Regional Cooperation And Economic Integration: Recent Evidence From Asean, Rama Vandika Daniswara, Ivana Ivana, Deshinta Rahma Dhani, Shafira Aulia Utami, Mohamad D. Revindo

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan

The Asian financial crisis in 1997/98 and the global financial crisis in 2007/8 suggest that more research on economic integration is needed. This study aims to examine the depth and path of integration in the real and financial sectors among ASEAN member states during 1999-2019. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller–Generalised Least Squared (ADF-GLS) test results show stronger evidence of ASEAN real sector integration than its financial sector. Further, time lag analysis shows that the adjustments of interest rates in ASEAN countries are slower than those of price levels in the real economy. Academic and policy implications of the findings are provided, mainly …

Indonesia's Agriculture Tax: An Approach To The Gtap Model, Diah Setyawati Dewanti, Fitra Prasapawidya Purna

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan

Tax is a policy tool to control the market. As Indonesia implied an agriculture tax of about 10% in 2014, it is worthy of capturing how it affects the market. This paper aims to find the effect of the implied tax on the market by seeing the country's sales, demand, imports, exports, and welfare. The method used is GTAP model simulation with the base of GTAP9 and aggregated based on the case applied. The result shows that the tax implied makes the demand, import, and export decrease even for the country that implements it. However, the sale and welfare gained …

Comparative Development Of Indonesia And Nigeria In The First Two Decades Of Democracy: Divergence Or Convergence?, Adamu Waziri Babagana Oct 2025

Comparative Development Of Indonesia And Nigeria In The First Two Decades Of Democracy: Divergence Or Convergence?, Adamu Waziri Babagana

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan

Indonesia and Nigeria are considered suitable candidates for comparative analysis because of their similarities in natural endowments and geographical attributes, demography, economic structure, sociocultural diversity, and political history. Indonesia began to achieve rapid growth in the 1980s while Nigeria did not. During that period, economic policies in the two countries diverged, and this led to sustained economic growth in Indonesia and prolonged economic decline in Nigeria. However, as the countries transitioned to democratic rule in 1999 following the collapse of authoritarian regimes, some aspects of their political and economic trajectories revealed a trend towards convergence. Using the descriptive comparison of …

This study uses quarterly time-series data from 2001 to 2019. The years 2001-2004 are used as the years prior to implementing the State Finance Law. Moreover, 2005 – 2019 is the time to capture …

The Manufactured Mainstream: The Emergence And Commercial Orientation Of Genre Fiction Mode In Chinese Internet Literature, Wei Sun, Huanjiang Qiao Oct 2025

The Manufactured Mainstream: The Emergence And Commercial Orientation Of Genre Fiction Mode In Chinese Internet Literature, Wei Sun, Huanjiang Qiao

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

The genre fiction mode represents the primary form of Chinese Internet literature at its current stage. Although this form embodies the collective labor of mass authors and readers in the Internet age, it is not a result of the autonomous production of Internet literature. Instead, it is deeply rooted in the history of literary commercialization propelled by publishing capitalism and serves as a new tool for capitalist expansion into the literary and cultural domains. From the early publication of physical books through forums and literary websites to the establishment of the “Qidian” model on literary websites, there is a continuous …

Tracing Textual Discontinuity In Wang Guowei's Criticism On A Dream Of Red Mansions, Wei Si Oct 2025

Tracing Textual Discontinuity In Wang Guowei's Criticism On A Dream Of Red Mansions, Wei Si

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

Wang Guowei's Criticism on A Dream of Red Mansions is acclaimed as a groundbreaking work in the history of Chinese literary criticism for its “organized and systematic” approach. However, a notable textual discontinuity exists between the Chapter III and IV, revealing ideological shifts and editorial interventions by Wang himself. He openly acknowledged that Chapter IV abandoned Schopenhauer's theory of the will, which formed the philosophical foundation of Chapter III. A close examination of Wang’ s editorial practices as the chief editor of World of Education revealed a striking anomaly: while articles marked with “to be printed in the next issue” …

Revision And Deletion Of Early Works And The Shift In Poetic Style: Wang Shizhen And The Transformation Of Early Qing Poetry, Liuying Wu

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

Wang Shizhen's poetic corpus underwent significant revision from its initial publication in the late Shunzhi period to his final compilation of the complete collection of his works in his later years. Over the course of half a century, he continually produced new works while re-editing and republishing earlier collections. During the first and eighth years of Kangxi's reign, he made substantial deletions to his earlier poems when compiling new editions of his works. By examining these deletions through early editions and related documents, we can reconstruct Wang Shizhen's early poetic development and trace his evolving aesthetic sensibilities. Although his success …

A Study Of Zhu De's Literary And Artistic Thought In The Early Period Of The Liberated Areas, Linfang Qin

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

In the early period of the liberated areas, Zhu De developed a literary and artistic thought centered on revolutionary utilitarianism. Its main contents are as follows. In terms of nature and function, the literature and art in the liberated areas must become a weapon to suport the Anti-Japanese War. Regarding subject matter, they should correctly deal with the issues of praise and exposure. In terms of artistic form, it is essential to extensively utilize the forms of folk art favored by the masses so as to achieve “popularization and vernacularization.” For the literature and art in the liberated areas to …

Journal of Prison Education Research

Teaching in the prison context is characterized by a high complexity level; it is a multifaced activity influenced by several factors depending on the specific context. We present a preliminary but overall picture of schooling in Italian prisons by considering teachers’ reflections regarding their experiences in teaching mathematics in correctional facilities. To address the gap in the current literature on this issue, we conducted a SWOT analysis on the reflection provided by a group of nine Italian mathematics teachers who teach in different prisons and with different experiences and backgrounds. Their reflection allowed us to identify and describe six theory-driven …

Repairing Epistemic Injustice And Loss In The Era Of Climate Coloniality, Farhana Sultana Oct 2025

Repairing Epistemic Injustice And Loss In The Era Of Climate Coloniality, Farhana Sultana

Geography and the Environment - All Scholarship

Climate change intensifies existing inequities, disproportionately impacting marginalised populations, particularly in the Global South and Indigenous communities. This is maintained through inequitable global climate governance, policies and solutions. The paper argues that climate coloniality, the complex entanglements of colonial legacies with contemporary climate and ecological changes, operates through systemic knowledge-based marginalisation or epistemic injustice, serving as a key mechanism in the uneven production and distribution of climate harms. Beyond the more commonly discussed material dimensions of loss and damage, epistemic injustices arise from silencing critical voices and devaluing knowledge systems. The paper extends the scope of loss and damage debates …

The Origins, History, And Mythology Of The 1925 Scopes Trial, Edward J. Larson Oct 2025

The Origins, History, And Mythology Of The 1925 Scopes Trial, Edward J. Larson

Rondel V. Davidson Endowed Lecture Series

One hundred years is a long time in politics, less so in science, and even less so in religion. 2025 marks 100 years since the best-known intersection of those three forces in American society: the legendary 1925 trial of John Scopes for teaching evolution in a Tennessee public school. The lecture examines the cultural origins, strange history, and enduring mythology surrounding that seminal episode that continues to resonate in American life.

Reliable Detection Of Sf6breakdown Byproducts Using 2d Non-Hexagonal Carbon Allotrope Nanosheets, Pedro Elias Priori Spalenza, Fábio Arthur Leão De Souza, Debora C.M. Rodrigues, Rodrigo G. Amorim, Cesar E.P. Villegas, Wanderlã L. Scopel, Ravindra Pandey

Michigan Tech Publications

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), widely used as an insulating gas in the power industry, decomposes during long-term operation into byproducts such as H2S, SO2, SO2F2, and SOF2. Reliable detection of these compounds is essential, since their type and concentration provide diagnostic signatures of faults in gas-insulated switchgear. We employ density functional theory combined with nonequilibrium Green’s function calculations to evaluate pristine two-dimensional carbon allotropes with nonhexagonal rings, namely Graphene+, T-graphene, and Biphenylene, as potential field-effect nanosensors. To characterize the surfaces’ atomic structures, we simulated scanning tunneling microscopy images for filled states. Each surface exhibits a distinct brightness pattern that allows its …

Open Education As A Tool For Trans And Gender Diverse Inclusion, Stephen Krueger Oct 2025

Open Education As A Tool For Trans And Gender Diverse Inclusion, Stephen Krueger

Library Presentations

There has been little attention given to gender diversity in the open education world so far. But OER and open pedagogy have the potential to be extraordinary tools for supporting trans and gender diverse students: removing cost barriers for a population with extremely high poverty rates, adapting resources to include current and localized information about healthcare and law, and highlighting trans and gender diverse voices. This session will offer an overview of the relationship between open education and gender inclusion. It will also touch on ways in which widespread practices in open education do not serve trans and gender diverse …

Worker Rights In Collective Bargaining, Benjamin W. Arold, Elliott Ash, W. Bentley Macleod, Suresh Naidu Oct 2025

Worker Rights In Collective Bargaining, Benjamin W. Arold, Elliott Ash, W. Bentley Macleod, Suresh Naidu

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

Collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) specify the contractual rights of unionized workers, but their full legal content has not yet been analyzed by economists. This paper develops novel natural language methods to analyze the empirical determinants and economic value of these rights using a new collection of 30,000 CBAs from Canada in the period 1986-2015. We parse legally binding rights (e.g., “workers shall receive. . . ”) and obligations (e.g., “the employer shall provide. . . ”) from contract text, and validate our measures through evaluation of clause pairs and comparison to firm surveys on HR practices. Using timevarying province-level variation …

Nanotechnology Research Centre

Nanostructured Ba0.9Ca0.1Ti0.9Zr0.1O3 (BCTZO) ceramics with varying contents of reduced graphene oxide (rGO, 0 ~ 1 wt.%) were synthesized via the solid-state method to explore their structural, dielectric, and electrochemical properties. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of a single-phase tetragonal perovskite structure for all compositions. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) revealed uniformly distributed grains (100 ~ 150 nm), with rGO addition influencing grain growth initially promoting coarsening at low loadings and suppressing it at higher concentrations due to grain boundary pinning. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) verified the elemental composition, and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy confirmed the metal–oxygen bonding of the …

China’S Revised Arbitration Law, Jillian Farrell Oct 2025

China’S Revised Arbitration Law, Jillian Farrell

Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR) Blog

Historically, China has been an undesirable venue for arbitration amongst foreign parties. Chinese arbitration institutions had been quasi-governmental, creating concerns about institutional bias and the perception that Chinese arbitrators exercised “ambiguous flexibility” in their decision-making. Chinese courts also had a reputation for not enforcing arbitration awards. Although there has not been empirical data to suggest that Chinese Arbitration proceedings are always biased, the provisions of China’s Arbitration Law itself alongside individual’s experiences painted Chinese Arbitration as unfair and unenforceable.

The print edition of the issue has also been released. This post was originally published on the Cardozo Journal of Conflict …
