Optimizing Oncology Urgent Care Services For Improved Outcomes And Reducing Hospitalizations, Jaime C. Champion

MSHS Student Capstones

The complexity of treating patients with cancer is becoming an increasingly important priority for healthcare providers due to the risk associated with complications. Cancer patients may frequently visit an emergency department and put themselves at risk of acquiring other illnesses due to having an immunocompromised system. Unfortunately, emergency departments lack the resources and knowledge to care for patients who are undergoing cancer treatments, which can result in fragmentation of care. Consequently, Oncology Urgent Care clinics are becoming more prevalent in many health systems to bridge the gap between outpatient care and emergency room care. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study …

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Soil health is foundational to sustainable agriculture, environmental resilience, and long-term food security. Yet, the adoption of soil health assessments remains limited, often perceived as too technical, costly, or difficult to implement in real-world contexts. To better understand these challenges, the first chapter presents findings from a statewide survey of 41 soil health practitioners in Nebraska, including farmers, extension educators, NRCS staff, and conservation professionals. Respondents highlighted the need for simpler, more accessible, and context-specific tools for soil health assessment that help practitioners make informed decisions aligned with their management goals. Complementing these insights, the second chapter includes an independent, …

Exploring The Capabilities Of Llms For Code-Change-Related Tasks, Lishui Fan, Jiakun Liu, Zhongxin Liu, David Lo, Xin Xia, Shanping Li

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Developers deal with code-change-related tasks daily, e.g., reviewing code. Pre-trained code and code-change-oriented models have been adapted to help developers with such tasks. Recently, large language models (LLMs) have shown their effectiveness in code-related tasks. However, existing LLMs for code focus on general code syntax and semantics rather than the differences between two code versions. Thus, it is an open question how LLMs perform on code-change-related tasks. To answer this question, we conduct an empirical study using 1B parameters LLMs on three code-change-related tasks, i.e., code review generation, commit message generation, and just-in-time comment update, with in-context learning (ICL) and parameter-efficient …

Liquid Power: Myths, Realities, And Policy Responses To Wall Street's Takeover Of Water Markets, Vanessa Casado-Pérez Jul 2025

Liquid Power: Myths, Realities, And Policy Responses To Wall Street's Takeover Of Water Markets, Vanessa Casado-Pérez

Faculty Scholarship

In Don Quixote, there is a moment when all the knightly novels are thrown into the fire for their fantastical depictions of chivalry. Yet one book is spared: Tirant lo Blanc. It is saved because, unlike the others, it portrays knights who die in their beds-offering a more realistic depiction of medieval battles. Similarly, Liquid Asset stands out as the book that should be preserved from the extensive body of scholarship on water markets. Many works in this field are influenced by ideological biases that shape their analyses. In contrast, Buzz Thompson's books provides the nuance and balance often lacking …

Quantum Simulation Of Molecular Dynamics Processes─A Benchmark Study Using A Classical Simulator And Present-Day Quantum Hardware, Tamila Kuanysheva, Brian K. Kendrick, Lukasz Cincio, Dmitri Babikov

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

We explore how the fundamental problems in quantum molecular dynamics can be modeled using classical simulators (emulators) of quantum computers and the actual quantum hardware available to us today. The list of problems we tackle includes propagation of a free wave packet, vibration of a harmonic oscillator, and tunneling through a barrier. Each of these problems starts with the initial wave packet setup. Although Qiskit provides a general method for initializing wave functions, in most cases it generates deep quantum circuits. While these circuits perform well on noiseless simulators, they suffer from excessive noise on quantum hardware. To overcome this …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Multimodal image fusion and object detection are critical tasks in computer vision, particularly in scenarios requiring robust perception under low illumination conditions. Existing approaches that attempt to combine these tasks often rely on cascaded or loosely coupled designs, which can result in suboptimal performance due to gradient conflicts and task imbalance. In this paper, we propose WA-FDNet, a novel Weight Adaptation Fusion Detection Network that unifies multimodal image fusion and object detection into a single end-to-end framework. WA-FDNet adopts a shared encoder–private decoder architecture, enabling efficient feature sharing while preserving task-specific characteristics. The image fusion branch employs a spatial attention-based …
