Characterization Of Active Electrode Yield For Intracortical Arrays: Awake Versus Anesthesia, Jeffrey R. Capadona
Characterization Of Active Electrode Yield For Intracortical Arrays: Awake Versus Anesthesia, Jeffrey R. Capadona
Faculty Scholarship
Intracortical microelectrode arrays are used for recording neural signals at single-unit resolution and are promising tools for studying brain function and developing neuroprosthetics. Research is being done to increase the chronic performance and reliability of these probes, which tend to decrease or fail within several months of implantation. Although recording paradigms vary, studies focused on assessing the reliability and performance of these devices often perform recordings under anesthesia. However, anesthetics—such as isoflurane—are known to alter neural activity and electrophysiologic function. Therefore, we compared the neural recording performance under anesthesia (2% isoflurane) followed by awake conditions for probes implanted in the …
Exploring The Inferiority Model In Adlerian Psychotherapy, Rachel Bradley
Exploring The Inferiority Model In Adlerian Psychotherapy, Rachel Bradley
Student Works
Alfred Adler once afflicted with inferiority due to organ inferiority, became the founding father of Individual/Adlerian psychology. Adlerian psychotherapy spans numerous contemporary theories in psychology. Adlerian psychotherapy is a holistic, phenomenological, optimistic and socially entrenched theory, on how everyone interprets themselves and others within the society they live (Maniacci & Sackett-Maniacci, 2019). An overview will be provided of where one of Adler’s most important assumptions, inferiority, fits within the Adlerian theory. Given such, the negative responses to inferiority: inferiority complex and superiority complex will be discussed, followed by socially useful type of inferiority. After that, inferiority as a specific element …

Road Salt Effects On Leaf-Level Isoprene Emission, Aarti Mistry
Road Salt Effects On Leaf-Level Isoprene Emission, Aarti Mistry
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
Road salt accumulation in the environment influences plants, soils, and surrounding ecosystem. From the use of chloride-based deicers, [Na+] and [Cl-] can be found in leaf tissue and have been shown to affect plant function negatively through reduced photosynthetic activity. Photosynthetic activity is an important plant function that drives plant health and is also linked to isoprene emissions. Certain plant genera emit isoprene, a biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC) which produces tropospheric ozone and reduces regional air quality. Isoprene is emitted into the atmosphere by photosynthetic activity from leaves. Isoprene emissions from these plants are an indicator of plant health …

Oyster Reef-To-Mangrove Regime Shifts Along The West Coast Of Florida, Stephen Gregory Hesterberg
Oyster Reef-To-Mangrove Regime Shifts Along The West Coast Of Florida, Stephen Gregory Hesterberg
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Ecological regime shifts are transitions in ecosystem state, which can occur either when external conditions gradually change or when large perturbations force a system into an alternative state. Such transitions can exhibit non-linear dynamics, where small changes in external conditions can result in abrupt transition and often occur with little warning. After crossing a tipping point, the system may be unable to revert to its original state if the new regime possesses strong, reinforcing feedbacks. Numerous marine ecosystems have experienced regime shifts due to a combination of stressors that have eroded ecological resilience, such as overfishing, nutrient loading, and climate …
Wittgenstein And Hume On Miracles, Samuel Wheeler
Wittgenstein And Hume On Miracles, Samuel Wheeler
Undergraduate Research Symposium
In this paper, I intend to contrast the positions of Ludwig Wittgenstein and David Hume on miracles. While Hume holds that miracles are violations of laws of nature which can never be probable, Wittgenstein would reject this definition. Instead, he takes a broader stance on miracles and holds that many events which are not transgressions of laws of nature can be seen as miraculous. And the point of this is to highlight the vastly different events we call miracles. Contra Hume, Wittgenstein thinks that even some of our greatest certainties can call up in us a sense of absolute wonder …

Access To Nitrogen Heterocycles Via Borrowing Hydrogen Catalysis, Robert P. Reynolds, Kellen P. Mcguire, Conor T. Mccormick, Kyle M. Lambert
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Nitrogen heterocycles are ubiquitous motifs which occur as the core structure of several alkaloid natural products exhibiting inherent biological activity against an array of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and cancer cell lines. These azacycles serve as key synthetic building blocks for medicinal chemists to access more structurally complex and diverse compounds with tunable biological properties. A synthetic approach to these valuable motifs employing intramolecular borrowing hydrogen catalysis has been developed. The utility of the developed chemistry will be applied to synthetic efforts towards the recently isolated Cylicomorphins A-E.

Lectins And Their Application In Forensic Medical Practice, Mukharrama A. Khasanova, Nizom J. Ermatov
Central Asian Journal of Medicine
The problem of obtaining economically cheap drugs for determining the group (in liquid form and in traces) is relevant. Diagnostic lectinology in relation to the determination of the blood group of the AB0 system is currently widely used in many countries of the world. The commercial cost of lectins is tens and even hundreds of times lower than the cost of rabbit absorption serum. The study of lectins in the seeds of some plants growing on the territory of Uzbekistan has shown the possibility of using them in the determination of antigens of the AB0 system.
