BACKGROUND: Respiratory viral infections by SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and B viruses, and RSV overlap in disease signs and symptomology, but differ in treatment modality. Nasal swab specimens have been shown to be an effective alternative specimen type for SARS-CoV-2 detection.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the performance of the Panther Fusion® SARS-CoV-2/Flu A/B/RSV assay in anterior nasal swab specimens (self- or healthcare professional [HCP]-) collected in either viral/universal (VTM/UTM) transport media or the Hologic® RespDirect® collection kit (RespDirect swab in enhanced specimen transport media [eSTM]).

STUDY DESIGN: A multicenter study was conducted from October 2022 to March 2024. A total of …

Ubiquitin E3 ligases play crucial roles in the DNA damage response (DDR) by modulating the turnover, localization, activation, and interactions of DDR and DNA replication proteins. We performed a CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screen focused on ubiquitin E3 ligases and related proteins with the DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor camptothecin. This led us to establish that MAEA, a core subunit of the CTLH E3 ligase complex, is a critical regulator of homologous recombination and the replication stress response. In tandem, we identified eight patients with variants in MAEA who present with a neurodevelopmental disorder that we term DIADEM (Developmental delay and Intellectual disability …

• ALCAPA is a rare congenital heart defect seen in about one in 300,000 live births. • ALCARPA is an even rarer subset of ALCAPA with the LCA originating from the RPA. • Few cases report ALCARPA associated with coarctation of the aorta. • Coarctation and VSD may cause PH with antegrade LCA flow. • These defects are hard to diagnose and require coronary imaging before surgery.

The Influence Of Preoperative Bowel Preparation On Surgical Site Infection In Pediatric Colorectal Surgery., Katlyn G. Mckay, Naomi-Liza Denning, Rebecca M. Rentea, Eunice Y. Huang Feb 2026

The Influence Of Preoperative Bowel Preparation On Surgical Site Infection In Pediatric Colorectal Surgery., Katlyn G. Mckay, Naomi-Liza Denning, Rebecca M. Rentea, Eunice Y. Huang

Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers

Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common nosocomial infections that occur in pediatric patients in the United States, with colorectal procedures consistently demonstrating the highest rates of SSI. Strategies to reduce SSI in colorectal surgery include standardized perioperative colorectal care bundles, which commonly incorporate preoperative bowel preparation. Robust adult literature exists supporting the use of mechanical bowel preparation in combination with oral antibiotics to mitigate SSI; however, pediatric evidence remains less definitive. Current pediatric literature shows heterogeneity of bowel preparation use amongst surgeons, with existing literature consisting primarily of small retrospective studies. A well-designed pediatric randomized controlled …

Female Ceos And Esg Visual Expressions, Ziming Guo, Beng Wee Goh, Dan Li, Yuan Wang Feb 2026

Female Ceos And Esg Visual Expressions, Ziming Guo, Beng Wee Goh, Dan Li, Yuan Wang

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

Prior studies have shown that women possess unique personality traits that cause them to communicate differently than men do. Hence, we investigate whether the presence of female CEOs affects the use of visual expressions in a firm’s ESG report (“ESG visual expressions”). Using detailed disclosure data from ESG reports in China, we find that firms with female CEOs use more ESG visual expressions. This result is stronger when the firm prioritizes ESG performance, when the female CEO is more powerful, and when there are more women on the top management team. ESG visual expressions are also positively associated with the …

Prevalence And Risk Factors For Laparoscopic Managed Ectopic Pregnancies At A Tertiary Referral Hospital - A 10-Year Synopsis: A Cross Sectional Study, Steve Mutiso, Eric Mugambi Feb 2026

Prevalence And Risk Factors For Laparoscopic Managed Ectopic Pregnancies At A Tertiary Referral Hospital - A 10-Year Synopsis: A Cross Sectional Study, Steve Mutiso, Eric Mugambi

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa

Background Ectopic pregnancies (EP) are a common pregnancy associated complication. They are associated with significant morbidity, and rarely mortality, if not managed properly. EP have a myriad of predisposing factors that help identify patients at risk and facilitate early diagnosis and intervention. We set out to conduct an audit of EP managed surgically at our hospital for a 10-year period and discern the incidence, prevalence and risk factors of their occurrence.

Methods This study was designed as a Retrospective Clinical Audit based at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). Study population was all women admitted to AKUH with a diagnosis …

The National Security Internet, Anupam Chander

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

In response to widespread foreign surveillance and growing geopolitical distrust, governments are erecting a national security internet. Pioneered by China, national firewalls have gone global. But where firewalls sought to keep information out, they now seek to keep data in. Governments keen to avoid their citizens’ data from falling into foreign hands demand not only that personal data be stored on local servers, but also require that it be stored on local servers by local companies—what this Article calls “data localization squared.” Enforcing this demand requires a new mechanism of transnational control: immunity from foreign jurisdiction. Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, …

Misjudging A Reasonable Jury: Evidence That Courts Dismiss Meritorious Harassment Claims, Elizabeth C. Tippett, Jamillah Bowman Williams Feb 2026

Misjudging A Reasonable Jury: Evidence That Courts Dismiss Meritorious Harassment Claims, Elizabeth C. Tippett, Jamillah Bowman Williams

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

Courts assessing summary judgment motions in Title VII harassment claims commonly grant the motion on the basis that the alleged harassment is insufficiently “severe or pervasive” to meet the legal standard. This mixed-methods study empirically tests whether there is a gap between how judges and potential jurors assess the same set of facts on the severe or pervasive element of a Title VII harassment claim. We presented study participants with facts from 80 federal harassment cases. In each case, the defendant employer moved to dismiss the case, arguing that no reasonable jury would find the alleged harassment sufficiently severe or …

Exploring Public Opinions On Mining Governance And Preferences For Interventions To Enhance Battery Mineral Access, Mahelet G. Fikru, Sreeja Koppera, Nhien Nguyen

Economics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Based on an online survey of 1200 individuals, we examine support for new mining projects in the United States, opinions on mining governance, and preferences for various strategies to access battery minerals. We find support for domestic mining more so at the national (54 % support) than local level (32 % support), with a strong emphasis on environmental protection and multi-level governance. Respondents generally support government intervention to secure access to battery minerals, with over half agreeing with subsidizing electric vehicle (EV) producers and consumers to prioritize the use of domestic minerals in EV batteries. However, there is measurable opposition …
