Repositioning North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato): The New Security Dilemma On Trans–Atlantic Relations Amid Shifting Global Geopolitics, Daniel C. George, Indra Alverdian

Journal of Strategic and Global Studies

The shifting global geopolitics have led to a new security dilemma in Europe, especially in trans–Atlantic relations. NATO as the vanguard of the trans–Atlantic defense pact is faced with transitional conditions of non-conventional threats that return to conventional threats. Due to the shift in the new global order, these threats require a repositioning for NATO to counter the new security dilemma amidst shifting global geopolitics. By referring to the three asserted pillars–the return of conventional warfare on the European continent; a more assertive Russia in the European continent under Vladimir Putin; and the geopolitical of China's rise impacted trans–-Atlantic …

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis analyzes two Egyptian poetry magazines, al-Jarād and Khamāsīn, to enrich critical understanding of the Egyptian literary 1990s. It uses The Rules of Art: Genesis and Structure of the Literary Field (Les Règles de l’art: Genèse et structure du champ littéraire), Pierre Bourdieu’s 1992 sociological study of the literary field, as a theoretical framework. Numerous scholars have noted that the “nineties generation” is known for its aversion to politics, ideologies, and collectivities; its rupture with stylistic and thematic conventions of its predecessors; and its turn away from the “major issues” (al-qaḍāyah al-kubrā) of the …

Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi

Youth and social media are increasingly intertwined, as their socio-cultural trajectories accelerate digital connectedness and intensify the contestation of diverse identities. Posting on social media has thus become a ritualized practice. This article explores how Indonesian university students construct identities by sharing achievement stories and success narratives on Instagram. Using qualitative data, it examines the experiences of students who have excelled in academic competitions. The study identifies two key typologies behind such posts. Firstly, personal determinism, aimed at self- reward and self-branding. Secondly, social motivation, focused on inspiring peers and building supportive networks to achieve academic success. The Right To Truth In Transitional Justice, Nouran Hassan

Theses and Dissertations

Transitional justice is sought by nations suffering from legacies of human rights violations. The field of transitional justice stands on four main pillars: truth seeking, criminal justice, reparations and guarantees of non-recurrence. It promotes utilizing legal and non-legal mechanisms to achieve a transition to democracy and the mechanisms employed must relate to, at least, one of its pillars. Truth is considered substantial for transitions to happen. Revealing the truth is believed to be essential for reconciliation and promoting peace. However, in various experiences the truth did not lead to reconciliation and was widely distorted. The approach of the transitional justice …

Minor Role Iii: Youth Under Age 18 And New York City Violence, Jeffrey A. Butts, Gina Moreno

Publications and Research

Researchers at the John Jay College Research and Evaluation Center analyzed NYPD arrest data from 2006 to 2024 to assess trends in felony assault, felony robbery, and felony weapon offenses across age groups. The study examined whether New York’s “Raise the Age” law, which shifted most youth under 18 out of adult court, influenced violent crime patterns. Although arrests rose across all age groups following the COVID-19 pandemic, trends among youth under 18 generally mirrored those of older age groups. The findings suggest no clear evidence that the law caused a youth-specific increase in violent crime.

Their existence is compelling evidence of the church's strengthened position, the growing social role of religion, and the increased activity of religious organizations within Ukrainian society. Interfaith councils, which engage in a broad range of interests and activities, have facilitated …

Urban Poverty And The Underclass Revisited: "Debates Within" The Underclass Debate., Eugene J. Palka

The Geographical Bulletin

Urban poverty and the "underclass" remain politically and emotionally charged topics among academicians and political analysts concerned with American urban affairs. Geographers, however, have not been central to the main debates. The latter trend is perplexing, given the spatially concentrated nature of the underclass problem. This paper provides a synthetic review of the urban underclass concept and a distillation of the underclass debate in order to describe the complex and multifaceted problems associated with the urban underclass, and to illuminate themes which may be of interest to geographers. Urban poverty is more concentrated today, and hence, more geographically distinct than …

Nevertheless, this has kept the number of students enrolling at IAIN Lhokseumawe. Over the past five years, the number of students at IAIN Lhokseumawe has fluctuated. The data indicate a need for more linearity in the fan and subscriber trends. Following the implementation of the promotional strategy, the outcome remained unchanged. Consequently, IAIN Lhokseumawe must re-examine the rationale behind student decision-making processes when selecting educational institutions. This approach will allow IAIN Lhokseumawe to develop innovative strategies to increase student …
