Financial provision continues to factor significantly in how Black men perceive and enact fatherhood, influencing the extent and manner of their paternal engagement. The enduring representation of men primarily as financial providers constrains the generation and enactment of alternative modalities of fatherhood within families and society. This qualitative study explored how the everyday lived experiences of young Black men in Soweto, South Africa, influence their varied engagements with fatherhood as they navigate structural constraints to pursuing their ideal of fatherhood. Introduction: Uterine rupture at previable gestational ages is almost always treated with evacuation of the pregnancy, followed by uterine repair or hysterectomy. Case Presentation: A 40-year-old woman with one prior cesarean section presented at 22 weeks of gestation with an acute abdomen. Imaging noted hemoperitoneum with areas of bulging in the anterior uterine wall. Laparoscopy converted to a laparotomy through a midline incision, noted an actively bleeding 2 cm area of uterine rupture with protruding placental tissue. The uterine rupture was surgically closed with sutures. The patient was kept in the hospital for the remainder of her pregnancy. At 32 …

Synchronicity is observed in many biological systems, including development, as seen in vertebrate body axis formation, fly eye development, and development of the social amoeba D. discoideum. Despite its prevalence, quantitative analyses of synchronicity at the single-cell level remain rare. Here we show that synchronicity in D. discoideum is mediated by early cAMP signaling. Using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), we quantify transcriptome similarities between individual cells during development. We show that synchronicity first declines upon starvation but then increases with the onset of cAMP-pulse signaling. Synchronicity remains stable throughout development and differs between prespore and prestalk cells. Genetic perturbations of …

Introduction: Research has indicated an increased prevalence of low back pain (LBP) due to SIJ dysfunction, with some reports suggesting it is the main source of pain in 15- 30% of cases. Hyoid bone fractures account for 0.002% of all fractures and are typically seen in cases dealing with strangulations or a blunt force trauma such as occurs from vehicle accidents or martial arts injuries. Introduction: The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is found in the medial aspect of the elbow joint capsule and is commonly injured in baseball pitchers. The common flexor tendon (CFT) is also found in the medial elbow and is less commonly injured. Both structures are key in overhead throwing, repaired via surgery, and injured due to valgus stress placed on the elbow. There is research on UCL injuries but very little on CFT injuries. Introduction: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a rare and complex condition caused by the compression of neurovascular structures in the thoracic outlet. TOS is estimated to affect 3 to 80 individuals per 1,000,000 annually, with neurogenic TOS accounting for approximately 95% of cases. Athletes who perform repetitive overhead motions are at higher risk due to increased stress on the brachial plexus. About 12% of couples worldwide are infertile. Male factor infertility causes or is contributory to a couple's ability to conceive in approximately 50% of cases. Evidence has emerged that infertile men have poor overall health and increased morbidity and mortality, yet the causes for this are poorly understood. Although these men may appear healthy, research shows that they can harbor a wide variety of systemic diseases and illnesses that may share common links with the causes of their infertility. Cryopreservation is critical for long-term storage of cells, tissues, organs, and reproductive cells in medicine, biotechnology, and conservation. However, its success is limited by ice formation and cryoinjury, prompting extensive research into analytical tools for understanding and improving cryopreservation outcomes. We outline the principles of each technique and how they are used to detect key thermal and physical events such as ice nucleation, vitrification, devitrification, and cryoinjury. DSC enables quantitative thermal characterization including critical cooling/warming rates (ranging from 1-200°C/min for various systems) and glass transition temperatures. BACKGROUND: Mucosal melanomas (MM) arise from mucosal melanocytes at various anatomical sites. These tumors are rare, highly aggressive, and often associated with poor outcomes. Current treatments, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, show limited efficacy in advanced disease. Compared with cutaneous melanomas, there is a lack of data on the immunogenicity and interferon (IFN)-γ sensitivity of MM. In this study, we examined these features in sino-nasal melanomas (SN-MM) cell lines and clinical samples using microscopy and functional genomics.

The western painted turtle, Chrysemys picta bellii, has the greatest tolerance to anoxia of any tetrapod studied to date. These turtles reside in the northern United States and southern Canada, and survive months of anoxia while submerged in ice-locked ponds and bogs. Reference genomes provide an important resource for elucidating the molecular bases for such unique physiological traits. The initial reference genome for this species, published in 2013, is highly fragmented, thereby limiting downstream analyses and biological interpretation. The aim of this paper is to present information to help reduce the risk of poisoning. The paper emphasizes the particular plant communities in which these plants grow.
