Problem: Will education provided to nurses at a Midwest community hospital about the Respiratory Distress Observation Scale (RDOS) result in increased knowledge on how to assess patients who are unable to self-report dyspnea?

Intervention: Dyspnea is a common and distressing symptom which occurs in critically ill and end-of-life patients. Due to sedation and physiological changes which occur during critical illness and the dying process, many patients are unable to communicate dyspnea. The Respiratory Distress Observation Scale (RDOS) is the only evidence-based tool available to assess dyspnea in uncommunicative end-of-life patients. Intervention: This project was designed to educate nurses on palliative care topics and enhance their ability to assess and identify palliative care needs in their patients.

Measures: An online pre-survey and post-survey was used to determine the nurse's knowledge before and after the education was dispersed. Compassion fatigue (CF) has been studied in many healthcare and non-healthcare related professions. There has been, however, limited research regarding CF among nurse practitioners (NP). CF has been correlated to negative patient outcomes and can have a negative impact on the NP in their professional and personal lives. The question guiding this project was, Are nurse practitioners who participate in a virtual education presentation able to identify and define compassion fatigue as evident by post-education evaluation? Problem: When geriatric patients are immobilized or placed on bedrest, loss of function and decreased activity levels are common. Prolonged immobility is associated with a decline in muscle strength and mass, as well as physical and cognitive function, thereby leading to delays in functional recovery as well as delays in hospital discharge. The purpose of this project was to address the consequences of prolonged immobility in hip fracture patients and evaluate a potential solution to improve patient outcomes.

Purpose: Clinicians are often uncertain about their prognostic estimates, which may impede prognostic communication and clinical decision-making. We assessed the impact of a web-based prognostic calculator on physicians' prognostic confidence.

Methods: In this prospective study, palliative care physicians estimated the prognosis of patients with advanced cancer in an outpatient clinic using the temporal, surprise, and probabilistic approaches for 6 m, 3 m, 2 m, 1 m, 2 w, 1 w, and 3 d.
