Divisions And Differences In Qualitative And Quantitative Research - A Critical View, Fahad Mohammed Alammar

Scientific Journal of King Faisal University: Humanities and Management Sciences

Despite the importance of qualitative research within the social sciences, a close observer of scientific research will notice a tendency towards quantitative research in our educational institutions and Arabic-refereed journals. This bias is usually justified based on the pretext that qualitative research is less rigorous and scientific than quantitative research. This tendency has led to a scarcity of qualitative research compared to quantitative research, thus depriving society of the benefit of the rich data qualitative research could provide. As a result, this research has investigated the causes of this phenomenon within its historical and philosophical contexts. It has also reviewed …

White Antiracists: Everyday Antiracism And White Fragility Among Racially Progressive White Americans, Buffy Renea Duncan, Jaclyn Wong Ph.D

Caravel Undergraduate Research Journal

Despite the abolition of slavery and Jim Crow laws, racial inequity persists. Bonilla-Silva (2017) suggests that colorblind racism, or the assertion that race does not matter for one’s life chances, has perpetuated anti-Black racial inequality since the Civil Rights Movement. Now, through antiracist efforts such as the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, White Americans are increasingly expanding their notions of racism to include the subtle, institutional racial discrimination associated with colorblind ideologies (Crass 2015). A rejection of “colorblind” thinking places Whites in a position to address systems of White supremacy, both in themselves and the world around them, but it …

Maternal Depressive Symptoms Predicting Development Of Internalizing Behavior Problems In Boys With Fragile X Syndrome, Sara Deal, Mary Blair Dellinger

Child internalizing behaviors were measured in 49 male children with FXS (range 1.08-5.75 yrs). Maternal depressive symptoms were measured in each of their mothers with the FMR1 premutation (range 20.55-40.74 yrs). Increased …

Knowledge Of Advance Care Planning And Advance Directives Among Us Adults: Implications For Health Policy And Practice, Anisah Bagasra, Gretchen Agans

Faculty Articles

Background:

Advance care planning (ACP) is the process of identifying and communicating values and goals in preparation for future shared decision-making in medical settings. Decisions are legally supported by an advance directive (AD) document designating healthcare agent(s) and future medical treatment preferences. Few studies have sought to understand knowledge of and engagement with ACP among the general population in primary care settings and potential barriers to completion of ACP.

Objectives:

This study examined US adults’ …
