What Hinders Electric Vehicle Diffusion? Insights From A Neural Network Approach, Monica Bonacina, Mert Demir, Antonio Sileo, Angela Zanoni Aug 2025

What Hinders Electric Vehicle Diffusion? Insights From A Neural Network Approach, Monica Bonacina, Mert Demir, Antonio Sileo, Angela Zanoni

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

The transition to a zero-emission vehicle fleet represents a pivotal element of Europe’s decarbonization strategy, with Italy’s participation being particularly significant given the size of its automotive market. This study investigates the potential for battery electric cars (BEVs) to drive decarbonization of Italy’s passenger vehicle fleet, focusing on the feasibility of targets set in the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate (PNIEC). Leveraging artificial neural networks, we integrate macroeconomic indicators, market-specific variables, and policy instruments to predict fleet dynamics and identify key factors influencing BEV adoption. We forecast that while BEV registrations will continue growing through 2030, the growth …

Student Loan Default: Does Race/Ethnicity Or Socioeconomic Status Play A Larger Role In Student Loan Default In Texas Public 4-Year Institutions?, Traci Armes

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated whether Black students were more likely to default on federal student loans compared to Pell Grant-eligible students who completed their degree programs at public four-year institutions in Texas. The study examined Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic Pelleligible and non-Pell-eligible students to determine whether socioeconomic status or race/ethnicity played a more significant role in determining default rates. The analysis was limited to four-year public institutions in Texas to control for the excessive default rates prevalent in two-year and proprietary institutions. The study was also limited to students who had completed their degree programs. Historically Black Colleges and Universities …

Caregiver Perceptions, Knowledge, And Likelihood To Intervene With Suicidal Youth, Amber L. Willwerth

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study utilized an online survey to target primary caregivers of a child aged 5-18. The survey highlighted factors regarding caregiver involvement in suicide prevention efforts, such as their knowledge, comfort and confidence intervening with a youth experiencing suicidality, and barriers to doing so. It was found that caregivers who had experienced suicide prevention training reported higher levels of comfort and confidence intervening with their own child and another child than those who had not, as well as lower levels of worry. Higher levels of education were also found to predict lower levels of worry, suggesting that further training and …

Subtropical Marine Cloud Brightening Suppresses The El Niño–Southern Oscillation, C. Xing, S. Stevenson, J. Fasullo, C. Harrison, C. Chen, J. Wan, J. Coupe, C. Pfleger Aug 2025

Subtropical Marine Cloud Brightening Suppresses The El Niño–Southern Oscillation, C. Xing, S. Stevenson, J. Fasullo, C. Harrison, C. Chen, J. Wan, J. Coupe, C. Pfleger

Faculty Publications

Stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) and marine cloud brightening (MCB) are two proposed methods of compensating for greenhouse gas-induced warming by reflecting incoming solar radiation. However, their effects on the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), a critical mode of climate variability, are poorly understood. Here we use ensembles of climate model simulations to show that deploying MCB in the subtropical eastern Pacific dramatically reduces ENSO amplitude by approximately 61%, while SAI has a negligible impact. MCB increases cloud albedo, which cools the subtropical eastern Pacific and triggers a loss of moist static energy. This cooling promotes atmospheric subsidence, dries the tropical Pacific, …

Beyond World War I: Post-War Trauma In Agatha Christie’S The Mysterious Affair At Styles, Alayna Puckett Aug 2025

Beyond World War I: Post-War Trauma In Agatha Christie’S The Mysterious Affair At Styles, Alayna Puckett

All Theses

This thesis reexamines Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles as a literary response and representation to World War I, arguing that it deserves recognition as a novel of wartime trauma rather than being confined solely to the realm of popular detective fiction. Influenced by Christie’s firsthand experiences as a wartime nurse, the novel subtly weaves themes of personal wartime experience and trauma into its plot, characters, and setting. Christie’s protagonist, Mr. Hastings, represents the returning soldier attempting to reintegrate into society, while Hercule Poirot—a Belgian refugee—embodies the war’s broader displacement and disruption. Set during World War I in a …

Factors Associated With Postpartum Depression Among Women Attending Postnatal Clinics In A Tertiary Care Hospital In Nairobi, Kenya, Cecilia Muthoni Njoga Aug 2025

Factors Associated With Postpartum Depression Among Women Attending Postnatal Clinics In A Tertiary Care Hospital In Nairobi, Kenya, Cecilia Muthoni Njoga

Master of Medicine in Family Medicine

Background

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major mental health disorder affecting women during the postpartum period with a global prevalence of up to 17.22%. This prevalence has been shown to be higher in low and middle-income countries. In Kenya, about a fifth of women are affected. PPD can lead to poor infant growth and interference with maternal-child bonding. Additionally, women with PPD experience a lower quality of life and their children have an increased risk of developing and psychotic disorders later in life. Understanding the factors associated with PPD is crucial for early diagnosis and intervention. The study aimed to …

Factors Informing Referral Of Adult Patients To Palliative Care Services In A Tertiary Facility In Kenya: Physicians' Perspective, Donnah A. Opiyo

Master of Medicine in Family Medicine

Background The growing burden of chronic diseases underscores the urgent need for palliative care integration into healthcare systems worldwide. Despite its benefits, palliative care remains underutilized due to various barriers, including health system limitations, institutional challenges, infrastructure gaps, and individual provider factors. However, limited research has explored the specific factors influencing physicians' decisions to refer patients to palliative care. This study sought to fill that gap by examining the key determinants shaping referral practices in a tertiary facility in Kenya.

Design and Methods This exploratory qualitative study examined 22 physician specialists from five departments at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. …

Using Tier 1 Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support (Mtss) For Student Behavior To Decrease Discipline Referrals Among Black Ninth-Grade Students, Lauren L. Merck Aug 2025

Using Tier 1 Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support (Mtss) For Student Behavior To Decrease Discipline Referrals Among Black Ninth-Grade Students, Lauren L. Merck

All Dissertations

I begin this dissertation with an introduction to a problem of practice that affects many schools in America- inequity in school discipline. After reviewing literature that explains why this is an important research topic, I share information about the research site, Mountain View High School (MVHS). It was seen that majority of the discipline referrals written over the school year was from ninth-grade students. When looking closer at the ninth-grade students, it also was determined that Black/ African American students were also receiving a disproportionate amount of discipline referrals compared to their White peers. After introducing the problem of practice …
