Cultural Diversity In Interdependent Sport Teams, Michael J. Godfrey Jan 2020

Cultural Diversity In Interdependent Sport Teams, Michael J. Godfrey

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Group member characteristics are key factors that underpin a team’s structure (e.g., roles), emergent states (e.g., cohesion), processes (e.g., goals), and subsequently both individual (e.g., retention) and group (e.g., performance) outcomes (Carron & Eys 2012). Furthermore, the importance of considering individuals’ cultural backgrounds (as specific member characteristics) contributing to individual and group outcomes has recently been expressed within sport psychology (Schinke et al., 2014). Although sporadic attempts have examined cultural diversity in professional sport contexts in relation to performance and revenue (e.g., Maderer et al., 2014), the majority of empirical research examining the effects of cultural diversity on small groups …

Inside Collaborative Communities: Teachers' Perceptions Of The Collaborative Process, Pamela Ann Evors

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand teachers’ perceptions of the collaborative process and how it affected their classroom practices. The research question was “What are the perceptions held by experienced public elementary-school teachers in a large urban school district in the southeastern United States regarding the collaborative process in their school settings?”

Leading Effective Inclusive Schools: How Principals Make The Difference, Megan Robinson Mcmillan

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In effective inclusive schools, school principals are the difference-makers. Principals of these schools possess a commitment to leading schools adept at delivering high academic achievement outcomes and providing an inclusive education for students with disabilities. This leadership is predicated upon their inclusive consciousness, or a dogged determination to provide ethical and meaningful educational experiences to all students, but especially those with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to understand how four elementary-level public school principals acquired, developed, and demonstrated an inclusive consciousness that guided their leadership of effective inclusive schools. Q Methodology As A Formative Tool For Facilitating Professional Development School Partnership Development, Catherine E. Wade

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

ABSTRACT

In the mid-1980s, through the work of the Holmes Group (now the Holmes Partnership) and the National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER), the term “Professional Development School” emerged as a part of the nation’s educational discourse (Brindley, Field & Lessen, 2008). The success of these PDS have been widely reported within the literature presented. However, missing from our PDS literature are studies which focus on the formative implementation and progression of the partnerships as seen through the collective perspectives of PDS stakeholders. The purpose of this study was to develop and explore a participatory process for collecting, organizing and …

Implementation Of Employee Wellness Programming In Siuc Athletic Department, James Morrison Jan 2020

Implementation Of Employee Wellness Programming In Siuc Athletic Department, James Morrison

Research Papers

With longer workdays and the ever-growing technological base of society, inactivity and poor diet have become a staple in western civilization (Sharma & Majumdar, 2009). Between meeting the demands of work, family, and other responsibilities that may intrude on a day-to-day basis, maintaining one’s health can be a challenge. This struggle not only affects an individual’s health, but their external and social life as well, as decreased productivity and missed days of work may also be outcomes of poor health maintenance. The development of employee wellness programs has been an effective way to cope with the resultant health effects brought …

Making Meaning Of Supplier Diversity In Florida's Public Universities: A Narrative Inquiry Of Educational Connoisseurship And Criticism, Cheryl S. Mobley-Gonzalez Jan 2020

Making Meaning Of Supplier Diversity In Florida's Public Universities: A Narrative Inquiry Of Educational Connoisseurship And Criticism, Cheryl S. Mobley-Gonzalez

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Researchers contend that higher education organizations and systems, no matter their description (public, private, two-year, or four-year), build society. Nationally, many higher education leaders discuss metrics and measures such as graduation rates, class sizes, intercollegiate athletics, famous alumni, and the extent of community engagement, as important elements of societal influence. However, within public higher education scholarship in Florida, supplier diversity is an under-recognized area. Contrary to the better-known student, faculty, and staff diversity initiatives in Florida’s colleges and universities, diversification of vendor participation for procurement and contracting lacks a systematic focus. Little scholarly knowledge exists regarding the extent to which …

Localization Economies And Firm Productivity: Evidence From Football Teams In Sao Paulo, Brazil, Brad Humphreys, Amir B. Neto

Economics Faculty Working Papers Series

Agglomeration economies affect urban economic outcomes. We analyze variation in sports team productivity and localization of teams across divisions and cities in Campeonato Paulista an annual football competition in São Paulo state, Brazil, exploiting plausibly exogenous variation in localization generated by a promotion and relegation system in this league. Results show that both urbanization, proxied by population, and localization affects short and long run team productivity. These results provide new evidence on the importance of localization economies in the urban economy in developing countries and shed light on why sports teams in larger cities enjoy more success than those in …

Global Sport Business Journal

This transcendental phenomenological study was focused on a NCAA Division I tennis team booster club and eight participants’ experiences of reality versus expectation regarding booster involvement. Team identification is an attachment that provides fans with a sense of belonging (Delia & James, 2018; Heere & James, 2007). This study used the social identity theory as the theoretical lens to better understand how the booster club members identify as a social group and the relation to team identity and brand equity. Multiple themes emerged from the data, including reciprocity, investment, and connection and belonging. Each of these themes fell under both …

Exploring Out-Of-Market Fans In An Nfl Fan Club, Peyton J. Stensland, Zach Scola, Brian S. Gordon

Global Sport Business Journal

Sport fan motivations and points of attachment have been heavily investigated regarding the local fan. Yet, these important concepts have not been explored with out-of-market fans who are becoming increasingly important to sport league’s revenues (Collins et al., 2016). To examine this type of fan, the authors utilized semi-structured interviews with attendees of an out-of-market NFL fan club. Coding the interviews revealed themes regarding motivations and points of attachment. The motivations were social interaction and escape, as members were motivated to attend the watch party to hang out with like-minded fans and to break up their daily routine. The primary …

The Influence Of Sports Facilities' Accessibility, Motivation, And Satisfaction On Word-Of-Mouth And Re-Participation Intentions Of Athletes With Physical Disabilities, Thee Trongjitpituk

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

More than a billion people are estimated to live with some form of disability, or about 15% of the world's population and the number is still growing. People with disabilities are less likely to participate in sports due to several physical barriers they face. In an effort to find ways to increase the sports participation rate of people with disabilities, the concept of marketing (satisfaction, word-of-mouth intention, and re-participation intention) was applied to the field of accessibility for the first time. This study consisted of three objectives: (1) to find out the dimension of sports facilities' accessibility and motivation, (2) …
