An Analysis Of Consumer Behavior In The Brazilian E-Commerce Market: An Investigation Of Customer Loyalty, Seasonality, And Regional Preferences, Hai Doan Oct 2025

An Analysis Of Consumer Behavior In The Brazilian E-Commerce Market: An Investigation Of Customer Loyalty, Seasonality, And Regional Preferences, Hai Doan

Student Publications

This paper investigates key drivers of consumer behavior within Brazil's emerging e-commerce market by analyzing the Olist Public Dataset. As technology increasingly allows for data-driven marketing strategies, understanding the nuanced behaviors of diverse consumer bases, especially in an emerging market like Brazil, is critical for firm success. This study tests three hypotheses regarding the relationship between positive customer reviews and e-loyalty, the fluctuation of seasonal sales during holiday periods, and the influence of geographic urbanization on product preferences. Utilizing regression analyses on 100,000 orders from 2016 to 2018, the results showed no significant relationship between positive review scores and repeat …

Featuring a series of photo-based display panels, the exhibit showcases images of dance and movement in public spaces, captured and curated to highlight the often-overlooked role of urban design in supporting health. The exhibit includes reflections on how movement—when thoughtfully integrated into public life—can reduce stress, spark joy, and foster community. Complementing the photography is a set of movement instructions designed …

Introduction To Critical Conversation In Canadian Public Law, Joshua Sealy-Harrington, Karen Drake, Kyle Kirkup, Anne Levesque, Jena Mcgill

Articles & Book Chapters

The introductory chapter to Critical Conversations in Canadian Public Law situates the book "in the midst of some of the most significant social, economic, and political struggles of the past decade", from the COVID-19 pandemic to the Gaza genocide. The introduction describes how the book "seeks to reflect and ignite critical conversations about the centrality of public law and its institutions, broadly defined and deeply contested, to the (re)production of current inequities." It outlines two ways in which the collection is "critical": first, the critical legal methods employed by the contributors (e.g., acknowledging law's political operation, understanding law's relationship with …

Tensions Between Education Policies And Standards And Educators’ Multilingual Practices: Two Case Studies From India And The United States, Natalia M. Rojas, Jessica Chandras Oct 2025

Tensions Between Education Policies And Standards And Educators’ Multilingual Practices: Two Case Studies From India And The United States, Natalia M. Rojas, Jessica Chandras

UNF Faculty Research and Scholarship

Through two case studies from India and the United States, we explore how educational policies and standards focused on multilingualism are interpreted and enacted within early childhood education classrooms. Recent education policies in both contexts are aimed at fostering culturally responsive and linguistically inclusive pedagogy for greater academic success for students whose home language(s) differs from the language of instruction. However, the policy implementation varies significantly based on educators’ language ideologies and cultural beliefs. We examine a critical gap between policy intentions and classroom realities. Our findings suggest that while broad educational policies provide important frameworks, their effectiveness relies upon …

Remote Sensing Of American Revolutionary War Fortification At Butts Hill (Portsmouth, Rhode Island), James G. Keppeler, Marcus Rodriguez, Samuel Koontz, Alexander Wise, Philip Mink, George Crothers, Paul R. Murphy, John K. Robertson, Hugo Reyes-Centeno, Alexandra Uhl

Anthropology Faculty Publications

The Battle of Rhode Island in 1778 was an important event in the revolutionary war leading to the international recognition of U.S. American independence following the 1776 declaration. It culminated in a month-long campaign against British forces occupying Aquidneck Island, serving as the first combined operation of the newly formed Franco-American alliance. The military fortification at Butts Hill in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, served as a strategic point during the conflict and remains well-conserved today. While LiDAR has assisted in the geospatial surface reconstruction of the site’s earthwork fortifications, it is unknown whether other historically documented buildings within the fort remain …

Neotectonic Origins For The Meadow Bank Scarp, Wabash Valley Seismic Zone, Usa, Edward W. Woolery, William J. Stephenson, Kevin Woller, Alena Leeds, Noah Lindberg, Jack K. Odum, Cooper Cearley, Ronald Counts

Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Publications

The Meadow Bank scarp (MBS) in southeastern Illinois is a linear geomorphic expression, ∼10 km long and ∼8 m high above a relatively flat landscape. It parallels an underlying northeast-oriented Late-Precambrian–Early-Cambrian structural fabric, called the Wabash Valley fault zone, and is within an area of modern, historic, and paleo seismicity, called the Wabash Valley seismic zone. In addition, the MBS acts as a boundary of the Wabash River floodplain, as well as Pleistocene glacial outwash channels, which show evidence of frequent outburst flood events. To better understand the MBS’s equivocal origin in this complex geologic environment, we acquired a 917-m-long …

Three Cheers For Print!, Jillian Lacross Oct 2025

Three Cheers For Print!, Jillian Lacross

AADEJ - The Communicator

This guest feature argues that print magazines are a worthwhile and necessary investment for associations, focusing on the three pillars of expectation, engagement, and experience. Print publications establish trust because they imply an inherent vetting process; affluent consumers trust print magazines the most, and print advertisements are significantly more trusted than social media ads. Print provides a respite from digital fatigue, with Worldmetrics finding that readers spend an average of 41 minutes engaging with a printed magazine, far exceeding the 3 to 7 minutes typically spent online. Printed materials enhance retention, recall, and emotional processing, strengthening the association's brand. Ultimately, …

Counterclaim Preclusion: Foreseeability, Finality, And Fairness, Leslie C. Behaunek Oct 2025

Counterclaim Preclusion: Foreseeability, Finality, And Fairness, Leslie C. Behaunek

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

Foreseeability, finality, and fairness are some of the primary interests to balance when analyzing the appropriate scope of preclusion doctrines. Scholars like Richard Freer, Alan Trammell, Lindsey Simon, and others have recently written about defense preclusion, fictional consent to a court’s jurisdiction, and the scope of claim preclusion. Existing scholarship has long recognized the confusion experienced by courts and litigants in cases involving preclusion doctrines. These recent discussions, however, do not address the continued problem that exists with the current stateby-state patchwork of counterclaim preclusion law. After a court enters judgment against a defendant in the plaintiff’s chosen forum (F1), …

Sovereign Solutions: Reclaiming Reproductive Autonomy In Oklahoma Indian Country After Dobbs, Morgan Sandler Oct 2025

Sovereign Solutions: Reclaiming Reproductive Autonomy In Oklahoma Indian Country After Dobbs, Morgan Sandler

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

In the United States, Native American women face disproportionately high rates of sexual violence and adverse maternal health outcomes. In addition to these ongoing challenges, they continue to face significant barriers to reproductive healthcare access. Oklahoma’s near-total abortion ban—without exceptions for rape or incest—exacerbates these negative trends, particularly for Native women and the Two-Spirit community. Following the Supreme Court’s decision in McGirt v. Oklahoma, approximately 42 percent of Oklahoma’s land area is recognized as Indian Country. This Comment explores how Oklahoma’s abortion ban disproportionately impacts Native women due to systemic inequities stemming from the federal government’s long history of …

A Call For Canceling Compassionate Release And Restoring Federal Parole, Honorable Chief Judge C.J. Williams Oct 2025

A Call For Canceling Compassionate Release And Restoring Federal Parole, Honorable Chief Judge C.J. Williams

Washington and Lee Law Review

The current federal sentencing scheme is a patchwork quilt of provisions that grant judges virtually unfettered and unreviewable discretion imposing sentences on the front-end and in granting compassionate release on the back end. It was not designed in the beginning to be this way. The advisory-only sentencing guidelines scheme we have now resulted from the Supreme Court’s finding that mandatory guidelines violated the Constitution. The recent sentencing reform movement—of which compassionate release is a significant part—has sought to find ways of ameliorating what is seen as the draconian result of the war on drugs. The question is whether granting Article …

Equity Partners Or Equity Predators? A Call For Federal Regulations To Safeguard Against Abusive Home Equity Sharing Agreements, Lindsay Lankau Oct 2025

Equity Partners Or Equity Predators? A Call For Federal Regulations To Safeguard Against Abusive Home Equity Sharing Agreements, Lindsay Lankau

Washington and Lee Law Review

Home equity sharing agreements are on the rise throughout the country. In a home equity sharing agreement, homeowners are given a lump sum of cash, upfront, in exchange for a portion of their home’s future value. Agreements are structured however the investment company prefers and are not subject to any state usury caps, mortgage loans, or federal lending laws. The investment companies believe that their product is exempt from all of these requirements, despite the high risk that home equity sharing poses to consumers. In reality, home equity sharing agreements are dangerous, unregulated mortgage loans, which are being utilized by …

Women, Life, And Freedom: The Changing Landscape Of Iranian Women’S Movements Before And After The Islamic Revolution, Emily Snyder Oct 2025

Women, Life, And Freedom: The Changing Landscape Of Iranian Women’S Movements Before And After The Islamic Revolution, Emily Snyder

Araneum: Richmond Journal of American & Global Affairs

Iranian women’s movements, both pre- and post-Islamic Revolution, have continually adapted to the repressive tactics of those in power to advocate for women’s rights in an authoritarian environment. With the introduction of social media, Iranian feminists have been able to counter political suppression and successfully organize against the regime. In this paper, I analyze how Iranian women’s movements have changed before and after the Islamic Revolution, and how social media has allowed modern women’s movements to succeed amidst state surveillance and political violence at the hands of the regime. I determine that social media has been a crucial factor in …

Nepal’S Lost Generation: Emigration And Fertility In Asia, Kalina Kulig Oct 2025

Nepal’S Lost Generation: Emigration And Fertility In Asia, Kalina Kulig

Araneum: Richmond Journal of American & Global Affairs

This paper examines the causes and impacts of Nepal’s “lost generation,” a group of young people

leaving the country in high numbers. I begin by analyzing the causes of emigration, dividing factors into push and pull, and identifying the most important reasons young Nepalis are leaving the country. Next, I explore the impacts of emigration on Nepali society, explaining why the trend of young people working abroad makes Nepal an artificially aged nation. Here, I suggest that rapid population declines can erode the social fabrics and economies of smaller, less developed countries. Finally, I argue that political scientists interested in …

In Defense Of The Care Economy, Emily Daniel Oct 2025

In Defense Of The Care Economy, Emily Daniel

Araneum: Richmond Journal of American & Global Affairs

Women are burdened with caregiving, yet their contributions are frequently undervalued and undercompensated. During the nineteenth century, women worldwide gained the right to vote, access to education, marital freedom, and the right to join the workforce. Yet today, they contribute significantly to unpaid or low-paying care work, tending to domestic responsibilities while participating in the labor force. These roles are motivated by moral or altruistic values rather than financial compensation and provide for needs in childhood, old age, and sickness. With women doing an average of 2.5 times more unpaid domestic work than men, they are at the heart of …

To Praise “Xi Dada”: Analyzing The Personality Cult Of Xi Jinping, Olivia Gondek

Araneum: Richmond Journal of American & Global Affairs

In 2018, just three days before the National People’s Congress abolished presidential term limits, Chinese citizens piled into sold-out theaters to watch Amazing China. This 90-minute documentary about China’s rejuvenation under President Xi Jinping has since become the country’s highest-earning documentary. However, reports failed to acknowledge that state-sponsored companies were the sole producers, reviewers, and marketers of the film. Moreover, Amazing China premiered during a time when accusations of Xi governing through a personality cult—a legitimacy technique based on a sole figure’s unique charisma and God-like qualities—“were intensifying rapidly.” Since taking office in March 2013, Xi Jinping’s presidency has been …

A Holistic Look At Swiss Primary Education In The 1870s-80s, As Reflected In Johanna Spyri’S Heidi, Hazel Handy Oct 2025

A Holistic Look At Swiss Primary Education In The 1870s-80s, As Reflected In Johanna Spyri’S Heidi, Hazel Handy

Mountains and Modernity

Education is a cornerstone theme in Johanna Spyri’s treasured novel Heidi, which tells the story of a young girl living in the Swiss Alps with her grandfather. Heidi has many triumphs throughout her youth, but these are not without hardship with regard to educational attainment. This paper examines how the educational experiences described in Heidi fits into its historical context, having been set in the 1870s-80s in Switzerland and Germany. Legal precedents, labor relations, and a mountainous environment set the stage for educational access and success for both Heidi and her friend Peter. Heidi depicts how the emotional experiences of …

Reflections Of The Era: Representations Of Turbulent Peace And Looming Conflict In Choucas And The Accident, Shenandoah Waugh

Mountains and Modernity

This paper examines the relationship between society and the environment through the lens of two novels: Choucas by Zofia Nałkowska and The Accident by Mihail Sebastian. Choucas was written in the interwar period and focuses on international cooperation in the setting of a sanatorium and resort in the Swiss Alps. The Accident was written in the early years of World War II and takes place in Bucharest and the Carpathian mountains near Brașov, Romania. Both novels utilize the mountainous settings to reflect on the tensions of their respective eras. Choucas relates the mountains and valleys to the turbulent peace of …

Characterization Of Pigeonpea As An Alternate Summer Forage Crop In Virginia, Satya S. S. Narina, Glenn Chappell Iii, Harbans L. Bhardwaj

Virginia Journal of Science

Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.), a major multifunctional food legume crop valued globally, contributes to food security by supplying protein-rich grain for human consumption and provides nutrient-rich biomass for livestock feeding across diverse production systems. However, little is known about its forage potential in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. In 2009 and 2010, four cultivars (GA-1, GA-2, W-1, and W-3) were evaluated in a split-plot design with three intra-row plant populations (2, 4, or 6 plants per 0.3 m row) and three planting dates (May, June, and July). Forage yield, crude protein, minerals, and other nutritional traits were …

Hirzel, Freiheit, Und Die Berge: Wie Sich Johanna Spyris Leben In Heidi Widerspiegelt, Luciana Zaiet Oct 2025

Hirzel, Freiheit, Und Die Berge: Wie Sich Johanna Spyris Leben In Heidi Widerspiegelt, Luciana Zaiet

Mountains and Modernity

Heidi is a Swiss children’s novel that has achieved widespread popularity since its publication in 1880, yet little is known about the author, Johanna Spyri. This text compares available biographical information on Spyri to the world of Heidi. Parallels such as the presence of rural social structures, children’s freedoms, and the view of mountains as a sanctuary from the ills of urbanity and its social restrictions, reveal how elements of Spyri’s life were adapted through the narrative process to create a standalone, idyllic narrative of childhood in the Alps that has grown to be globally beloved.

The practical impact of brand and rebrand strategies is underscored through case studies across varying contexts. Following this, the implementation of strategy is discussed, with an emphasis on the role of design elements and principles in …

Toward The Human Right To Water For Vulnerable Communities: The Effectiveness Of Stakeholder Processes To Control Regional Shallow Groundwater Contamination By Nitrates, Iris Stewart, John Dialesandro, Samantha Lei, Lilah Foster Oct 2025

Toward The Human Right To Water For Vulnerable Communities: The Effectiveness Of Stakeholder Processes To Control Regional Shallow Groundwater Contamination By Nitrates, Iris Stewart, John Dialesandro, Samantha Lei, Lilah Foster

Environmental Studies and Sciences

Nitrate contamination in shallow drinking water wells is an urgent and persistent concern for agricultural regions and disadvantaged communities worldwide. As viable options for the large-scale removal of nitrates from groundwater remain elusive, greater emphasis has been placed on stakeholder-based integrative approaches, yet few have been developed, and fewer evaluated for their effectiveness. The Central Valley in California is one of the most important intensive agricultural regions globally, where such a stakeholder-based process (CV-SALTS) has been initiated, and which is poised to serve as a model for controlling nitrate contamination elsewhere. Based on the Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program …
