Adaptation Processes In Cross - Cultural Communication Within Chinese - Indonesian Workplace Settings: An Analysis Of The Tiktok Series "Day 1 Kerja Sama Orang China. ", Shi Jie, Amelia Burhan

International Review of Humanities Studies

In the background ofChina's deepening economic engagement with Indonesia under the Belt and Road Initiative, increasing numbers of Chinese workers have entered Indonesian industrial zones, creating a workplace environment characterized by intensive cross-cultural interaction. While previous studies on cross-cultural adaptation have primarily emphasized macro-level cultural barriers and language difficulties, this research shifts attention to the micro-level communicative practices through which cultural adaptation is negotiated in everyday collaboration. Drawing on Howard Giles' Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT), this study conducts a qualitative analysis of TikTok videos depicting workplace interactions between Chinese and Indonesian workers particularly those labeled "Day 1 kerja sama orang …

Right-Wing French Media Coverage Of The Rassemblement National’S 2027 Presidential Candidates, Amelinda Sundari, Myrna Laksman-Huntley

International Review of Humanities Studies

The 2027 French presidential election has become a contest over political legitimacy, and the media play a key role in shaping candidates’ images. Within the right-wing camp, Rassemblement National (RN) presents two potential figures, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella. Le Pen faces legal threats that could prevent her candidacy, while Bardella is projected as a successor to represent RN in the contest. Drawing on framing theory Pan & Kosicki (1993) and Critical Discourse Analysis Fairclough (1995), this qualitative study investigates right-wing French media preferences between these two candidates. The analysis examines three articles each from Le Figaro and Le …

Sahel Region In French Postcolonial Discourse: Macron's Production Of Space And Security Rhetoric, Azzahrah F. A Putri, Abellia Anggi Wardani Dr.

International Review of Humanities Studies

Between the Sahara Desert and the Sudanese Savannah, the Sahel region has become a contested geopolitical space. This study analyses how France is reconstructing its hegemony following its military withdrawal through the rhetoric of Emmanuel Macron (2021 and 2025). Using Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 1995) and the theory of spatial production (Lefebvre, 1974), this study examines how the discourses of “partnership” and “security” are employed to maintain French influence. Qualitative methods were applied to Macron's speeches, French media, and statements by former presidents of Sahel countries. The results show that France is redefining the Sahel as a ‘crisis zone’ requiring …

The Mediating Role Of Trust: How Cultural Factors Shape Consumer Acceptance Of Chinese Electric Vehicles In Jakarta, Indonesia, Suci Kuswardani, Ike Iswary Lawanda

International Review of Humanities Studies

This study examines the mediating role of consumer trust in the relationship between cultural factors and the purchase intention of Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Jakarta, Indonesia. While global EV adoption is often analyzed through techno-economic lenses, this research addresses a critical gap by investigating the under-explored socio-cultural dimensions that shape consumer behavior in emerging markets. Framed by an integrated theoretical approach combining Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Reception Theory, the study explores how local cultural values such as collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, and social status filter the acceptance of Chinese EV technology. A qualitative case study …

Induced Innovation In Critical Mineral Saving Technologies, Andrea Bastianin, Paolo Castelnovo, Federico Fabio Frattini, Francesco Vona Jan 2026

Induced Innovation In Critical Mineral Saving Technologies, Andrea Bastianin, Paolo Castelnovo, Federico Fabio Frattini, Francesco Vona

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

This paper develops a novel text-based approach to identify CRM-saving innovation using patent data and studies how mineral price signals shape the direction of technological change. Using patent data from 1978–2020, we distinguish technologies that rely on CRMs from those that explicitly aim to reduce their use through efficiency improvements, substitution, or recycling. We provide evidence consistent with the induced-innovation hypothesis: higher mineral prices reallocate inventive effort toward CRM-saving technologies, while having little effect on CRM-reliant innovation. The response strengthens over time and is especially pronounced for battery minerals and rare earth elements. These findings are robust to alternative specifications …

Space Modification In One-Bedroom-Plus Units For Generation Y In Bangkok, Thanakorn Taraka Jan 2026

Space Modification In One-Bedroom-Plus Units For Generation Y In Bangkok, Thanakorn Taraka

Interiority

This study examines space modification in one-bedroom-plus condominium units in Bangkok, focusing on the relationship between Generation Y’s characteristics and how they adapt interior layouts to suit their lifestyles. While previous research has addressed flexible housing in general, few studies have focused specifically on how Generation Y modifies space within condominium units to accommodate their needs in the Bangkok context. The study analysed 7,596 one-bedroom-plus units developed in Bangkok and modified by 44 architectural stakeholders to reflect Generation Y's preferences. Using function, partition, and floor indicators, and applying k-means cluster analysis, six spatial modification approaches were identified: open-space layouts, functional …

Architecturally Be Kind: Exploring The Effect Of Prison Interiors On Autistic Inmates, Julie E. N. Irish, Gregory Galford

Interiority

How the interior environment affects autistic people has been studied in settings such as education and healthcare. However, significant work has not been done in evaluating the effect of prison interiors on autistic inmates who may be hypersensitive, especially to light and sound. The purpose of this study was to determine how autistic inmates cope in a noisy, crowded environment that is not designed for them and that they cannot control. This qualitative research used grounded theory to interview five autistic inmates at a medium-security state prison for men in the US to find out their lived experience in prison. …

Algorithmic Management At Work: Collective Rights And Eu Regulatory Responses, Mariapaola Aimo, Laura Tebano Jan 2026

Algorithmic Management At Work: Collective Rights And Eu Regulatory Responses, Mariapaola Aimo, Laura Tebano

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the evolving European regulatory framework concerning Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Management in the workplace, focusing on the protection of workers’ collective rights. It first examines the Artificial Intelligence Act, arguing that its product-oriented and risk-based approach inadequately addresses workplace power imbalances. Although employment-related AI is classified as “high risk,” the Artificial Intelligence Act merely grants workers’ representatives a right to information, without ensuring consultation, and reveals a democratic deficit in the implementation phase, where technical standards are shaped by private interests. We then argue that traditional information-and-consultation mechanisms offer limited protection and are …

A Communication-Process-Centered (Cpc) Approach To Intercultural Communication Education, Yanrong (Yvonne) Chang, Dora E. Saavedra Jan 2026

A Communication-Process-Centered (Cpc) Approach To Intercultural Communication Education, Yanrong (Yvonne) Chang, Dora E. Saavedra

Communication Faculty Publications

Purpose: In response to a call to seek renewed purpose and new conceptualizations for intercultural communication education (ICE) (Dervin and Tournebise, 2013), the purpose of this conceptual paper is to critiquee limited traditional models of ICE and to propose, explain and argue for a communication-process-centered (CPC) approach to the field. The proposed CPC framework emphasizes dynamic conceptualizations of culture, identity, and interaction as fluid processes rather than static traits.

Design/methodology/approach: The paper describes anticipated learning outcomes of the CPC approach and advocates for the use of ethnographic methods in classroom teaching. It provides practical ways for applying these methods …

A Simple And Affordable Protocol To Assess Censer Seed Dispersal: First Confirmation Of The Mechanism In The Genus Solanum, Abigail J. Motter, Christopher T. Martine, Melody P. Sain

Faculty Journal Articles

The censer seed dispersal mechanism, whereby mature fruits are retained on plants and seeds dispersed by mechanical shaking, is among the most specialized wind-aided seed dispersal strategies employed by the flowering plants. An efficient, affordable, and easily repeatable protocol for determining whether a species uses this unusual mechanism of seed dispersal is lacking. Our focal species, Solanum tudununggae, is one of just two Solanum species (in a fleshy-fruited genus of ca. 1200 species) hypothesized to use this dispersal mechanism as a means to move seeds farther from parent plants than would gravity alone.

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The present study examined the personality traits of individuals who identify themselves as “Disney adults” and explored patterns of Disney-related engagement through a newly developed Disney Engagement Scale (DES). Personality traits have a history of being used in many capacities to identify themes within a population. As the Disney adult population grows larger, the opportunity for research increases. In popular media, Disney adults have frequently been shamed for their engagement with the company. The premise of the Disney experience is based on nostalgia, play and cheer. Further, holistic health benefits of nostalgia, playfulness and cheerfulness in adults can be found …

Asymmetric Positioning Errors In Gnss Time-Series: A Study From Different World Regions, Francesca Silverii, Emilie Klein, Roberto Devoti, Walter Szeliga, Sylvain Michel, Adriano Gualandi, Elisa Trastatti Jan 2026

Asymmetric Positioning Errors In Gnss Time-Series: A Study From Different World Regions, Francesca Silverii, Emilie Klein, Roberto Devoti, Walter Szeliga, Sylvain Michel, Adriano Gualandi, Elisa Trastatti

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) plays a fundamental role in monitoring time-dependent ground displacement. However, GNSS daily position time-series can often contain significant outliers, reaching up to several centimetres. These are likely of non-tectonic origin, and, if not properly accounted for, they can significantly impact the accuracy and dependability of the estimation of key parameters for geophysical analyses, such as long-term velocities and transient deformations. Characterizing these outliers can provide information about their possible sources and help us implement mitigation strategies. Asymmetric outliers, that is, those characterized by a primary direction, therefore occurring on one side of the mean time-series, …

Understanding Threats To Public Officials: A Review Of Federal Cases Between 2013 And 2025, Peter Simi, Seamus Hughes, Camden Carmichael, Mackenzie Harms Jan 2026

Understanding Threats To Public Officials: A Review Of Federal Cases Between 2013 And 2025, Peter Simi, Seamus Hughes, Camden Carmichael, Mackenzie Harms

Reports, Projects, and Research

Since 2013, there have been a total of 824 federal criminal cases involving threats against public officials nationwide. The trend has increased significantly in recent years. In 2025, there have been 133 federally charged threat cases, setting a new annual record and surpassing the previous high of 104 in 2024. This continuing upward trajectory reflects the combination of the increasing volume in threat activity across the nation and greater responsiveness of federal authorities attempting to address this particular type of criminal violation.

This escalation is not isolated to any single region. In 2025 alone, individuals have been federally charged with …

Department of Surgery Faculty Papers

Global efforts to control heartworm disease are challenged by increasing drug resistance and inadequate early detection methods, which hinder the effective diagnosis and treatment of Dirofilaria immitis infection. This study presents an in vivo model for investigating D. immitis development and host-parasite interactions. The growth and migration of the D. immitis JYD-34 isolate were analyzed in immunodeficient NSG mice over 177 days, revealing parasite migration to the heart and lungs, which mirrors infection dynamics in the natural canine host. Pathophysiological examination of host tissues revealed early adult-stage worms elicited minimal inflammation. However, with chronicity, mild pulmonary hemosiderin accumulation was observed. …

Constitutional Interpretation As Problem Solving: How The Modalities Work, Jack M. Balkin Jan 2026

Constitutional Interpretation As Problem Solving: How The Modalities Work, Jack M. Balkin

Texas A&M Law Review

The standard forms of constitutional argument—the modalities—are central to one of the most important approaches to constitutional interpretation: constitutional pluralism. Both originalists and non-originalists use the modalities. This Essay explains how they work. The modalities of constitutional argument are shared cultural tools for thinking about the Constitution, analyzing legal problems, and formulating arguments to resolve them. Constitutional interpretation is a kind of problem solving, and the modalities are our legal culture’s toolkit for analyzing and solving constitutional problems.

Our use of the modalities presumes that at any point in time, some arguments are better than others. This assumption is central …
