In view of the toxic effects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), fast and effective assessment of their concentrations in marine mammals is important for understanding individual and population-level health impacts. This study developed an ultrasonic-based method that is less time-consuming, uses minimal solvent, and thus is more sustainable than the gold standard Soxhlet method for accurate analysis of organochlorine pesticides (OCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and benzene hexachlorides (BHC) in false killer whale blubber. Leaves of Cucumis callosus, traditionally employed in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of urinary disorders, were investigated in depth for their therapeutic potential against bacterially induced urinary tract infection (UTI) for the first time. The present work is the first to explore the antibacterial activity of C. callosus leaf fractions with an integrative in silico, in vitro, and in vivo approach. Through bioassay-guided fractionation, the chloroform fraction (F1) was identified as the most active, exhibiting potent activity against Uropathogenic Escherichia spp. species. Seven adult spring peepers, Pseudacris crucifer, were collected by hand during April 2024 from Polk County, Arkansas, and examined for the pathogens, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal), and frog virus 3-like Ranavirus (FV3). Swabs from three of seven (43%) individuals tested positive for Bd: all P. crucifer were negative for the other two pathogens. In addition, no hosts showed any obvious pathological signs of infection and, as such, may represent Bd vectors.  This is the first time P. crucifer from Arkansas has been reported with Bd and increases the number of amphibian species …

Interrogation techniques are influenced by the interrogator's style and the individual being interviewed. Most law enforcement agencies use adult-centered interrogation methods, leading to suboptimal results when working with youth. The research has focused on youth offenders in the interrogation room and the choices they make, often leading to false confessions when an attorney is absent. This suggests that the presence of legal representation helps protect youths' vulnerability, suggestibility, and rights, thereby reducing the likelihood of false confessions. This paper first examines how quantum logics have been applied to the social sciences. Quantum logics refers to a set of generalizations, or rules, that embrace uncertainty and relationality, challenging the linear causality of traditional social science. This study involved investigating the experiences of newly-married Black American couples with children as they faced challenges inherent to blended family dynamics. Radionuclide-stimulated dynamic therapy (RaST) utilizes Cerenkov-radiating radiopharmaceuticals to activate light-sensitive drugs and materials, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) that inhibit cancer progression. However, the underlying cell death mechanisms are not fully understood. Using ROS-regenerative nanophotosensitizers coated with a tumor-targeting transferrin-titanocene complex and radiolabeled 2-fluorodeoxyglucose, we found that RaST induced apoptosis and necroptosis, characterized by the activation of RIPK-1, RIPK-3, nuclear factor kappa B, and mixed lineage kinase domain-like pseudokinase, leading to membrane permeabilization, cytokine release, and the expression of immunogenic damage-associated molecular patterns. This study employs Barnes maze behavioral assessments, untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry metabolomics, and 13C6-glucose isotopic tracing to systematically investigate cognitive function and metabolic profiles in hippocampal and cortical tissues of male and female mice across five distinct age-ranges. Behavioral analyses reveal significant cognitive decline in both sexes by 16-months-of-age, with females exhibiting more severe impairment by 23-months, demonstrating a sex-related variation. 13C6-glucose tracing analyses reveals that glucose is rapidly and preferentially metabolized toward the Tricarboxylic acid cycle over glycolysis and the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), with metabolism rates increasing from juvenility to meet developmental demands and maintaining homeostasis into pre-elderly. …

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the risks associated with infant botulism in Oman by examining honey-feeding practices among infants and related sociodemographic and clinical factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study included Omani mothers with children under 5 years and were conveniently recruited from health centres. Mothers completed an infant feeding practices and beliefs survey between October 2023 and March 2024. Data were represented as frequencies and percentages and analysed via Chi-square test and logistic regression. This study utilized narrative inquiry to delve into some of the less-celebrated experiences of adoptees and their families. Drawing on focus group data from 17 adult participants with various connections to adoption, we co-constructed three composite narratives centering on darker aspects of the adoption experience: adoptees’ sense of loss, adoption as a secret or taboo, and the challenging implications of interracial adoption. By weaving together participants' authentic voices, the study provides rich insights into the multifaceted experiences of those touched by adoption. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui  kandungan nutirisi ampas sagu yang dipermentasi menggunakan   Pleurotus ostreatus   pada berbegai  fase pertumbuhannnya.  Rancangan Acak lengkap digunakan pada penelitian ini, perlakuan yang diberikan adalah fase pertumbuhan dari Pleurotus ostreatu. Peubah yang diukur meliputi  kandungan protein kasar, bahan kering, ADF, VDF, dan lignin dari ampas sagu yang difermentasi.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkkan bahwa terdapat perubahan komposisi nutrisi ampas sago pada berbagai fase pertumbuhan Jamur Pleurotus ostreatus. Kandungan protein meningkat dan kandungan ligninoselulosa menurun, sehingga hasil fermentasi ini sangat potensial untuk dijadikan sebagai  pakan ternak ruminansia.

Dedak padi banyak terdapat di daerah perdesaan. Bahan pakan ini mengandung fitat yang tinggi dan dapat mengikat Kadmium (Cd). Penelitian bertujuan untuk mempelajari lokal pengaruh penggunaan dedak padi dalam ransum ayam lokal yang diberi air minum mengandung cemaran kadmium terhadap performans. Dua puluh empat ekor ayam lokal digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan bobot 422,08 ± 38,78 g. Dedak padi digunakan dalam ransum sebanyak 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50% selama 8 minggu. Click-to-release chemistry enables bioorthogonal bond cleavage and controlled release via a click-type ligation reaction serving as both the trigger and means of localization. Extending this concept beyond covalent ligation reactions, we introduce a noncovalent click-to-release strategy based on cucurbit[7]uril-adamantane (CB-Ad) association. The CB host molecule forms a pre-assembled host-guest complex with a self-immolative guest (SIG) SIG1, where the masked SIG remains inert. Introduction of a high-affinity guest Ad initiates the CB-Ad noncovalent click reaction, displacing SIG1 and triggering its self-immolation and cargo release. INTRODUCTION: The incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Down syndrome (DS) exceeds 90%. Approximately 50% of people with DS have congenital heart disease (CHD). Having CHD increases risk for early-onset AD in populations without DS, but it is unclear if CHD influences AD in DS.

Lamtoro merupakan tananaman leguminosa yang mengandung gizi lebih baik dibandingkan dengan rumput lapangan, namun penggunaannya perlu dibatasi karena mengandung senyawa mimosin yang dapat memberikan efek negatif pada kulit, khususnya pelt kelinci. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pada tingkat berapa persen penggunaan lamtoro dalam ransum memberikan pengaruh terhadap produksi pelt dan kerontokkan bulu kelinci peranakan New Zealand White.  Penelitian menggunakan 21 ekor kelinci jantan  peranakan New Zealand White umur 8 minggu dengan berat pada kisaran 700 – 1100 gram dengan koefisien variasi 8,34%. Penelitian telah dilaksanakan untuk mempelajari pengaruh pemberian antanan (Centella asiatica) sebagai penangkal anti stress dalam ransum ayam broiler yang mengandung hidrolisat bulu ayam. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan 81 ekor broiler umur 10 hari. Terdapat dua macam perlakuan yang diberikan. Perlakuan pertama adalah tiga level kandungan antanan (0, 5, dan 10% kandungan antanan dalam ransum). Perlakuan kedua adalah tiga level tepung bulau (0, 4,8%, dan 9,6% tepung bulu dalam ransum).
