Advances In Molecular Imaging For Neuroendocrine Neoplasms, Bradley Girod, Vikas Prasad
Advances In Molecular Imaging For Neuroendocrine Neoplasms, Bradley Girod, Vikas Prasad
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) represent a heterogenous group of tumors with significant inter- and intra-patient variability. Once considered to be rare, neuroendocrine neoplasms are being increasingly recognized through the advent of advanced diagnostic techniques, which may be contributing to the significant increase in the incidence and detection rate of these tumors. NENs can be classified into well differentiated and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) or neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs). The proliferation rate of NETs can vary from Ki-67 1-55%. In addition, the SSTR expression can vary significantly. Because of this high "heterogeneity", their detection and characterization have become essential to disease management, …

Experiences Of Occupational Engagement In Young & Middle-Aged Women Post-Stroke: A Qualitative Systematic Review, Li Kiang Regina Toh, Tanja Križaj
School of Health Professions
Purpose: Young and middle-aged women engage in distinct occupations, facing unique post-stroke challenges that complicate their recovery. However, little is known about their experiences with occupational engagement following a stroke. This qualitative systematic review aimed to explore the post-stroke experiences of women aged 18–65 from an occupational perspective of health. Methods: A comprehensive search of five databases identified qualitative studies on post-stroke experiences of women aged 18–65. Two reviewers independently appraised the methodological quality of eligible studies. Data were extracted and synthesised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) method of meta-aggregation. Results: Seven studies were included. From 103 extracted findings, …

Sars-Cov-2 Nsp15 Enhances Viral Virulence By Subverting Host Antiviral Defenses, Allen Caobi, Tamarand L Darling, Adrianus C M Boon, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
SARS-CoV-2 encodes numerous virulence factors, yet their precise mechanisms of action remain unknown. We provide evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 nonstructural protein 15 (nsp15) enhances viral virulence by suppressing the production of viral double-stranded (dsRNA), a potent inducer of antiviral signaling. The viral variants lacking nsp15 endoribonuclease activity elicited higher innate immune responses and exhibited reduced replication in human stem cell-derived lung alveolar type II epithelial cells, as well as in the lungs of infected hamsters. Consistently, these variants caused significantly less weight loss and mortality compared to wild-type (WT) virus in K18-hACE2 mice. Mechanistically, the cells infected with nsp15 mutants …

Power Zones For Flexible Power Distribution In Data Centers, Jing Wang
Defensive Publications Series
This paper describes a power distribution system for a data center. The power distribution system includes a plurality of power distribution segments, such as bus ducts, dimensioned to deliver a specified maximum current for distributing power to server racks. The power distribution segments may be divided into one or more power zones, which can be activated and inactivated through a plurality of switches that interconnect the power zones. An optional control system can selectively actuate the switches to configure the segments into distinct power distribution configurations. Each configuration may accommodate a different power density requirement for the server racks, enabling …

Rethinking The Philosophy Of Religion: Toward A Better Relationship Between Religion And Science, Jovino De Guzman Miroy
Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture
This paper rethinks the philosophy of religion by asking what it can learn from the less antagonistic and more dialogic relationship between science and religion. Greater heterogeneity amongst student beliefs requires that the philosophy of religion become pluralistic. Moving beyond antagonism, the task of the philosophy of religion is to improve the relationship between religion and science for the better. The paper also probes what it means to study religion scientifically. The reform of the philosophy of religion proposed here means that the field shed its apologetic nature, but continue its project of reason-giving for a synthesis of religious experience. …
How The Immediate Physical Environment Affects The Non-Physical Aspect Of Health, Katryn Noelle E. Valeriano
How The Immediate Physical Environment Affects The Non-Physical Aspect Of Health, Katryn Noelle E. Valeriano
Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture
Human health has been closely intertwined with environmental health. By the term “environment,” I refer not only to nature or relationships found in an ecosystem but also to the immediate physical milieu of an individual or what is termed as “personal space.” Before the pandemic, the notion of personal space was more fluid and receptive due to the ease one had in “re-framing” the environment and reorienting oneself. However, during the pandemic, the personal space of humans was restricted in so many ways through lockdowns and various forms of isolation. This article intends to re-interpret concepts, such as of “physical …

Reviving The Classical Tradition: Philosophical Counseling For The 21st Century, Abhishek Shukla
Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture
This article explores the roots of philosophical counselling in ancient Greek philosophy, which is considered to be a form of spiritual practice. It demonstrates how contemporary philosophical counselling draws directly from ancient practices like Socratic dialogue, Epicureanism, Stoicism, and Scepticism. Importantly, this article argues that although philosophical counselling is not a branch of psychotherapy, but rather a distinct approach with its own unique history. It acknowledges the influence of philosophical forms of psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), which emerged in the late 20th century. These psychotherapeutic approaches, drawing on philosophical principles, contributed …

International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction The re-inclusion of athletes with intellectual impairments (II) in the Paralympic Games in 2012 was a landmark moment for equitable representation in sports1. The representation of II-athletes at a major sport competition such as the Paralympic Games is an important vehicle to promote inclusion. This study examines the trends in participation, representation, and performance of II-athletes from London 2012 to Paris 2024.
Methodology Publicly available data from Paralympic Games results books (2012–2024)2 and qualification regulations were analyzed to track participation rates, entries, event growth, and the contributions of II-athletes to national success. Key metrics included athlete …

Policy Advocacy In Sport And Society, Alana Richardson, Sally-Ann Jennifer Fischer
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Sport and physical activity have intentionally been used as a tool to contribute to social development in areas such as disability inclusion, yet this approach tends to offer merely micro-level initiatives to remedy larger scale social or structural issues. Therefore, it has commonly been suggested that the sport sector needs to engage more in policy advocacy to enact larger scale structural and social change. Policy advocacy is understood as a deliberate effort to influence policy in the interest of an organisation or the people it serves. It can provide the opportunity to challenge power structures that oppress marginalised groups, strategically …

Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Screenings: Using A Universal Design For Learning In The Health Promotion Discipline, Franziska Loetzner, Leah R. Ketcheson, Andrew Pitchford
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Since 1997, Special Olympics International (SOI) has conducted more than 2 million health screenings (healthy athletes screening/s; [HAS]), making it home to the largest publicly available dataset of health for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). While SOI has responded to a call to action (Lloyd et al., 2018) regarding this database, discrepancies of reliability remain. Specifically, regarding the ‘Health Habits Survey’ within the Health Promotion discipline. The ‘Health Habits Survey’ had been designed for SOI Athletes to learn about health behaviors, reduce health concerns, reinforce good health behaviors, and educate on health. Possible difficulties in validity and reliability …

Teaching Physical Education (Pe) To Students With Learning Difficulties From The Perspective Of Non-Specialist Teachers, Laura Kummert, Matthias Zimlich
International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness
Introduction
/="/">Sport and thus physical education (PE) contribute significantly to the holistic development of children and young people with a cognitive impairment (Albaum et al., 2022). To achieve this goal in PE, it is important to have well-educated and skilled PE-teachers. However, in Germany, many PE classes in special education settings are predominantly taught by non-specialist teachers (Greisbach, 2017). Moreover, there remains a significant lack of clarity about how non-specialist teachers design their PE lessons and about which goals they aim to achieve. This study addresses this gap by analysing how non-specialist teachers teach PE for students with learning …

The Clayton Act Cipher: Text As An Antitrust Strategy, Samuel Evan Milner
The Clayton Act Cipher: Text As An Antitrust Strategy, Samuel Evan Milner
Florida Law Review
As federal antitrust enforcement has adopted its most aggressive stance in decades, the fate of billions of dollars’ worth of economic activity rests on a few short statutory phrases enacted generations ago. The government officials who have proposed expanding antitrust enforcement have not justified their efforts through the difficult work of parsing the original meaning of these statutory texts. Nor have the targets of their scrutiny shielded themselves by asserting that statutory meaning. Instead, antitrust regulation and litigation have assumed that the text of these laws does not provide as clear or relevant a standard as do precedent, policy, and …
Expressive Discrimination: Universities' First Amendment Right To Affirmative Action, Alexander Volokh
Expressive Discrimination: Universities' First Amendment Right To Affirmative Action, Alexander Volokh
Florida Law Review
In the wake of Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College, affirmative action proponents should pursue a First Amendment approach. Private universities, which are speaking associations that express themselves through the collective speech of faculty and students, may be able to assert an expressive association right, based on Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, to choose their faculty and students. This theory has been recently strengthened by 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis.
I discuss various complexities and counterarguments: (1) Race is not different from sex or sexual orientation for purposes of the …
Transunion, Vermont Agency, And Statutory Damages Under Article Iii, Randy Beck
Transunion, Vermont Agency, And Statutory Damages Under Article Iii, Randy Beck
Florida Law Review
The Supreme Court concluded in TransUnion LLC v. Ramirez that a plaintiff may not sue to collect statutory damages under a statute such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act simply because the defendant violated a right Congress conferred on the plaintiff. Article III instead requires the plaintiff to show that the statutory violation resulted in a “concrete” injury with “a ‘close relationship’ to a harm ‘traditionally’ recognized as providing a basis for a lawsuit in American courts.” Under the majority’s reading of Article III, “an injury in law is not an injury in fact.”
The TransUnion Court made no effort …
Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove
Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove
Florida Law Review
This Article aims to establish a foundational understanding of the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and privacy, outlining the current problems AI poses to privacy and suggesting potential directions for the law’s evolution in this area. Thus far, few commentators have explored the overall landscape of how AI and privacy interrelate. This Article seeks to map that territory.
Some commentators question whether privacy law is appropriate for addressing AI. In this Article, I contend that although existing privacy law falls far short of resolving the privacy problems with AI, privacy law properly conceptualized and constituted would go a long way …

Tracing Transformations: (Digitized) World War Ii Correspondence Through The Lens Of The Records Continuum Model, Milan M. Van Lange, Carlijn Keijzer
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This paper traces the transformations of a historical archival collection of personal wartime correspondence. Most of the records in this collection were created in the context of the German Occupation of the Netherlands during World War II (1940–1945) and/or the War of Independence in Indonesia (1945-1950). The collection was gathered and curated by the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam from 1945 onwards and was digitised between 2020 and 2023. We navigate the convergence of past and future transformations of the records and illuminate the intricate web of considerations and decisions of historical preservation, archiving, digitisation, …

Examining The Impact Of Stress On Collegiate Flight Students, Shivanee D. Cannon-Patron
Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal
Stress may negatively affect the timely completion of a student pilot's flight training. A student pilot influenced by stress may be subject to what is known as "falling behind the aircraft," a condition that constantly requires minor interventions from their flight instructor. This lack of situational awareness and decreased performance may inadvertently cause the student pilot to repeat the flight lesson, increasing the time spent in the training course.

This literature review investigates the influence of Passiflora incarnata on the Gut-Brain Axis, focusing on the role of flavonoids and the specific biological mechanisms involved in this process. The study aims to identify Passiflora incarnata as a practical, non-harmful, and cost-effective alternative to current modern anxiety medications. This study also emphasizes the need for further clinical trials to integrate Passiflora incarnata further into healthcare settings. Using a narrative review approach, this analysis will examine pre-existing empirical articles, all of which have been found on credible sites, are peer-reviewed, and have been published within the past twenty-five years. The data discussed …
Safe-Haven Ignorance: The Epistemic Refugee, Purya Rabet
Safe-Haven Ignorance: The Epistemic Refugee, Purya Rabet
PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal
This paper engages with the emerging field of ignorance studies. Per feminist critique, the classic “X knows that p” formulation in epistemology fails to account for the subjectivity and situatedness of X. Building on feminist and critical race theory contributions, this paper puts forward a positive theory regarding resistance to belief-revision. The inquiry concerns the relationship between X’s ignorance and X’s self. This paper interrogates defensive reactions to knowledge and their connection to the narrative sense of self. It introduces “safe-haven ignorance”—a psycho-sociopolitical defense mechanism—which occurs when an individual becomes hostile toward knowledge that contradicts their established self-narrative. This contradiction …
