Mitigating Ai Bias With Prompt Augmentation, Verónica C. Gonzales Aug 2025

Mitigating Ai Bias With Prompt Augmentation, Verónica C. Gonzales

Faculty Scholarship

Large-language-model (“LLM”) outputs are inevitably shaped by assumptions, biases, and attitudes rooted in racism and other systemic inequities embedded in the civil-law tradition. This Equity-in-Justice CLE focuses on helping civil legal service providers recognize and work to eliminate biases in generative AI outputs through equity-centered prompt augmentation and engineering. These small, cost-free interventions re-orient LLMs assistance toward fairness, cultural competency, and client-centered outcomes. Participants leave with an action plan for embedding anti-bias safeguards in everyday research, drafting, and client communication tasks.

Influence Of Mixing Duration And Absorption Characteristics Of Superabsorbent Polymers On The Fresh And Hardened Properties Of High-Performance Concrete, Yu Cun Gu, Kamal H. Khayat

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This study investigates the combined influence of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) with distinct absorption kinetics and extended mixing sequences on the rheological, mechanical, and transport properties of high-performance concrete (HPC). Two SAPs—an ionic acrylamide-co-acrylic acid copolymer (SAP-P) and a non-ionic acrylamide polymer (SAP-B)—were incorporated at an internal curing level of 100%. The impact of extended mixing times (3, 5, and 7 min) following SAP addition was systematically evaluated. Results showed that longer mixing durations led to increased superplasticizer demand and higher plastic viscosity due to continued water absorption by SAPs. However, yield stress remained relatively stable owing to the dispersing effect …

Full Halls, Hull Hearts: Increasing Engagement And Personal Connection In Classical Music Audiences, Katherine E. Christensen

Undergraduate Honors Theses

ABSTRACT

FULL HALLS, FULL HEARTS: INCREASING PERSONAL CONNECTION AND ENGAGEMENT AMONG CLASSICAL MUSIC AUDIENCES

Kate Christensen

Music Department

Bachelor of Music

Over the past several decades, it has been noted that numbers and attendance at classical music concerts is decreasing. Assumptions on why this is occurring point to a lack of connection and engagement between the audience and the music. This thesis seeks to find correlation between interactive techniques implemented in concert set up and audiences feeling connected to and having personal experiences with the music played. Interactive techniques, or engagement activities, are relatively recent additions to concerts, growing in …

Influence Of Exercise Opportunities On Bone Health In Laying Hens, Jaden Costner, Alexis Clark, Ahmed Ali Aug 2025

Influence Of Exercise Opportunities On Bone Health In Laying Hens, Jaden Costner, Alexis Clark, Ahmed Ali

Publications

Laying hens are often housed in environments that restrict movement, which may contribute to bone fragility and decreased welfare. These confined environments, such as conventional cage systems, limit exercise and result in poor skeletal development. This study investigates the impact of exercise opportunities on bone health in laying hens by comparing the tibiotarsi and humeri bone characteristics in enriched and unenriched housing environments. A total of 200 hens were housed in pens (20 birds/pen) from 0 to 40 weeks of age. Five pens, which served as the experimental group, were equipped with multi-tier perches and ledges, providing exercise opportunities. In …

High School Students’ Navigation Processes In An Internet Reading Task: A Descriptive Video Analysis, Hyeju Han, Kole Norberg, Byeong-Young Cho, Scott H. Fraundorf Aug 2025

High School Students’ Navigation Processes In An Internet Reading Task: A Descriptive Video Analysis, Hyeju Han, Kole Norberg, Byeong-Young Cho, Scott H. Fraundorf

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Most research on internet reading has identified skilled readers based on well-established theories of print reading. Nevertheless, an emerging body of work suggests that higher competency in print reading does not fully account for competency in internet reading comprehension. The authors conducted a descriptive video analysis of high school readers’ online navigation behaviors to identify characteristics that could account for differences in their internet reading outcomes. In particular, they focused on students with high grade point averages but diverging internet reading outcomes. The authors found that the participating students with lower outcomes tended to adopt a linear path of navigation …

Perceptive Portraits: A Qualitative Study Exploring The Adolescent Experience Of Connectedness Through Their Words And Photos, Emily Anne Guthrie Strong

Dissertations

The mental health of children and adolescents in the United States has been in a state of crisis for over a decade. Connectedness, defined as the level of closeness individuals have to other individuals, groups, or institutions, has been shown to be a preventative and protective factor in adolescent mental health. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how adolescents experienced connectedness and the meaning they ascribed to those experiences. This study was guided by the following questions:

Q1 How do adolescents describe their experience of connectedness both inside and outside of school?

Q2 What meaning do adolescents …

New Graduate Nurse Retention: The Effect Of Financial Literacy On New Graduate Nurse Intent To Stay, Jenna Elizabeth Hluwood Aug 2025

New Graduate Nurse Retention: The Effect Of Financial Literacy On New Graduate Nurse Intent To Stay, Jenna Elizabeth Hluwood

Dissertations

New graduate nurses (NGNs) undergo a range of life changes during their transition from an academic environment to clinical practice. To decrease NGN role strain, burnout and attrition, nurse educators and managers must do their part to limit the effects of transition shock. Therefore, Judy Duchscher’s (2009) theory of transition shock was the theoretical framework for this study. An essential component of transition shock is the responsibility of financial management. With no literature available to detail the financial literacy of NGNs, original research in this area of study was needed. The purpose of this quantitative exploratory study was to determine …

What Hinders Electric Vehicle Diffusion? Insights From A Neural Network Approach, Monica Bonacina, Mert Demir, Antonio Sileo, Angela Zanoni

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

The transition to a zero-emission vehicle fleet represents a pivotal element of Europe’s decarbonization strategy, with Italy’s participation being particularly significant given the size of its automotive market. This study investigates the potential for battery electric cars (BEVs) to drive decarbonization of Italy’s passenger vehicle fleet, focusing on the feasibility of targets set in the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate (PNIEC). Leveraging artificial neural networks, we integrate macroeconomic indicators, market-specific variables, and policy instruments to predict fleet dynamics and identify key factors influencing BEV adoption. We forecast that while BEV registrations will continue growing through 2030, the growth …
