The Impact Of Parents’ School Choices Towards Schools And Students: A Case Study Of Secondary Schools In Inner Bangkok, Krittin Klaimee, Petchpilai Lattanan

Journal of Letters

Parents typically select the most suitable school for their children based on socioeconomic factors and geographic factors which impact on the ease of travel. With the decline in the student-age population and ongoing urban changes, schools have been significantly impacted, prompting them to adapt to the increasing competition. These impacts not only affect the schools themselves but also the students. This study aims to examine the impact of parental school choice decisions on secondary schools and students in inner Bangkok through in-depth interviews with teachers and focus group discussions with students. The findings reveal that schools with different service areas …

Beyond Charisma: A Critical Theory Perspective On Populist Leadership In A Post-Covid Age Of Crisis, Samuel Fianko-Ofori, Stephen Apolima Dec 2025

Beyond Charisma: A Critical Theory Perspective On Populist Leadership In A Post-Covid Age Of Crisis, Samuel Fianko-Ofori, Stephen Apolima

Interdisciplinary Journal of Leadership Studies

This paper argues that the digital communication environment has qualitatively transformed the dynamics of populist leadership, moving it beyond a reliance on personal charisma. While the affective bonds between leaders and followers—explored by classical theorists like Weber, Freud, and Adorno—are not new, their operation within the platformed public sphere marks a distinct shift. We introduce the concept of Affective Populist Leadership (APL) to conceptualize this shift. APL is a mode of leadership sustained through the strategic cultivation and digital amplification of collective emotions. It operates through three mutually reinforcing mechanisms: (1) the perpetual theatrical framing of politics as crisis, (2) …

“A Leader Or A Teacher”: A Latent Theory Of Transformative Education In James Macgregor Burns’S Transforming-Transactional Leadership Paradigm, Evan Rw Dutmer Dec 2025

“A Leader Or A Teacher”: A Latent Theory Of Transformative Education In James Macgregor Burns’S Transforming-Transactional Leadership Paradigm, Evan Rw Dutmer

Interdisciplinary Journal of Leadership Studies

The purpose of this paper is to uncover a latent theory of transformative teaching and learning to be found in James MacGregor Burns’s account of transforming leadership and place it in interdisciplinary conversation with transformative education. The importance of this interdisciplinary exploration consists in this: Burns’s view that good leadership and good teaching are nearly indistinguishable has powerful implications that have been too little recognized. For, if right, teachers ought to view their work as exemplifying leadership (of a mutually beneficial, elevating sort); similarly, leaders across organizations ought to look to transformative teachers as paradigmatic models of good leadership. Expanding …

Seemingly Unrelated Exponetiated Exponential Geometric Regression Model, Oluwaseun Michael Famoni, Bamidele Mustapha Oseni

Al-Bahir

In the class of seemingly unrelated regression models, the dispersion nature of the dependent variable can greatly impact the efficiency and reliability of the parameter estimates for the model. Despite this, the seemingly unrelated Poisson regression model and seemingly unrelated negative binomial model are two most commonly used count data models for these class of regression models. This study introduces the seemingly unrelated exponentiated exponential geometric regression (SUEEGR) for modelling count data which might be equi-, under, or over-dispersed. Parameters estimation for the model was carried out using the method of maximum likelihood. A simulation study was carried out to …

Evaluating The Effect Of Ethnicity And Amyloid On Gait Speed In The Healthy Aging Brain Study-Health Disparities Study, Alexandra M. Reed, Andrew Hooyman, Edward Ofori, Sydney Y. Schaefer

Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Background

Many novel Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers have been studied in non-Hispanic White populations, despite Hispanic/Latino adults being 1.5 times more likely to develop AD and receiving a later diagnosis. Equitable, accessible assessments are needed to identify individuals at risk earlier. While cognitive screening monitors early AD signs, neuropsychological tests are often inequitable across ethnicity, race, and other social determinants of health. However, we have shown that performance-based motor assessments may be less susceptible to demographic factors than memory tests, and may be more equitable for screening older adults. Gait speed has been linked to elevated amyloid in non-Hispanic White …

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

This study examines the governance of basic education access for Indonesian Migrant Workers’ children in Sabah and Sarawak by focusing on the roles of multi-actors involved in service provision. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and document analysis, the study finds that the operation of Community Learning Centers is highly dependent on the interaction between the Malaysian government as the licensing authority, plantation companies as facility providers and funders, and the Indonesian government through Atdikbud, KJRI/KRI, and SIKK as facilitators of educational diplomacy and the roles of PMI communities. Non-governmental organizations such as Humana Child Aid Society also enhance …

Research Advances On Foreign Portfolio Investments: A Bibliometric And Thematic Analysis, Ritu Sapra, Dixit Yadav, Kamal Upreti, Nishant Kumar, Rituraj Jain, Akhilesh Tiwari

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

Foreign portfolio investments have been at the center of research in the finance, economics, and international business domains since the early 1990s when developing economies started to relax their capital account and allowed the entry of foreign investments. Over the years, various macroeconomic (country-specific and global), firm-specific, and quality factors have been studied as determinants in relation to these flows, Still, there is no consensus regarding which factor influences more than the others. This paper uses bibliometric analysis to understand the existing literature to build a solid conceptual base in this research topic. For this study, bibliometric data of 731 …

Import Substitution Industrialization In Africa: Guinea's Experience, Mamadou Saliou Diallo

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

Import substitution industrialization (ISI) is such a template that many countries lagging behind in terms of development considered as an essential phase. The process of adopting ISI by these countries, however, displays contrasts in many aspects. The more apparent cases of differences in ISI adoption emanate from the East-Asian and Sub-Saharan African (SSA) models. These two regions are both latecomers in that industrial revolution, compared to Latin American countries being pioneers, was a chronologically later undertaking. Despite constraining factors, the East-Asian model thrives to become a successful experience. Meanwhile, SSA and Latin American countries still strive to achieve this ambition. …

Absolute Extraction: Utilizing Rural Critical Criminology To Examine Appalachia’S Toxic Dependence On Extractive Industries, Andrew Kennedy Dec 2025

Absolute Extraction: Utilizing Rural Critical Criminology To Examine Appalachia’S Toxic Dependence On Extractive Industries, Andrew Kennedy

The Mid-Southern Journal of Criminal Justice

Brought forth by common rhetoric, Appalachia is often viewed as the closest space to that of an empyrean domain. Separated from the sleepless city, its allure rests in its created identity of a quiet, green escape from the city, which offers serenity on all fronts. Although Appalachia can fulfill this profile, such an ascension ignores the burning yellow grass below. The purpose of this paper is to examine the history of the destruction of Appalachia through the lens of extractive industries and the region’s designation as a sacrifice zone. Through the application of rural critical criminology, this paper holds that …

Effective Strategies For Minimizing Employee Turnover To Enhance Profitability In Micro, Small, And Medium Enterprises, Catherine Nyambura Mbugua

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract Employee turnover in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is a persistent business problem that can negatively impact financial performance. Business owners are concerned about employee turnover because it disrupts operations, weakens customer relationships, and reduces profitability. Grounded in social exchange theory, the purpose of this qualitative, pragmatic inquiry was to explore the strategies that business owners use to minimize employee turnover and enhance profitability. The participants were six business owners of MSMEs who successfully implemented practices that reduced employee turnover. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and a review of organizational documents related to employee management and retention. …

Building Bridges: Industrial Trade Unions In A Changing Climate, Nicole Möller Dec 2025

Building Bridges: Industrial Trade Unions In A Changing Climate, Nicole Möller

Dissertations - ALL

This dissertation examines how German industrial trade unions and workers in the automobile and coal industries navigate the profound challenges of the green transition. Workers’ experiences are situated within a broader political-economic context shaped partly by market-led decarbonization efforts, welfare retrenchment/austerity, erosion of progressive institutions in society, and global competition, as well as a global restructuring of value accumulation. The analysis critically engages with unions’ current responses to a market-led transition and their implications for labor’s future. The dissertation develops its argument across three empirical chapters. Chapter 2 investigates workplace-level changes in coal mining and automobile production, analyzing how workers …

Do Digital Transformation And Macroeconomic Stability Matter For The Asean's Economic Growth?, Sri Andaiyani, Abdul Bashir, Ichsan Hamidi

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

This work assesses the association between digital transformation, macroeconomic stability, and economic growth. We employ yearly data from 2010 to 2021 in ASEAN countries. The findings show digital transformation and macroeconomic stability can increase in GDP in the long term. Digital transformation contributes favorably and substantially, while macroeconomic stability negatively and significantly affects economic growth in the short-term. The study reveals causal link between digital transformation and macroeconomic stability, causality from digital transformation to economic growth, and economic growth to macroeconomic stability. This implies that digital transformation is the engine of growth.

Immigration And Public Support For Social Policy: Accounting For The Gender Composition Of Immigrant Populations, Achim Edelmann, Friedolin Merhout, Amie Bostic Dec 2025

Immigration And Public Support For Social Policy: Accounting For The Gender Composition Of Immigrant Populations, Achim Edelmann, Friedolin Merhout, Amie Bostic

Sociology Faculty Publications

With increasing global mobility, scholars have debated whether immigration undermines welfare states. So far, no conclusive evidence of a consistent association between immigration and social policy support has emerged. This might be due to treating immigrants as a monolithic mass. To begin addressing this, the authors account for the gender composition of immigrant populations. Drawing on research on attitudes toward immigration, immigration policy, and gendered tropes of immigrants, the authors develop two hypotheses detailing how the share of women among immigrants moderates that population’s impact on individuals’ social policy support. Testing these hypotheses on International Social Survey Programme and United …

“The Being Of Being Creative” In Assessment: Learning From The Creative And Performing Arts, Eliana Elkhoury

Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education

Assessment design shapes not only what students learn, but who they become as learners. In the era of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), where information is abundant and recall is easily outsourced, higher education assessment must move beyond memorization and toward authentic tasks that cultivate deeper learning and ontological growth. This conceptual, reflective paper argues that assessment should be grounded in students’ mode of being, rather than restricted to knowing, having, or doing. Drawing on Barnett’s ontology of higher education, Biesta’s subjectification, and Su’s epistemological distinctions, this paper positions assessment as a formative site where agency, ownership, identity, and self-understanding can …

The Being Of The Performer, Alice Marshall

Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education

This work presents an autoethnographic, practice-as-research inquiry into Tender Steps (Adaire to Dance, 2024), a dance-for-film grounded in the author’s lived experience of baby loss. Through embodied reflection, the article explores how personal experience becomes a site of inquiry, examining the relationship between the performer’s being and the act of performance. Drawing on phenomenological and performance-based perspectives, it considers how posture, weight, breath, and voice function as embodied knowledge and how meaning is co-constructed through the intersubjective relationship between performer and audience. It reflects on the ethical and emotional implications of making lived experience public within a digitally mediated form …

Nurse Practitioner-Led Mobile Clinics: A Lifeline For Underserved Communities, Michelle Hepburn Dec 2025

Nurse Practitioner-Led Mobile Clinics: A Lifeline For Underserved Communities, Michelle Hepburn

DNP Qualifying Manuscripts

Traditional brick-and-mortar clinics have failed underserved populations, especially those who are unhoused, living with serious mental illness or experiencing substance use disorders. Nurse practitioner (NP)-led mobile health clinics (MHC) offer an exceptional opportunity to impact healthcare for underserved populations. This model addresses the constructs of social determinants of health replacing episodic care with longitudinal outreach. It offers an equitable and scalable model that is transformative; reducing disparities, and promoting sustainable health outcomes for underserved populations, and it creates a pathway that reduces avoidable emergency department visits and advances health equity.

Killing Like A State: Explaining The Edge Cases Of Rebel Perpetration Of Wartime Genocidal Violence, Cheng Xu Dec 2025

Killing Like A State: Explaining The Edge Cases Of Rebel Perpetration Of Wartime Genocidal Violence, Cheng Xu

Government: Faculty Publications

Genocide scholarship overwhelmingly identifies states as the primary perpetrators of genocidal violence. While non-state armed groups, particularly pro-government militias, have been implicated in genocide, rebel-perpetrated wartime genocidal violence remains exceedingly rare. This paper argues that state-centric explanations of genocide can be exported to explain these edge cases. I argue that four high-threshold conditions must align for rebels to commit wartime genocidal violence: (1) effective territorial control, (2) the dispensability of civilian support, (3) a rigid and exclusionary ideological program, and (4) perceptions of threat, typically constitutive rather than military, where the target group is framed as incompatible with the nascent …

Beyond The Human–Animal Transformation In Hasan Aourid’S SīRat ḤImāR And Rawi Hage’S Cockroach, Noha Hanafy Dec 2025

Beyond The Human–Animal Transformation In Hasan Aourid’S SīRat ḤImāR And Rawi Hage’S Cockroach, Noha Hanafy

English Language and Literature

The paper examines the human-animal transformation as a marker of identity explo-

ration in Moroccan writer Hassan Aourid’s Sīrat Ḥimār (2014 سيرة حمار) and Lebanese

Canadian writer Rawi Hage’s Cockroach (2008). The two texts employ the concept of

the human-animal transformation to highlight the complexity of the marginalized

existence in the world. Both texts present nuanced versions of the human-animal

transformation which renders the experience both emancipatory and destabilizing at

the same time. Using the theoretical framework of Deleuze and Guattari’s work on

becoming-animal and the deterritorialization of existence along with Derrida’s discus-

sion of the anthropocentric limit, the paper …

Debunking The Myth: A Dive Into The Role Of Relational Capital In Sustainable Food Production Systems, Ismail Badraoui, Tarik Saikouk, Nejib Fattam, Ahmed Hamdi, Vikas Kumar

All Works

The shift towards sustainable food production is essential to address the urgent dual challenges of climate change and population growth, with agricultural cooperatives playing a vital role in this transformation. However, many cooperatives struggle to deliver the expected value to their members. By considering cooperatives as member-centred production systems, this research investigates relational capital's role in determining cooperative success. This study uses a sequential mixed-methods research approach. First, we use empirical survey data from 320 farmers to test a moderated mediation model that links relational capital to collaboration activities and outcomes. Then, we use qualitative responses from 50 farmers to …

A Crappy Job: Understanding Septic System Engagement In Rural Great Lakes Communities, Amanda Buday Dec 2025

A Crappy Job: Understanding Septic System Engagement In Rural Great Lakes Communities, Amanda Buday

Journal of Contemporary Water Research and Education

This study analyzes survey data from three eastern Lake Michigan watersheds to understand how rural homeowners engage in onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) maintenance. Responses about awareness and use of best management practices (BMPs), knowledge of system age, and barriers to recommended maintenance were used to develop a behavioral typology of homeowner engagement, with profiles ranging from proactive maintenance to passive noncompliance. This typology was then used to examine how management styles vary across geographic context, sociodemographic factors, and support for policy tools to promote proactive system care. While many homeowners report following recommended OWTS practices – even when facing …
