neuronal Cell Apoptosis Via Preventing Excessive Mitophagy Activation And Inhibiting Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress In Ht-22 Cells, Kuljira Mongkolpobsin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are the age-related diseases which represent a major cause of mortality in aging population nowadays. Previous studies have shown that glutamate, the most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter, significantly increases in extracellular fluid of the patient’s brain and is the cause of neurodegeneration in NDs. The increase of extracellular glutamate elevates reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and calcium (Ca2+) which exacerbate mitochondrial function, followed by inducing MAPK pathway and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, respectively. In addition, Ca2+ overload also triggers calpain, a Ca2+ dependent protease, activity which further stimulates Cdk5/p35/p25 signaling leading to neuronal apoptosis. Azadirachta indica A. Juss. …

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has been affecting the swine industry, especially in suckling pigs with a high mortality rate. Among all the strategies to overcome PEDV, boosting mucosal immunity in the pig intestines through oral administration appears to be more efficient than other routes. However, there are biological obstacles such as an acidic environment that could damage biologics, a product from organisms often used for PEDV treatment. The plant-derived 2C10 monoclonal antibody (mAb) from Nicotiana benthamiana produced by transient expression was revealed as one of the potential candidates against PEDV through oral delivery. Herein, we demonstrated the calcium-alginate microencapsulation …

The Fit-For-Purpose Model: Conceptualizing And Managing Chronic Nonspecific Low Back Pain As An Information Problem, Benedict M. Wand, Aidan G. Cashin, James H. Mcauley, Matthew K. Bagg, Gemma M. Orange, G. Lorimer Moseley
Physiotherapy Papers and Journal Articles
Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNSLBP) is a complex and multifaceted problem. The following Perspective Piece tries to help make sense of this complexity by describing a model for the development and maintenance of persistent low back pain that integrates modifiable factors across the biopsychosocial spectrum. The Fit-for-Purpose model (FFPM) posits the view that chronic nonspecific low back pain represents a state in which the person in pain holds strong and relatively intransient internal models of an immutably damaged, fragile, and unhealthy back, and information that supports these models is more available and trustworthy than information that counters them. This …

Archiving Bilingual Latin@ Oral Histories, Elena Foulis, Brandon D’Souza
Archiving Bilingual Latin@ Oral Histories, Elena Foulis, Brandon D’Souza
Spanish Faculty Publications (Archived)
Over the past ten years, digital archives documenting underrepresented communities have been rising. For example, oral and print historical projects about minoritized communities and ethnic cultural heritage centers have existed for decades (Daniel, 2010), yet few are fully accessible online. The increased presence of these types of archives points not only to the need to document the histories of these communities but also to the interest in making this work accessible to all. There is an urgency in documenting, archiving, and curating histories—audio, print, video, and other ephemera—because minoritized communities have consistently faced exclusion from majority historical documents. As precarious …

For these students, a sense of belonging is believed to aid in improved collegial relationships and better academic performance. According to the research, students who have positive perceptions of the campus climate tend to be more satisfied with their overall college experience and become more academically successful. Private, faith-based institutions must consider conducting campus climate surveys to assess potential diversity, …
An Investigation Of Mathematics Self-Efficacy, The Sources Of Mathematics Self-Efficacy, And Mathematics Achievement Among Primary School Students In Trinidad And Tobago, Ronald Sinanan
Dissertations
Purpose of the Study
This dissertation addressed two problems in the literature. Firstly, while many study findings have highlighted the critical role of self-efficacy in students' achievement, additional research was needed about the four hypothesized sources that influence the improvement of students' mathematics self-efficacy. Many studies on self-efficacy sources were conducted with measures not closely tied to social cognitive theory and have not demonstrated sufficient reliability. Using the Sources of Mathematics SelfEfficacy Scale, Usher and Pajares (2009) addressed this problem. They suggested several recommendations for future research (Usher & Pajares, 2008b, 2009), including exploring the validity of their scale in …

Vaccaria hispanica (Mill) Rauschert, also known as cow cockle, is an important candidate for industrial crop species that has yet to be fully domesticated. Therefore, characterization of germplasms is crucial to initiate and select for economic use. The study reports cultivation, characterization, and seed production of 66 wild V. hispanica genotypes, collected throughout Turkey that represent the available genetic pool. The study was carried out in an unheated greenhouse in Antalya, under Mediterranean climate from December to early June. The populations were evaluated for 21 morphological and 6 agronomic traits. The highest coefficient of variation (CV) for morphological traits was …

Following the dimensional-categorical model of personality functioning, this study used archival data to examine the degree to which narcissism and entitlement determined engagement in violent acts and treatment completion. The study reviewed MCMI-III/IV scores, discharge summaries, and violence histories for a sample of 105 individuals who were referred for forensic outpatient services by the court. One-way ANOVAs were used to assess all four of the hypotheses (a) individuals with more than one violent act (vs. one violent act) would have significantly higher mean scores on the MCMI-III/IV entitlement subscale, (b) individuals with more than one violent act would have significantly …
