Given the growing global interest in Healthy Longevity Medicine (HLM), the field lacks understanding about public knowledge and interest, which are crucial for any public health intervention relying on HLM. This study presents findings from the Healthy Longevity (HELO) survey conducted in Singapore, assessing public knowledge regarding lifespan (number of years a person is alive), healthspan (number of years a person spends in good health), and interest in HLM. This nationwide cross-sectional survey, conducted between June and August 2024, involved 3034 participants. Main domains including questions on demographics, living arrangements, medical information, health behaviours, income and financial status were tested …

AIM
The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between work efforts and rewards with intention to leave and burnout among full-time nurse educators.
BACKGROUND
The nursing faculty shortage is a contributor to the nursing shortage. Poor balance between work efforts and rewards may contribute to intention to leave.
METHOD
A cross-sectional survey of US nurse faculty examined work efforts, rewards, burnout, and intention to leave. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the relationships among variables.
RESULTS
Among 588 participants, efforts and rewards both had significant effects on burnout. Burnout and rewards had significant effects on intention …

Gendered Organising: Decolonial Feminist Epistemologies From Marginalised Women Textile Traders In Southwest Nigeria, Irenitemi Gbemisola Abolade
Doctoral
For decades, discourse has been constructed for and about Nigerian women, rather than in dialogue with them, despite their rich worldview rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems. Empirical studies have consistently focused on Europe and America as sources of knowledge production, while treating the Global South as the object of knowledge. As a result, little is known about how work and organising/organisation are done, particularly in the informal economy. This study, Gendered Organising: Decolonial Feminist Epistemologies from marginalised women, introduced us to the lived experiences of women textile traders in Southwest Nigeria. It explores how these women's gendered organising practices contribute …

Introduction: About 20% of police calls involve a person experiencing a behavioral health crisis. To better address these community member’s needs and reduce risk of harm, jurisdictions are developing programs that shift calls for crises related to homelessness, addiction, and mental health to non-law enforcement alternatives. In responding to these calls, first responders working in these alternative response programs are exposed to a different set of moral dilemmas and pressures, increasing their risk of developing moral injury. Methods: The Alternative Response Program Moral Injury and Burnout Model highlights causes of exposure to potentially morally injurious events and the interplay between …
Understanding The Experiences And Visibility Of Asexual People And Guiding Policy To Effectively Protect Asexuality, Lizzie Stravens
Understanding The Experiences And Visibility Of Asexual People And Guiding Policy To Effectively Protect Asexuality, Lizzie Stravens
University Honors Theses
Asexuality is sexual orientation defined by those who experience little to no sexual attraction. Despite asexuality being as common as red headedness or left handedness, it has been severely overlooked in research and conversations. Because many people are not aware of the existence of asexuality, it has not been directly attacked by anti-queer campaigns. Still, there have been some recent shifts in this dynamic as asexuality becomes more visible. I conducted a linear regression on the 2022 Ace Community Survey results. I analyzed the effect of theoretically important variables on the outness of asexual respondents. Results indicated an importance on …
Cyborgs In The Chat: Technological Objects And Sociotechnical Interaction On Twitch.Tv, Yanro Judd C. Ferrer
Cyborgs In The Chat: Technological Objects And Sociotechnical Interaction On Twitch.Tv, Yanro Judd C. Ferrer
Sociology & Anthropology Department Faculty Publications
This paper introduces the concept of Cyborgification, derived from the metaphor cyborg of Donna Haraway, to analyze how technological objects, such as emotes, bots, and third-party extensions, co-construct social life on Twitch.tv. Drawing on digital ethnography and interviews, it examines how viewers and streamers interact not just with each other but with the platform’s technical features in the production of humor, identity, and belonging. Through three scenes, a media-triggered emote ritual, a bot glitch turned joke, and an outsider’s exclusion due to missing plug-ins, this work shows how technological entanglement shapes participation. Cyborgification offers a sociotechnical lens that moves beyond …
Women’S Agency And Pleasure (Wap): Toward A Black Feminist Theory Of Sexuality, Jelisa S. Clark, Erica Campbell
Women’S Agency And Pleasure (Wap): Toward A Black Feminist Theory Of Sexuality, Jelisa S. Clark, Erica Campbell
Journal of Research Initiatives
Black feminist theory has identified sexuality as a site of oppression for Black women, however, there has been limited attention to Black women’s pleasure. We suggest that WAP by Cardi B and Meg the Stallion provides a conceptual lens through which Black women's sexuality can be more humanely envisioned. WAP, in the tradition established by Black women in the blues, represents Black feminist theorizing about sexuality. Themes of Cultivating Community and Developing Voice through Self-Definition are central to discussions of Black women's pleasure. In this work, we bridge academic theorizing and Black women's cultural productions to reinvigorate Black feminist theorizing …

Language Analysis Of "Gaslight" And "Narcissist" As Seen On Tiktok, Aaren Fernandez
Journal of Research Initiatives
TikTok is a popular social media platform from which users frequently obtain information. Specifically, psychological concepts such as anxiety, depression, and related conditions are becoming popular vernacular on TikTok through trends such as "story times." However, the accuracy of these terms' usage requires examination. In this qualitative analysis of TikTok posts and comments under the hashtags #gaslight and #narcissist, it was found that videos under these hashtags often originated from users attempting to warn viewers about psychological traits that align with common diagnostic language. However, comments under these videos tended to use these terms in a more casual sense than …

Digital Practices Among Young Oasis Women: Tailor-Made Internet Connections, Douha Ejjaouani, Zakaria Kadiri
Continuity And Change: Spaces Of Power, Narrative Discourses, And Territorial Challenges In Morocco, Nadia Kaaouas
Continuity And Change: Spaces Of Power, Narrative Discourses, And Territorial Challenges In Morocco, Nadia Kaaouas
Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)
This volume explores the reconfigurations of social, narrative, and linguistic structures in Morocco and Africa through a multidisciplinary lens. By combining literary analysis (subversion of codes), development sociology (INDH), and gender studies (digital agency), the contributions decrypt the tension between institutional persistence and emancipatory praxis. Drawing on a rigorous qualitative methodology, this work examines the capacity of actors to reinvest in power spaces and vectors of symbolic capital.
Gender Inequalities In Morocco: Between Attempts At Destabilization And Patriarchal Continuity, Osire Glacier
Gender Inequalities In Morocco: Between Attempts At Destabilization And Patriarchal Continuity, Osire Glacier
Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)
This text explores gender inequalities in Morocco by articulating patriarchal continuity and attempts at destabilization through gender studies. It takes as its starting point the pioneering initiative of Fatima Sadiqi, who founded the first women's research center (1996) and the first gender studies unit (2000) at the University of Fez. These structures aimed to introduce the concept of gender into the humanities and social sciences to deconstruct sociocultural obstacles to equality. Since then, the integration of similar programs in other universities has strengthened the visibility of these issues in higher education. Based on a discourse analysis of representations of women, …

Social Media And E-Cigarette Use In Youth: Does Depression Play A Mediating Role?, Soumya Upadhyay, Mohammad Karim, Shivank Chhaya
Healthcare Administration and Policy Faculty Research
About 28% of middle and high school students report the use of e-cigarettes per the 2019 NYTS survey. Social media can seclude a youth into limited set of beliefs, including affirmation for e-cigarette use. Internalizing problems like depression may be due to overuse of social media, and youth with depressive symptoms are more likely to use e-cigarettes to cope. National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) 2023 data was used (n = 18 143) in a cross-sectional design. Ever e-cigarette use was the binary (Y/N) dependent variable. Independent variable, social media use, was categorized as “never,” “nondaily,” “daily.” Mediator variable, presence of …

“Care Work” In Facilitative Mediation: Interactional Techniques For Emotional Support In The Context Of Conflict Resolution, Angela Garcia
Natural & Applied Sciences Faculty Publications
This paper investigates how facilitative mediators use “care work” techniques when participants display emotional or relational concerns during the session. Conversation analysis is used to analyze a pre-existing dataset of video-recorded small claims and divorce mediation sessions. Techniques the mediators used to do care work include reflection, topic refocusing, complimenting, role modeling, and coaching. The analysis shows how the trajectory of the talk in the mediation session is impacted by care work. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for the mediator’s role and the effectiveness of the interaction for the conflict resolution process in mediation.

Influence Of Time Management Skills And Technostress On Academic Performance Among The Private University Students: A Conceptual Framework, Jogtika Ramasamy, Nasreen Khan Thandar Oo
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
Digital tools enhance learning but can also cause technostress, which can impact focus and academic performance. Balancing technology use with effective time management and social engagement is key to student success. Students in Malaysia's Klang Valley reported increased feelings of loneliness, mental health issues, and technostress, particularly as a result of the shift to online learning. This study aims to propose a conceptual framework based on the Study Demand-Resources Theory, examining how time management skills and technostress dimensions influence academic performance through the mediating role of student engagement. A quantitative and cross-sectional survey will be conducted by distributing Likert scale …

Cumulative Disadvantage: Ethnic Inequalities In Criminal Court Proceedings In England And Wales, Kitty Lymperopoulou
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
Scholarship on ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system has predominantly focused on disparities at a single decision-making point, mainly at sentencing, while earlier decision points remain underexamined or are studied in isolation to sentencing decisions. Using linked Ministry of Justice Data First datasets from criminal courts in England and Wales, this study assesses ethnic disparities at multiple decision points—from pre-sentencing to sentencing. Findings from multilevel logistic regression models demonstrate ethnic disparities across decision points, evidencing more pronounced disparities at pre-sentencing stages. Black and mixed ethnicity defendants consistently experience more disadvantaged outcomes, being more likely to be detained prior to …

Lines In The Sky: American Air Defense Strategy 1950-1958, Jacob A. Battle
Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History
In August 1949, the Soviet Union detonated its first atomic bomb, abruptly ending the American monopoly on nuclear weapons. While many in the Truman administration had believed that no other nation could construct the bomb, war planners were now faced with the possibility of an "atomic Pearl Harbor". In response, NSC-68 would be published, granting an unprecedented level of attention and investment to developing air defense measures. Throughout the following decade, new command structures coincided with rapid developments in radar, aircraft, and missile technology. Furthermore, the development of the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) integrated radar, interceptors, and Nike missile systems …

Marked For Prosecution: The Use Of Tattoo Recognition Technology In Criminal Trials And The Case For Evidentiary Limits, Marc Consalo
Mercer Law Review
In recent years, tattoos have taken on a new and largely overlooked role in our criminal trial system. Once viewed primarily as personal or cultural expression, tattoos are now treated by law enforcement as biometric data which can be analyzed, codified, and then searched by artificial intelligence (“AI”). Police departments and prosecutorial offices have begun using tattoo recognition software to identify suspects, assume gang membership, and establish guilt based on imagery or symbols. Yet, despite the rapid growth of this technology, its use in the courtroom has received almost no scholarly attention and even less judicial scrutiny.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a leading cause of gynecological cancer mortality and is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, resulting in poor survival outcomes. Access to specialized gynecological oncology services has been associated with improved prognosis; however, data on its impact in Indonesia remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the association between gynecologic oncologist (GO) services and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with EOC. This retrospective cohort study included 76 patients with EOC who were treated at a national cancer hospital in Jakarta between 2015 and 2018. Patient data were obtained from medical records and followed for three …

Parents’ Lived Experiences With Competitive Integrated Employment For Children With Intellectual And Developmental Disability, Dr. Aisha J. Omar
Developmental Disabilities Network Journal
This phenomenological qualitative study explores the lived experiences of Kentucky parents seeking Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) for their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Guided by the research questions—How do parents experience this process, and what barriers or supports do they encounter?—the study highlights systemic challenges despite legislative efforts such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. In-depth interviews with five parents revealed three themes: (a) parental transformation and the pursuit of meaningful work, (b) systemic challenges in accessing CIE, and (c) overcoming protective instincts: navigating fear, independence, and self-advocacy. Findings suggest a …
