Kbootrepair: Automated Llm Guided Repair Of Linux Kernel Boot Failures, Ryan P. Garfinkel Jan 2026

Kbootrepair: Automated Llm Guided Repair Of Linux Kernel Boot Failures, Ryan P. Garfinkel

Honors Undergraduate Theses

The Linux kernel is an actively developed, highly configurable system software that supports a diverse range of platforms. Kernel fuzzers, like Google’s syzkaller, have been embraced to find bugs, but they require bootable configurations that work in their environment. However, these tools rely on a set of configurations that exclude most code changes. Each option controls which code is included when the kernel compiles. Making modifications requires extensive knowledge, as there are over 15,000 interrelated configuration options. While prior work has used formal methods to guarantee configuration validity, this doesn’t guarantee bootability. In this paper, we introduce KBootRepair, an iterative …

Chin Up: Contextual Factors That Determine Positive Or Negative Reception Of Encouragement, Paige Tobias Jan 2026

Chin Up: Contextual Factors That Determine Positive Or Negative Reception Of Encouragement, Paige Tobias

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

This study investigated how relational closeness, trust, coping, spirituality, and religiosity impact a person’s subjective experience of encouragement. It also explored whether worldview alignment or the type of relationship determines whether a person experiences words of encouragement as positive or negative. Participants (n = 153) filled out questionnaires regarding these constructs as well as recalled times when they were encouraged and experienced that encouragement either positively or negatively. Results showed that positive and negative coping styles and relationship closeness were predictors of a positive experience with encouragement. Coping alignment with the recipient of the encouragement was a predictor for both …

Expanding Clinical Understanding Of Suicidality In Queer Adolescents, Garrett Cash Jan 2026

Expanding Clinical Understanding Of Suicidality In Queer Adolescents, Garrett Cash

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Suicidality is seen at an exceptionally high rate for both sexual minority and gender minority youth (Zaza et al., 2016; Thoma et al., 2019). The American Psychological Association (APA) has set out guidelines for mental health providers working with queer youth (APA 2015 and APA 2021) but does not require clinicians to adhere to them, labeling them as “aspirational.” To bridge the gap in clinician education on how to best support this group, an organizing framework based on etiological and preventative research is necessary. This would allow providers to more accurately and efficiently assess and respond to risk. The Salience-Occurrence …

Religiosity And Political Affiliation As Moderators For Climate Change Belief, Jenna L. Hiljus Jan 2026

Religiosity And Political Affiliation As Moderators For Climate Change Belief, Jenna L. Hiljus

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Climate change remains a polarized issue in the United States despite broad scientific consensus. The present study examined how specific variables within political ideology (social and economic conservatism) and religiosity (belief, praxis, and morality) relate to climate change belief among undergraduate students at a private Christian university. Participants (N = 130) completed measures of climate change perceptions, multidimensional religiosity, and social and economic conservatism. Correlational analyses showed medium-sized, negative relationships between climate change belief and both social and economic conservatism, with no significant difference between the two domains. This finding suggests that political conservatism may operate as a unified construct …

Utility Of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–Third Edition (Mmpi-3) Eating Concerns Scale In A Bariatric Sample, Darryl Ray Jan 2026

Utility Of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–Third Edition (Mmpi-3) Eating Concerns Scale In A Bariatric Sample, Darryl Ray

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The utility of the Eating Concerns (EAT) scale on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–3 (MMPI-3) was examined in a preoperative bariatric sample through comparisons with established measures and an assessment of internal consistency. Participants (N = 161) enrolled in a bariatric surgery program completed a comprehensive preoperative psychological evaluation that included the MMPI-3, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ), and the Weight Efficacy Lifestyle Questionnaire–Short Form (WEL-SF). The EAT scale differentiated the disordered eating groups and showed moderate associations with the TFEQ-C, TFEQ-D, and WEL-SF. Within this sample, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the EAT scale was lower than the alpha …

Adverse Therapy Experiences In Patients At An Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital As A Predictor Of Inpatient Risk And Distress, Jaycee Hallford Jan 2026

Adverse Therapy Experiences In Patients At An Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital As A Predictor Of Inpatient Risk And Distress, Jaycee Hallford

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Psychotherapy is widely assumed to be beneficial, yet research consistently shows that a meaningful proportion of patients experience deterioration or harm. Adverse therapy experiences (ATEs) may intensify distress, undermine trust in clinicians, and elevate risk for self-harm, particularly among psychiatric inpatients who are already in crisis; ATEs may thus contribute to deterioration while undergoing psychotherapy. This study examined whether ATEs predicted psychological distress, suicidal ideation, and perceived risk of harm to self or others among adult psychiatric inpatients. Data were obtained from 56 voluntary and involuntary inpatients using a newly developed measure of ATEs, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social …

Relationships Between Intimate Partner Attachment Style, Pet Attachment Style, And Type Of Pet, Hamilton Lovett Jan 2026

Relationships Between Intimate Partner Attachment Style, Pet Attachment Style, And Type Of Pet, Hamilton Lovett

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Prior research has shown attachment figures can take many forms beyond human-to-human connection. As pets continue to serve an increasingly important familial role, they have also become strong attachment figures for children and adults alike. The present study explored pet attachment relationships in more depth, examining a sample of pet owners with traditional pets, dogs and cats, and those with an exotic pet, snakes. Participants completed a survey measuring their intimate partner attachment style and their attachment style to their pet. Findings indicated those with anxious intimate partner attachment styles also hold anxious attachment to their pets. However, participants with …

The Perfect Ten: How Perceived Sport Performance Outcomes And Other Factors Impact An Athlete’S Body Image, Mia Asuncion Jan 2026

The Perfect Ten: How Perceived Sport Performance Outcomes And Other Factors Impact An Athlete’S Body Image, Mia Asuncion

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The present study investigated factors that influence body image in collegiate athletes before and after competition. Existing research has focused on factors such as sex differences and aesthetic versus non-aesthetic sports, but there is limited research on factors such as an athlete’s view of their performance, the weight pressures an athlete faces from external supports, and the interplay of these variables. Participants (n = 53) filled out a questionnaire 24 hours prior to, and following, a competition. They rated body image disturbance, subjective performance satisfaction, and weight pressures from external systems. Results showed a relationship between body image disturbance and …

Shame, Shame, I Don’T Know Your Name: The Association Of Shame In Asian Culture With Self-Compassion And Self-Criticism In Asian Americans, Lauren M. Nguyen Jan 2026

Shame, Shame, I Don’T Know Your Name: The Association Of Shame In Asian Culture With Self-Compassion And Self-Criticism In Asian Americans, Lauren M. Nguyen

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

With depression and suicidality on the rise among Asian Americans and gaps in research for members of Asian culture, it is imperative to examine the factors that may influence mental health outcomes, to help inform clinical considerations. Shame plays a significant role in Asian culture and is an essential component in understanding the mental health of Asian Americans. Self-criticism and self-compassion have also been shown to influence mental health outcomes in Asian populations. This study examined how shame in Asian culture is linked to self-criticism and self-compassion in Asian Americans, and how acculturation can impact these relationships. A total of …

Disparities In Emergency Medical Services: Examining Care Gaps For The High-Frequency User Population, Sarah Krysl Cleveringa Jan 2026

Disparities In Emergency Medical Services: Examining Care Gaps For The High-Frequency User Population, Sarah Krysl Cleveringa

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Although many studies have illustrated healthcare disparities related to patient demographic factors in emergency medical response, few studies have examined how differences in care may be related to a patient’s identity as a high-frequency utilizer of emergency medical services (EMS). The Superuser population (higher than average utilizers of EMS) has been examined for characteristics and costs to society, but it is unknown if they receive a different type or quality of care compared to the low-frequency utilizer population. The goal of this study is to examine the EMS care that Superusers receive and possible factors that may contribute to the …

Hester’S Dubious Roots And Legacy: Open Fields Doctrine Under Scrutiny, Laura K. Donohue Jan 2026

Hester’S Dubious Roots And Legacy: Open Fields Doctrine Under Scrutiny, Laura K. Donohue

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

For over a century, open fields doctrine has shaped Fourth Amendment law, denying people the right to be secure on their own property. Its application has steadily expanded, with the result that, by some estimates, the Government can now engage in warrantless surveillance of some ninety-six percent of private land and buildings regardless of fences, postings, the distance from public roads or byways, or the use to which the property is put. An originalist approach throws the doctrine into disarray: at the time of the Founding, common law protected the curtilage, which extended to the fields, barns, storehouses, and other …

Bidenomics: An Analysis, Chad Marzen Jan 2026

Bidenomics: An Analysis, Chad Marzen

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

“What’s Bidenomics? It’s about investing in—and I feel like I’m going to—I’m going to try not to repeat some of what my colleagues have already said, but it’s about investing in America—investing in America and investing in Americans—American People” – Former President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.1 “It’s about growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up instead of the top down. Because when the middle class does well, the poor have a ladder up and the wealthy still do very well.” – Former President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.2 “The West Wing may believe Bidenomics is working …

Trained, Trusted, And Vetted, But Still Unarmed: The Army Is Bucking Congress And The Court By Continuing To Prohibit Concealed Carry, Major Jonathon L. Krisko Jan 2026

Trained, Trusted, And Vetted, But Still Unarmed: The Army Is Bucking Congress And The Court By Continuing To Prohibit Concealed Carry, Major Jonathon L. Krisko

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not “a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.” We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need. That is not how the First Amendment works when it comes to unpopular speech or the free exercise of religion. It is not how the Sixth Amendment works when it comes to a defendant’s right to confront the witnesses against him. And it is not how the Second Amendment …

Autonomous Ai And Ownership Rules, Frank Fagan Jan 2026

Autonomous Ai And Ownership Rules, Frank Fagan

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

As artificial intelligence (AI) systems become increasingly autonomous, traditional notions of ownership will adapt. Historically, property rights have been grounded in traceability, enabling legal and economic systems to allocate ownership efficiently through doctrines such as accession (ownership by connection), and first possession (ownership by labor). Property law also recognizes that abandoned property, when considered untraceable to its original owner, can be efficiently reassigned through accession, ensuring that resources do not remain ownerless. However, autonomous AI systems capable of self-replication, self-governance, and independent economic activity complicate these established principles, raising new questions about how ownership should be determined when AI is …

Lawyering On The Eve Of War: The Role Of Law And Lawyers In Ethiopia’S Civil War, 2018–2024, Mekonnen F. Ayano

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

What role do lawyers play when a nation stands at the brink of war? This Article examines how Ethiopia’s legal profession navigated escalating political instability in the years leading up to the country’s devastating civil war (2018–2022). It traces how private attorneys, judges, prosecutors, government legal advisors, human rights advocates, consultants, and law academics engaged with shifting power dynamics, ethical dilemmas, and political tensions, revealing their complex positioning as both actors and intermediaries in the unfolding crisis. Some resisted factional political pressures and sought to uphold legal principles, while others adapted to the fragile conditions and aligned with prevailing currents, …

Suppressing The Surge: Starbucks And The Limits Of Labor Rights, Ivan Garcia Jan 2026

Suppressing The Surge: Starbucks And The Limits Of Labor Rights, Ivan Garcia

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

In the wake of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Starbucks workers launched an unprecedented movement to organize workers at each store. Starbucks management responded to this movement with an unlawful union busting campaign. The National Labor Relations Board found that the Starbucks campaign violated workers’ rights to engage in union activity under the National Labor Relations Act. Starbucks’ efforts allowed them to stave off any collective bargaining agreement between the stores and the union. The company adopted aggressive tactics in the run-up to worksite elections which the Board found amounted to unlawful interference. The endeavor to organize workers at Starbucks stores …

Shock The System: Pouring Water On The Cpuc’S Income-Graduated Flat Rates In Favor Of More Effective Rate Structures, Benjamin Hill Jan 2026

Shock The System: Pouring Water On The Cpuc’S Income-Graduated Flat Rates In Favor Of More Effective Rate Structures, Benjamin Hill

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

The volume of rate cases in the United States continues to increase, resulting in constant price hikes for utility customers. The battle between corporate profit and consumer financial satisfaction will likely continue. Considering these diametrically opposed interests, the California Public Utility Commission, at the behest of the California legislature, decreased the rate consumers pay for usage and added fixed fees based on income to utility bills. The broader goals of the Commission’s model are to maintain utility profitability, alleviate the financial burden consumers face, promote energy conservation, and develop energy efficient technology to combat greenhouse gas emissions. This Comment will …

Complying With Title Ix In The Nil Era, Benjamin Moyer Jan 2026

Complying With Title Ix In The Nil Era, Benjamin Moyer

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

On July 1, 2021, college athletics forever changed when the NCAA allowed college athletes to receive financial compensation for the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in endorsements and other marketing engagements. While NIL has empowered college athletes and enabled them to profit from their athletic abilities, it has also thrown the college sports industry into chaos. The House v. NCAA settlement agreement, which was officially approved on June 6, 2025, was expected to establish better guardrails for universities. However, the agreement’s approval may only increase universities’ exposure under Title IX. Part of the House settlement agreement enables …

It’S Gone To The Dogs: The Need For Regulation In Professional Service Dog Training, Crystal J. Elsner Jan 2026

It’S Gone To The Dogs: The Need For Regulation In Professional Service Dog Training, Crystal J. Elsner

Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)

Currently, no state requires professional service dog trainers to pass any test or obtain any occupational licensure to prove their competency. While the Americans with Disabilities Act and its implementing regulations do not require that dogs complete a professional training program to be considered service dogs, many individuals with disabilities choose to use such programs. The unregulated nature of the industry allows inexperienced individuals to market themselves as professionals, which can harm not only the dogs receiving training but also the humans that will eventually take them home. Further, the lack of industry oversight leaves room for bad actors to …
