A cognitive prerequisite for education and (re)entry into the labor market is the ability to concentrate for a long period. Conducted with 39 participants, the present study examines the effect of a six-week dance-like martial arts program on prisoners’ concentration ability in an open prison in Germany (n=15), and compares their concentration ability with a control group of prisoners (n=5), as well as a treatment (n=11) and control group (n=8) of university students. Concentration ability is assessed using the d2-R concentration and attention test before, after, and six weeks following the program. The Role Of Gender Equity In Olympic Success Using Panel Data, Anusha Khan

Honors Projects in Mathematics and Economics

This study investigates whether gender equity is one of the determinants of Olympic success at the country level. Using panel data with 766 observations from six Olympic years (2012–2022), it examines the relationship between gender equity and national medal counts. Three Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) models were estimated using total, men’s, and women’s medal counts as dependent variables. While the findings vary across models, results suggest that gender equity may be positively associated with Olympic performance, though its significance is limited when controlling for other social and economic variables.

Skating For A Payday: Analyzing Nhl Player Performance In Contract Years, Mike Anthony Dibenedetto

Honors Projects in Economics

This research investigates the contract year phenomenon in the National Hockey League (NHL) by analyzing player performance during contract years rather than salary outcomes. Through an extensive literature review and empirical analysis, I examine whether NHL players exhibit statistically significant differences in performance during the final year of their contracts. Drawing from a broad range of studies on performance motivation, team systems, free agency, arbitration rights, and the role of advanced analytics, this paper synthesizes existing theories with new regression-based evidence.

IPHS 484: Senior Seminar

This project leverages artificial intelligence Agents and Multi-Agent Debate (MAD) to evaluate Major League Baseball players and construct a twenty-six player MLB roster. The AI Agents evaluate each player based on statistics and grades them according to a five-tool scale, eventually resulting in a single numerical rating. MAD is then employed alongside optimization techniques to select thirteen hitters and thirteen pitchers, maximizing team performance according to agent consensus, while staying within a specified salary cap. The operating hypothesis is that AI agents can effectively evaluate Major League Baseball players based on performance statistics, even with large and complex datasets. By …

As prescription pharmaceuticals increasingly infiltrate agricultural systems, their unmonitored presence in produce products raises critical concerns about environmental contamination and human health risks. Using a mixed methods approach, combining a literature review and anonymous survey, the presence, fate, and transport of PCs in produce products, potential health effects, and consumer knowledge and perspectives were evaluated. It was found that the presence of PCs spanned across all classes of PCs and were present in locations among all types of environmental media, especially those used for agricultural production. As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, its influence across professional fields, including athletic communications, demands closer examination. Despite extensive research in journalism and public relations, scholars have largely overlooked AI’s role in collegiate athletic communications. To address this gap, this study surveyed professionals from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to explore current use of AI and aspirations for its integration in the workplace. The results of this study show that NSIC professionals generally view AI as a beneficial tool. However, adoptions remain low within both the NSIC and the broader field. This project, completed as part of the Honors and VCT Synthesis coursework at Bowling Green State University, focuses on improving the user experience of joining and participating in the university’s intramural sports program. Despite the program's popularity and impact on student life, usability issues within its IMLeagues platform and inconsistent or missing rulebooks have created barriers to entry and engagement. To address these challenges, the project involved the design and development of a standardized, user-friendly set of rulebooks for all intramural sports, a how-to guide for purchasing IM passes, and a quick-reference card for flag football referees.
