A Cross-Cultural Comparative Analysis Of Print Advertisements: Fifa World Cup Sport Magazine Issues, Sarah Elliott
A Cross-Cultural Comparative Analysis Of Print Advertisements: Fifa World Cup Sport Magazine Issues, Sarah Elliott
Undergraduate Theses
This study analyzes advertisements in the top sports magazines in the United States and United Kingdom, Sports Illustrated and SPORT respectively, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Sports magazines see an increase in sales during the time of the FIFA World Cup, meaning companies will put more effort into the production of their advertisements as the audience is larger and more diverse. The study uses content analysis methods to gain insight into the informational content and gender representation in the advertisements. The results demonstrate both hard and soft-sell approaches to selling goods and services. The study uses predictive analysis to …

Teaching, Learning, And Assessment: Insights Into Students’ Motivation To Learn, Simon R. Walters, Pedro Silva, Jennifer Nikolai
The Qualitative Report
This study draws upon the perspectives of sport and recreation undergraduate students in New Zealand who were involved in the design of their own assessments, and discusses the implication of the teaching and learning environment on this process. In a previous study, student criticism had emerged of current teaching strategies and assessment methods at their institution. The purpose of this current study was to directly address some of these concerns and for lecturers and students to work collaboratively to develop a more learner-centred teaching and learning environment. Students from a second-year sociology of sport paper were invited to design their …
The Role Of An Auditor, Rick Rignola
The Role Of An Auditor, Rick Rignola
Academic Festival
This presentation is about the role of an auditor in society. To the general public, the function of an auditor is unknown. I plan to educate those on what an auditor is, why we need them in society, and what happens when an auditor fails to perform its duties. Auditing is a systematic process that is very important to the sustainability of businesses and the economy. The world has seen numerous scenarios where inefficient auditing or fraud has hurt many victims financially. These scandals include Enron, WorldCom, and more. We need sufficient auditors to prevent events like those from happening …

This public relations campaign is to increase participation of Western Michigan University students at Kalamazoo Wings hockey games. The *millennial audience represents 25-30% of many professional sports teams’ overall revenue base (Fisher 2015). A Framing And Tone Analysis Of Donald Trump Comments On Immigration And Jobs In National Newspapers, Kevin Scott Edwards
A Framing And Tone Analysis Of Donald Trump Comments On Immigration And Jobs In National Newspapers, Kevin Scott Edwards
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The unique candidacy of Donald Trump provided an opportunity to study how he talked about issues, specifically the issues of immigration and jobs from a framing and tone persepctive. Such a perspective can provide insight as to how audiences perceive these issues. Specifically, this project examined the kind of framing Trump used in his comments on immigration and jobs:episodic or thematic, as well as the kinds of tone used in his comments:positive, negative, or neutral. A sample of 118 news articles from the Los Angeles Times, TheNew York Times, the Tampa Bay Times, and the Washington Post found that on …
Ecological Economics And Sport Stadium Public Financing, Christopher M. Mcleod, John T. Holden
Ecological Economics And Sport Stadium Public Financing, Christopher M. Mcleod, John T. Holden
William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review
Given the recent importance that sport organizations, academics, and the public have placed on environmental sustainability this Article introduces the study of ecological economics—founded upon Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen’s application of thermodynamics to economics—to legal perspectives on public financing. The authors argue that the economic growth limits implied by thermodynamic principles should be incorporated in the public financing of sport stadiums. More specifically, municipalities can require facilities receiving public financing to produce environmental cost accounting reports and to make them publically available.

Going … Going … Public? Taking A United States Professional Sports League Public, Ian A. Mclin
William & Mary Business Law Review
The four major American professional sports leagues—the MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL—are wildly popular, but the leagues fail to capitalize fully on their success because they are organized in a largely inefficient manner. By organizing as unincorporated non-profits, leagues forgo their ability to raise capital via investors, forcing taxpayers to bear the burden of league investments such as new stadium construction. Further, the current organizational model creates a collective action problem, as self-interested team owners focus their support on actions that benefit their own franchise and leave ineffective commissioners in power.
A solution to these problems is for a professional …

Understanding contribution in youth sport contexts: a critical review
Objectives
The objectives of this ongoing study are to: 1) investigate how “contribution” was conceptualized and studied across different disciplines, 2) to study what terms and definitions were used to study this general construct across disciplines, and 3) to use this information to develop a holistic, integrative definition of contribution in sport.
Methods
We performed a systematic search of English peer-reviewed literature using SPORTDISCUS and Academic Search Premier and a wide range of keywords (e.g., contribution, youth sport, volunteerism). The articles were specific to or included sport and contribution or some …

The Oakland Nomads, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
The announcement last week that the Oakland Raiders would, for the second time in its history, leave the city of Oakland came as a shock to no one. The synergistic relationship between the greed of the National Football League and the greed of the principal owner of the Raiders, made such a move an inevitability on the wheel of time. Such “loyalty” to the city of Oakland and its rabid football fans will not go unrewarded. Indeed, both the Raiders owner and the NFL will make out like bandits once again.
