First Responder Resiliency With Line Of Duty Critical Incident Exposure, Jennifer Miller
First Responder Resiliency With Line Of Duty Critical Incident Exposure, Jennifer Miller
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
First responders' mental health resiliency and distress tolerance following crises and adverse, sporadic, and consistent exposure to critical incidents, such as line-of-duty death, mass casualty incidents, and calls involving children, continues to be a public health challenge in the United States. In this phenomenological study, the role of critical incidents in the overall mental and physical health resiliency of first responders was explored. Resilience theory served as the theoretical perspective for this study. The central research question for this study was to investigate the lived experiences of first responders who have been exposed to critical incidents in the line of …

OBJECTIVE: Traumatic vertebral artery injuries (tVAIs) are uncommon but potentially devastating if missed. While computed tomography angiography (CTA) is routinely used for diagnosis, data on the number needed to image (NNI) remain limited. We hence analyzed tVAI epidemiology and imaging practices at a major Scandinavian level 1 trauma center.
METHODS: A retrospective study (2013-2020) was performed based on a single-center trauma registry. Patients were grouped based on CTA imaging protocol used; selective screening (2013-2017) and universal screening (2018-2020). Imaging protocols, treatment strategies, and outcomes were analyzed.
RESULTS: Among 2,843 patients admitted with level 1 trauma and receiving CTA imaging, 62 …

Anemia And Its Public Health Implications In Population Health, Sahar Abdul Wahab Alshaban, Raghda Shams Akram, Alaa Al-Noori, Noor Thair Tahir
Al-Esraa University College Journal for Medical Sciences
One to three percent of people worldwide suffer from anemia, a condition that impairs brain development, increases illness and mortality, and lowers labor productivity. Developing successful interventions to address specific causes of anemia and evaluating anemia management programs require an understanding of the numerous and diverse causes of anemia. The description and categorization of anemia, the physiological processes by which anemia arises, the importance of inherited hemoglobin abnormalities in specific populations, and a number of circumstances that contribute to the development of anemia are all covered. The conclusion of this review is as follows. Anemia is a significant global health …

Oral Histories
Now a Golden Soror with fifty years of service, Monsanto reflects on her legacy with pride. Her daughter, initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha through the Delta Lambda Chapter at Delaware State University in 1994 and now a Silver Star member—continues the family’s commitment to the sorority, and Monsanto hopes her granddaughter will one day follow the same path. Monsanto ends her interview with optimism, expressing complete confidence in the next generation of talented and determined young women who will carry the sorority forward. Her life stands as a testament to how service, education, and sisterhood can shape not only a …

Effective Leadership Strategies For Aligning Vision And Mission To Drive Sustainability, Nyree Price
Effective Leadership Strategies For Aligning Vision And Mission To Drive Sustainability, Nyree Price
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Organizational leaders often struggle when ambitious innovation outpaces the systems, structures, and leadership practices needed to support consistent operational performance. When leaders fail to implement effective resolution strategies to align the organizational vision and mission with operational effectiveness, it impacts long-term operational effectiveness, productivity, and long-term sustainability. This qualitative single case study was an exploration of the strategies used by some business leaders in a mid-sized, for-profit telecommunications firm in the Midwest United States. The study applied the Baldrige Excellence Framework as the conceptual lens. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with executive leaders and through an analysis of internal …

The 2025 Pakistan Floods: Investigating The Human, Agricultural, And Economic Collapse, Abdullah Khan
MSJ Capstone Projects
This project examines the 2025 Pakistan floods as a multidimensional climate disaster that triggered severe human, agricultural, and economic consequences. Moving beyond event-based reporting, the study examines how climate change, weak governance, poor infrastructure planning, and delayed institutional responses intensified the scale of destruction. Using investigative journalism methods, the project combines field reporting from flood-affected areas, in-depth interviews with displaced communities, local activists, and experts, and analysis of official data and policy documents. The findings reveal widespread displacement, loss of livelihoods, food insecurity, and long-term social vulnerability, particularly among marginalized rural populations. Agricultural collapse emerged as a central concern, threatening …

Fine-Tuning Llama2 For Summarizing Discharge Notes: Evaluating The Role Of Highlighted Information, Mahshad Koohi Habibi Dehkordi, Yehoshua Perl, Fadi P. Deek, Hao Liu
School of Computing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
This study investigates whether incorporating highlighted information in discharge notes improves the quality of the summaries generated by Large Language Models (LLMs). Specifically, it evaluates the effect of using highlighted versus unhighlighted inputs for fine-tuning LLaMA2-13B model for summarization tasks. We fine-tuned LlaMA2-13B in two variants using MIMIC-IV-Ext-BHC dataset: one variant fine-tuned with the highlighted discharge notes (H-LLaMA), and the other on the same set of notes without highlighting (U-LLaMA). Highlighting was performed automatically using a Cardiology Interface Terminology (CIT) presented in our previous work. H-LLaMA and U-LLaMA were evaluated on a randomly selected test set of 100 discharge notes …

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disorder driven by abnormal immune activation that promotes excessive proliferation and accelerated turnover of epidermal keratinocytes. IL-17 and TNF pathways are well known in psoriasis, but the other mechanisms that keep the disease active and link it to systemic comorbidities are not yet fully understood. A combined transcriptomic and systems biology framework was applied to map regulatory circuits in psoriatic lesions and to identify phytochemical candidates capable of multi-target modulation for topical intervention. Differential gene expressions between lesional and healthy skin was analyzed, followed by pathway enrichment, upstream regulator inference, protein-protein interaction network, and chemical-gene …

Background:
Heavy metals, like lead, arsenic, and cadmium, are linked to increased inflammation even in early life; however, anti-inflammatory diets may offset these effects.
Methods:
We evaluated associations between heavy metals and inflammatory biomarkers, and potential effect modification by diet in 399 adolescents aged 10 to 18 at baseline who attended two study visits 2 years apart (773 observations). At baseline, blood lead, urinary arsenic, and cadmium concentrations were measured, and the Children’s Dietary Inflammatory Index (C-DII) was calculated. Fasting serum interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha were measured for both visits. Generalized …
