Can Financialisation Counteract Banking Exclusion? A Study On The Example Of The European Union Member States, Tomasz Florczak, Marika Ziemba
Journal of Banking and Financial Economics
The purpose of the article is to assess the relationship between financialization and banking exclusion. The research hypothesis that financialization contributes to the reduction of financial exclusion was also verified. The research was based on an analysis of the variables describing financialization and banking exclusion of 27 European Union countries in the 2014–2021 period. The zero-unitarization method and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used. The results of the study indicate that a high degree of financialization is found in Croatia, Greece, Cyprus and Portugal. In contrast, the level of banking exclusion is the highest in Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Latvia. …

Performance Feedback Influence On Special Education Teacher Self-Efficacy, Margaret Stout
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative true experimental pretest posttest design research study was conducted to determine the effect two types of performance feedback had on overall special education teacher efficacy and instructional strategies efficacy. Determining the effect is important because teacher efficacy positively impacts student academic outcomes. In-service public school special education teachers who teach students with low incidence disabilities from Virginia were randomly assigned to two different virtual trainings where the Teachers Sense of Efficacy Scale was used as both the pre-training and post-training instrument. An ANCOVA was performed on the data resulting in the first null hypothesis being rejected and the …
Pedagogical Disruptive Innovations And Positive Deviance During Covid-19 Mandatory School Closures: A Case Study Of Public-School Teachers In San Juan County, New Mexico, David R. Mcgee
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to discover and describe the types of positive deviance and disruptive innovation during the non-voluntary transition to remote learning for teachers from San Juan County, New Mexico. This study investigated how classroom teachers altered their pedagogical practices from their face-to-face classroom juxtaposed to their non-voluntary transition to the remote classroom. Positive deviance is defined as any outcome is unique, non-normative, extraordinary, uncommon, and honorable and is perceived as positive to the organization. Disruptive innovation is a business theory that explains how a good enough innovation can be pushed through as a …

African, American, And Southern: The Survivors Of The Clotilda And The Wanderer, Kirsten Chaney
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life experiences of first-generation enslaved Africans illegally brought to the United States of America after the passage of the 1808 Act Prohibiting the Importation of Enslaved Persons to the United States of America. The life experiences of those brought to the United States on board ships such as the Clotilda and the Wanderer create a stark contrast to the life experiences of multigenerational enslaved persons. The difference and Americanization can be viewed through the organization of the freedmen towns founded by each group, the education level achieved by the descendants of …

Transnational(Izing) African Communication: A Post-/Decolonial Approach To Nollywood And Globalization, Tomide Oloruntobi
Transnational(Izing) African Communication: A Post-/Decolonial Approach To Nollywood And Globalization, Tomide Oloruntobi
Communication ETDs
In this dissertation, I examine culture and communication in transnational Nigeria, focusing on Nollywood and its industrial politics. Through a critical ethnographic examination of Nollywood’s reception among global and transnational audiences, I critique the evolving patterns of difference, power, and politics informing production, distribution, consumption, and performance/communication of otherness. With four composite dimensions of decoloniality: structural, epistemic, personal, and relational as theoretical foundation, I analyzed observations and interviews with 21 transnational Nigerians, online focus group discussions, user reviews, movies/series, and blogposts. I discuss the emergent themes of coloniality of space, mobility, and culture; re-making of racial otherness and hetero-patriarchy/normativity; cultural …
Imaginaries, Scenarios, And Materialities: The Arts As Part Of Ecology, Peter J. Schneemann
Imaginaries, Scenarios, And Materialities: The Arts As Part Of Ecology, Peter J. Schneemann
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
This contribution seeks to identify some of the methodological implications and challenges for art history as a discipline when confronted with the ecological imperative. There are clear societal expectations to ecological questions, approaches, and attitudes and a new rhetoric by artists and also scientists that anticipates the necessity of an ethical stand. The shift towards notions like sustainability was so fast and so radical, I argue, that we ought to take time to step back and reflect on its implications. I am especially interested in the intersection between the ethical dimension we now apply to artistic production (as a …

Reflections On Fieldwork In Romania: Subjectivities, Risks, Benefits, And Ethics, Georgeta Stoian Connor
Reflections On Fieldwork In Romania: Subjectivities, Risks, Benefits, And Ethics, Georgeta Stoian Connor
The Geographical Bulletin
Romania, one of the largest and most ruralized Eastern European countries, has a very complex agrarian history: from the traditional free communal villages and serfdom to the communist collective farms, followed by the agricultural alignment to the Common Agricultural Policy. Because the European Union (EU) has had a preconceived vision of what a modern agricultural landscape should look like, when this vision has been implemented within Romania’s agricultural landscape, it has produced deeply contradictory outcomes. In this context, by examining the archive records and information from extended fieldwork in Romania, this study investigates how Romania’s efforts to join the EU …

Sharing Of Children’S Health Data By Health Professionals And Parents – A Consideration Of Legal Duties, Dr. Carolyn Johnston
Indian Journal of Law and Technology
Children’s health data such as blood pressure, X-rays and written notes of medical examinations are produced in a clinical setting through health professionals’ interaction with their minor patients. Health care practitioners owe legal and professional obligations not to disclose such information without consent or other legally recognised authorisation. With the increasing advent of data generated by patients themselves from wearable devices such as continuous glucose monitors and health apps, the patient, or parents, have initial control of the data and decide who to share it with. Where wearable devices have been provided to parents by the child’s health care provider …

Becoming An Active Anti-Racist: Exploring The Role Of White Critical Consciousness Development, Alexandria Heilmann Littlejohn
Becoming An Active Anti-Racist: Exploring The Role Of White Critical Consciousness Development, Alexandria Heilmann Littlejohn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The development of white individuals’ critical consciousness may play a role in fostering an anti-racist orientation and increasing engagement in anti-racism activism efforts, ultimately aiding in counteracting the deleterious effects of racism and oppression in the United States. The prevalence of whites upholding whiteness, white supremacy, and systems of power and oppression is well-documented yet there is little literature on how critical consciousness and an anti-racist orientation develops in white young adults. This constructivist grounded theory qualitative study addresses this gap by exploring the perceived life experiences that were influential on six white young adults' critical consciousness development and how …

The Imposter Phenomenon In Graduate Students: A Social Constructionist Perspective Using Narrative Inquiry, Colin Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
A narrative inquiry study explored six graduate students’ experiences of "imposter syndrome” during their graduate studies. Semi-structured interviews occurred with each participant at two time points: one initial interview and a follow-up interview to discuss the impact of the initial interview and to perform member checking. Each interview was analyzed individually to create summative narrative of their unique experiences of imposter feelings. Interviews were also analyzed on a study-wide level to explore common threads of the “imposter syndrome” in graduate school. Results suggested imposter feelings in graduate students were related to the ability to discuss imposter feelings with others, program …
Emotional Capital And Compassionate Educational Space: Reflection On One Undergraduate Course, Katerina Bodovski
Emotional Capital And Compassionate Educational Space: Reflection On One Undergraduate Course, Katerina Bodovski
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
In this essay, I reflect upon my experience of creating and teaching a new undergraduate course, Students, Parents, Schools. I look at the course content and process through the lens of emotional capital. While being one of the themes in the course, emotional capital is also developed for the students within the class itself. I identified four aspects of the course that can be linked to building emotional capital: bringing focus to oneself; encouraging students to capitalize on their own experiences; building meaningful connections; and creating a non-punitive environment. I discuss each of the aspects, illustrating them where appropriate …
Compassionate Care In Elementary General Music Teaching And Learning As A Way To Respond To The World: A Narrative Inquiry, Julia K. Church Hoffman
Compassionate Care In Elementary General Music Teaching And Learning As A Way To Respond To The World: A Narrative Inquiry, Julia K. Church Hoffman
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
In this narrative inquiry, where stories were the data, three experienced music teachers from one public school district in the southwestern United States shared stories about their experiences as elementary general music teachers. The stories were told through the lens of compassionate care, a perspective that implies a shared experience between teacher and learners (Hendricks, 2018, 2023). The stories, and my interpretation of them, revealed an understanding of elementary general music, a multimodal, fun, school subject, as a vehicle for teaching children how to be kind and respectful humans. Threads that emerged from the stories linked connections between compassionate care, …

Staff And Provider Perspectives On A Low-Barrier Buprenorphine Program In Portland, Maine, Emily Follo
Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) Theses
Background: Homelessness and opioid use disorder are at the forefront of public health issues in Maine. Substance use accounts for a higher proportion of deaths among those experiencing homelessness than it does in the overall population. In 2022, Maine ranked third in the U.S. for fatal overdoses involving opioids. The clinic at the center of this evaluation is a low-barrier buprenorphine bridge program serving people experiencing homelessness that provides same-day prescriptions and other supports, while connecting patients to ongoing care for substance use disorder. Methods: This was a qualitative program evaluation that used semi-structured key informant interviews. The evaluation focused …
Ethnodoxy And Immigration Attitudes In The Middle East/North Africa, Hannah M. Ridge
Ethnodoxy And Immigration Attitudes In The Middle East/North Africa, Hannah M. Ridge
Political Science Faculty Articles and Research
Migration is a prevalent social concern in the Middle East/North Africa. In addition to emigration, the countries struggle to incorporate immigrant and transiting populations. This article examines the influence of ethnodoxy—the linking of Arab and Muslim identity—on public opinion on immigrants and migration in the MENA region. Using original surveys of Egyptian and Moroccan Muslims from February and May–June 2023, it shows the more ethnodoxic respondents are, the more likely they are to hold anti-immigrant views. These results are consistent with the principle that social identity complexity encourages tolerance and change acceptance. Thus, this study contributes to the growing literature …
Using Triangulation And Crystallization To Make Qualitative Studies Trustworthy And Rigorous, Hani Morgan
Using Triangulation And Crystallization To Make Qualitative Studies Trustworthy And Rigorous, Hani Morgan
The Qualitative Report
Qualitative research is often criticized for lacking rigor and consisting of opinions that result from researcher bias. But like well-designed quantitative research, qualitative studies can be trustworthy. Qualitative researchers generally agree that some practices, such as triangulation, can be used to increase the credibility of the kind of research they conduct. Unfortunately, many researchers are confused about or unaware of the different types of triangulation strategies, leading them to write papers without accurately identifying which ones they used. Triangulation is also a contested approach for many qualitative researchers because it is oftentimes associated with a post-positivist paradigm. Unlike quantitative researchers, …

Breaking The Sound Barrier: Strategies For Reducing The Educational Debt In Underserved School Bands, Alfonzo V. Kimbrough
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this multiple explanatory case study was to investigate the preparation of underserved school band programs for a Music Performance Assessment (MPA). Specifically, I examined racial, economic, and social inequalities, which are well documented in the research literature, and the related achievement gaps of underserved public school bands. Using Ladson-Billings’ four pillars of educational debt, a replication approach highlighted four cases as a small sample of the success rate of Title I school bands scoring a Superior at an MPA contest. I compared how contextual issues impacted the four band directors at these schools in preparations for their …
